An account of the ordeal of the ordinary soldier trekking the Veldt of South Africa. War is endless routine and monotony interspersed with infrequent intervals of terror and death, often brought by unseen snipers and unsuspected howitzers. Authentic and often remarkable, revealing an early war correspondent profession and it's risks- given counterpoint and resonance by modern horrors of conflict.
