Rate this book
TOME 3

I think this is my current favorite currently running comic series.

Yup. That means I like it better than Saga. That's not an easy thing to say. But I said it.

If this series gets left behind or abandoned, it's going to break my heart like Firefly.

If you aren't reading it yet, you really should. If you've already started, don't you think it's time for a re-read?

ABSOLUTELY worth your time.

Might be especially appealing for those of you who like: Sherlock Holmes. Faerie tales. Urban Fantasy. Stories about stories. Puppies. Amazing characterization. Witty banter. Cleverness. Wit. Love. Good things.

You might want to avoid it if: You are a stupid person who hates good things and likes making bad decisions.

Well if I have read the first two you just know the third will soon follow and here it is. For me it feels like there an escalation - not sure if that is just me or not since although we are seeing further development of characters (and the introduction of a new one or two) there is a definitely the start of a story arc forming - just annoying that there is no sign of the continuation although there are hints that the project is still live with more to come - I for one cannot wait

And so we move on to the third volume - well considering I read book 2 and 3 back to back (that is always the curse of comics and graphic novels you can race through them - which I am sure is the bane of the writers and artists since they put some much work in to each and every scene).

But what can I say - this book show the start of things coming together - you can see where the lines are being drawn and that the stakes are being increased (in this case getting nastier) so why so cryptic - well apart from the no spoilers rule.

Well for me the first two book set the characters - who they are, what they are and how they interact as not all is peace and harmony. Now you have the big players who have only now been hinted at, true they are moving in the wings but you can start to see how important they are even if you so not know entirely what role they play.

As I say these book follow a famous British cultural character - here we have Doctor Who or at least how I like to see it (come on you cannot have missed some of the in-jokes).

But there is more - you start to see the true malevolence brewing here and it is without mercy, the question is where will the story go - and considering Warren Ellis track record what carnage will follow.

an excellent continuation of the series, and a continuation of Warren Ellis' own iconography that appears throughout his stories. Injection really gives me Planetary vibes (always a good thing, that's his classic to me) with its avatars of pop fiction given new form, its interest in discovering the strangeness hidden in the world, and its abrupt but propulsive pacing. this story's particular metatextual protagonist is a direct take on the Doctor Who template, complete with Tardis, but The Doctor here is a young black woman who combines science with ancient magic. the mystery of this arc concerns a circle of stones that is also a gateway to the Cold House, a very bad place with very bad things eager to get out. Ellis' writing is at its sharpest yet in this series, and the art by Shalvey & Bellaire with its creepy, muted palette and photo-realistic character expressions is a perfect fit. I loved the instant friendship between the two female leads - is there romance on the horizon? I hope I find out soon; although this series has been on hiatus for over 3 years, Ellis has made recent noises that sound like he may be working on this again, finally.

bonus points for introducing me to the kinda shocking "Sheela na gig": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheela_...

I wish I could read anything Ellis without having the screaming fear he's never going to finish it. I quadruple wish it for this series, because it's seriously some of the best dark fantasy/sf/horror in comic book form I've read. It's just astonishingly good.

The delays between the issues of this are too long to enjoy it properly. Going to have to return to it at some point. I'm finding Image series are usually better that way

Like most Image books that only really release one story arc per year, Injection's a little hard to get back into after so long away. But within a few pages, it all comes flooding back and this insane techno-magical world that Ellis and Shalvey have created takes back over once again.

This arc feels a bit more self-contained, as the focus shifts to Brigid as she investigates a mysterious stone circle that may or may not be a way to the Other World. Of course, the Injection co-opts the investigation and it soon becomes a fight for her life, as always.

The Injection's development is subtle, and considering it's on like 1 page per story arc, it's amazing how fully formed it already feels. The characters that Ellis peppers through the book all have his brand of sardonic wit, but they all feel very individual; characters like Maria or Vivek would react totally different to how Brigid does, and the fact that we barely know these characters after 15 issues and yet this is so stark already is a testament to Ellis' masterful storytelling.

Of course, Declan Shalvey is no slouch either. His artwork takes leaps and bounds, and the last few issues suffused with electrical energy are a masterclass in both minimalist art and superb colouring (oh look, it's Jordie Bellaire again. There's a reason she won that Eisner.) because it's gorgeous.

I wish this came out more often, but I'm happy to wait if it's this good.

Tenhle díl je věnovaný Brigid Roth, člence bývalého týmu Injection, mladé, supertalentované hackerky (so nineties!

No a hlavní arci-padouch je samozřejmě... cherchez la femme.

Takže zbývající členové by si své plnotučné entrée zasloužili.

Brigid Roth goes to Cornwall to investigate a dead body found chained to a stone circle. After that things get weirder and deadlier very fast. I liked this story very much, the story has more body than most superhero stuff and I also like the artwork: very relaxing, sober with lots of empty spaces, not as frantic or crowded as most superhero stuff. And Bridget Roth is a one helluva kickass hacker.

Please let volume 4 hit the shelves asap.

Bien.

3.5*

Read the 3 volumes of injection one after the other only to find out that this isn't a trilogy but an unfinished series.
If I'd known that beforehand I wouldn't of bought these.

I'd love to see this series picked up again. I think there were supposed to be 2 more volumes, focusing on different team members.

This remain my favorite volume of Injection to date, but the final chapter fell a bit flat for me. I think Ellis did his best job to date in adding characterization to one of the main players, this time Brigid. I understand that her characterization might not work for everyone. For me, I enjoyed reading an investigation tale that featured a highly intelligent woman reviewing the facts, and to a degree reading the people involved, to come up with solutions to a fantastic problem.

This series' question might be not the Injection, but whether Ellis can continue to do volumes focusing on individual players while building to a satisfying conclusion.

This was somehow both the craziest and easiest to follow volume yet. Maybe not outright crazy, but the things happening in the world thanks to the Injection are getting crazier. Brigid is the star of this collection and we learn a lot more about her (to a point.) It also shows us a little of what Robin is up to and it ain't good news. He's still the wild card in all this and I really don't know where he's leading us, but that's probably why I enjoy Warren Ellis, I'm not smarter than the author so I get to be surprised.

Warren Ellis at his technomagic best.

A small group of gifted people take turns in the spotlight as they battle a malignant artificial intelligence obsessed with the supernatural that they've set loose upon the world. Last volume, Ellis riffed on Sherlock Holmes. This volume he riffs on Doctor Who, introducing a female Doctor and her companion before the show had a chance to the same.

This is a beautifully crafted mix of future shock versus the dark shadows of prehistory. I don't know anything else that takes threads of the modern age (technology, apps, the byzantine relationships of PFI enterprise and corporate government), threads them through the lens of the UK and juxtaposes them against centuries of tradition and folklore. Throw in a archetypes of modern British folk heroes (Dr Who, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond) and maybe a Merlin figure for spice, or maybe commentary on how we are creating our own folklore now to help us navigate the present.

(Describing it, I make it sound like madness, but it isn't. It's also something that can only be rooted in Britishness. It's uniquely British SF, which sometimes seems to be an endangered thing).

Like all good science-fiction, it is not about the future, but about the now: fucked up government that you don't trust; technology that makes all your certainties uncertain; and how that is a bubble thin layer over a deeper and darker past.

This island has history. Millennia of it. And this series knows it.

It's going to be hard to wait an entire whole year for another installment, especially since with 5 comics in each volume, they are not especially lengthy to begin with. But no matter! It's all somehow tying together, and each one so far I've liked more than the last. And where the last volume was referential to Sherlock Holmes, this one was intended as homage to Dr. Who, a show I still have not seen somehow.

Even if I didn't catch the Whovian references, I did notice a call back to The Atrocity Archives agency in it though--and the main plot--old druid stone circle re-activated through the power of lightning and human sacrifice--and hero, Brigid--are all strong enough to stand on their own. Meanwhile, the Injection has discovered trolling and online porn.

Just as good as every volume before it. This time we get a focus on Brigid as she handles her own case. Brilliant mix of technological and supernatural, even more so than the previous cases, as Ellis elaborates on the mechanics of how the Injection works. Also loved the dark humor and the Doctor Who references. And amazing work by the art team as well, especially Bellaire's coloring on issue 15. Looks like the plot is moving healthily along as we're getting more development on each and every character. Sucks to be caught up on this series, because I absolutely love it, and having to wait a year or more for another volume is gonna suck. 10/10 for this volume: again not much I can find wrong with it, it's developing at a very deliberate pace and Ellis seems to know exactly where he wants the plot to go. This is a potential masterpiece in the making.

This volume features Brigid, the hacker, as the primary protagonist. She has all this cool tech on her clothes, and an AI assistant, but everything she does bleeds the line between tech and magic. There’s an Injection event around a Stonehenge like mound and Maria dispatches Brigid out to take a look. You finally get a sense of what that Tardis-like chamber in Brigid’s lab can do, and there are other Doctor Who parallels, come to think of it. Not as fun as volume 2 and no appearances by Vivek or Sim. A lot of undefined magic systems & I’m a bit confused over what happened. But it’s stylish & sarcastic, which is what I want from Ellis.

I enjoyed vol. 2 of this series the best. I think for me personally, it ended (unintentionally) at a good point. I don’t think it would’ve held up for another few volumes or so. I know that this volume delves heavier into the Injection as a whole and gets the actual plot of the whole thing moving forward, but, I guess for me the whole “geniuses talk so ridiculously that it’s funny” mixed with folklore and sci-fi horror got a little old in this book. I do like that it was from Brigid’s POV this book, but, maybe it was me not finding her as interesting as Viv or something, that didn’t do it for me.

Lol, this one doesn't even have an ending. I'm going to give it 3 stars because it was entertaining, but it still has the same issues as the one that came before, and volume 2 was actually more interesting imo.

I get it now. We're supposed to read a glimpse into the life of these characters, one by one, until Apocalypse arrives and they all unite to fight it, or... something. It's a cool idea, poorly planned and poorly started.

Too bad it will remain unfinished, but I liked some stuff about it.
