Phoenix Rising follows the continuing adventures of David Bastien and his wife Linda after they've run away from her father's Wyoming ranch and try to find their way in a world racing toward war.

David remains haunted by his past while trying to prove worthy of Linda's love. But Linda senses the distance and is by turns supportive and frustrated that she cannot seem to breach the walls he's built around himself. While I didn't like Linda any better in this book than I did in the first, her emotional neediness and mood swings are more readily justified in this story than they were in the previous story.

I'll be honest: I only read this story to witness the ultimate reunion of the Bastien family. The strength of this book is in that reunion is as emotionally wrenching as one might imagine it'd be in real life. The characters are broken in their own ways and must come to terms with who they've become in the years since David's kidnapping. While there are ridiculous melodramatic touches - the scene with Collette comes to mind - mostly, you feel for the characters and want to see the happy ending achieved.

It's a testament to Mackey's skill as a storyteller that the story overcomes the writing and poor editing. I can only imagine how much better Mackey's stories will be as she continues to develop as a writer.

Annette Mackey. 2nd in series
Class Collision (Phoenix Rising).
Following on from the first book Linda and David have run away from the farm that Linda's dad owned. They get on the train to Salt Lake City and get married, this was when linda found out her husbands true age and she was non to happy to discover he was actually younger than she was. They found out that Boeing were hiring labour so they boarded a train and headed to Seattle, here David managed to get employment and was able to rent accommodation as well. After there initial struggle they manage to settle in with Linda also earning money doing laundry. Linda then discovers she is pregnant and gives birth to a boy named Logan , David also graduates and everything seems to be fine, that is until the USA get involved in the 2nd world war.
He starts his service at Pearl Harbour as an engineer on an aircraft carrier, after coming under heavy enemy attacks he witnesses some very traumatic scenes, he then decides he wants to train to become a fighter pilot. After flying a few sorties he has to crash land his plane, and he ends up being hospitalised then sent home.
After his coming home he then decides to find his real family again, this never went to plan either.
This book is a fantastic read and well worthy of 5 stars.

I LOVED this book and I was up till the wee hours because I became so wrapped up in the story line. I felt a wide range of emotion during this masterpiece story. I love books that cause me to ponder new ideas and ways of doing things and this book certainly did this. I felt there were a lot of hidden messages in this book that I didn't want to miss.

This book truly addressed any unanswered questions I might have and I couldn't ask for a better ending. A wonderful job, Ms. Mackey, I can't wait till you write another book, but please make it soon!

This book is even better than her first one. I really like the way this author writes. After reading the first one, I could't wait to get to this one and I could not put it down. It was a tear jerker and I cried so hard all the way through. The ending is happy which I love and the bad guys get theirs. Everything is wrapped up nice and neat and I cried happy tears at the ending. This author needs to write more books. I would read anything she writes.

This entertaining book was fun and uplifting without being vapid. I love how she took the teenage characters from her first book and brought them through a decent chunk of adulthood before finding a resolution to the story. I felt like I really got to know them and liked them and routed for them to have a happy ending.

Totally awesome conclusion to the first book. Fabulous series. I got so wrapped up in the characters that I was a little sad when it was all over and done. This is honestly one of the best series I've read this year.
