Dr. Hawkins entered the field of medicine to alleviate human pain and distress, and his work as a physician was pioneering. As Medical Director of the North Nassau Mental Health Center (1956–1980) and Director of Research at Brunswick Hospital (1968–1979) on Long Island, his clinic was the largest practice in the United States, including a suite of twenty–five offices, two thousand outpatients, and several research laboratories. His clinical breakthroughs brought appearances on The Today Show, The Barbara Walters Show and The Mcneil/Leher News Hour. In the 1970s, he co–founded several psychiatric organizations, including the Editorial Board of the Journal of Schizophrenia and the Attitudinal Healing Center in New York.
Many awards followed, such as The Huxley Award for the "Inestimable Contribution to the Alleviation of Human Suffering," Physicians Recognition Award by the American Medical Association, 50–Year Distinguished Life Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association, the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame, and a nomination for the prestigious Templeton Prize that honors progress in Science and Religion. In 1995, in a ceremony officiated by the H.H. Prince Valdemar of Schaumburg–Lippe at the San Anselmo Theological Seminary, he became a knight of the Sovereign Order of the Hospitaliers of St. John of Jerusalem (founded in 1077) in recognition of his contributions to humanity.
I have read several of David Hawkins books. These summaries are a great thing to read every day because no matter how in lightened we may think we are we need to keep the focus on A higher perspective. along with a course in miracles and unity teachings I try to keep myself moving forward
This is a book it seems for the "Initiate" into Transcendence or Enlightenment, to be used in his mind as a 'measuring stick' starting out with 'simpler concepts' evolving with depth and meaning further into the back of the text. Bearing in mind, Hawkins developed a 'scale' which many find to be a bit presumptuous, to put into numbers the level of the most gifted Sages and Intellectuals who have achieved Enlightenment...although there is no way to validate the scale. The Paradox is that an Enlightened individual would be able to see through this. Perhaps he wrote most of his books under the condition referred to as "Spiritual Pride" , which defeats the entire purpose of Enlightenment, Transcendence, or in simple terms "waking up'...as Jesus puts it. Hawkins never seems to get to speaking of the whole point in Waking Hope, at least not directly as few authors do other than in more religious texts which most readers are unlikely to pick up in the first place, but INDEED...the entire point of Enlightenment since 70AD has been to receive the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth and Wisdom, The Holy Spirit for Inner healing of body and mind, and namely, the soul. Regardless, it is an interesting book to read, put down..pick ti up and read again later over a period of time. In short, it cannot be a learning tool for anything other than that purpose, otherwise one would be putting the cart before the horse..as in all books related to such topics, the More Honest one is with ones self, the more effective the tool will be.
Too much of an emphasis of forfeiting your ego for God. What about dissolving your ego to free yourself from the confines of the ego? Free your mind. God seems irrelevant to the subject, but it would depend on what one classifies as God. I do agree with him that humility is essential for enlightenment.
This is an amazing book. One of the things I really like about it is that it has quotes from a couple of Dr. Hawkins previous books such as Eye of the I, Power Vs. Force + more, and the quotes make it easier to understand his concepts. I use this in our study group to pass around and discuss the quotes. Very nicely written, love it!
Dr. David R. Hawkins has somehow managed to put into words the ineffable direct experience of the falling away of all obstacles to Self-realization. The final surrendering to God's grace. The last step belongs to no one but God alone, and Dr. Hawkins has conveyed this magnificently. A book of astoundingly clear truth and profound beauty, going beyond mind, beyond words, to reach the heart of the sincere seeker and lover of God.✨️🤍🕊✨️

Although I found many things to enjoy learning in this book, I found it hard to read. It seemed too broken up into single thoughts, not joined together. Still it was worth the read.
The title of this pocket clearly identifies its content. It is Concise, no wasting of time with word play here. Dr Hawkins' humour is here as well, embedded in the absolute honesty of these quotes, making one laugh while saying to ones own lower self , "hell we knew that didn't we".
One example "the power of Truth itself is a quality of Divine Love that, in its infinite mercy, dissolves positionalities back into the Reality of the Self".
Not my style, mainly because it fails to take into account the necessity of the ego in establishing a relationship with the Self. Who does the seeing, listening, living unless it is our ego? Jung and Hawkins see from differing points of view, I'm in agreement with Jung.
A brief, handy summary of David's work. It's simply the brevity of this book that has caused me to give it only 3 stars; I wouldn't recommend this for those unfamiliar with David's ideas.
