No one has had more impact and influence on the craft of preaching in the last several decades than Fred Craddock. After his retirement from a distinguished teaching career, he became free to share his wisdom with a wider audience without the burdens of academic responsibilities. The lectures and workshops show an ever-expanding scholarship beyond that of his published books. This book has gathered the "best of the best" of these lectures/workshops and offers them to preachers and students of preaching for critical reflection and increased effectiveness.
Several of my pastor buds have recommended Fred Craddock for some good tips on preaching...one pastor in particular gave me this book as a beginning to experiencing this author/preacher--a good gift it was, as Craddock's love for storytelling fits well into how I have done public speaking --- From the publisher: No one has had more impact and influence on the craft of preaching in the last several decades than Fred Craddock. Inspiring, informative, valuable and at the same time entertaining.
This is an inspiring and at times moving book well worth reading. It is entertaining and enlightening. At the same time it is instructive book about preaching sermons.
I recommend it to both newcomers to sermons and those with sermon experience.
It's a decent book, but his method of storytelling is over the top folksy and disorienting. The point of his stories is to draw in...but then he pulls a, "now for something completely different". Maybe we can draw people in and have a point.
A wonderful book almost written from the past. A collection of thoughts on preparing and delivering sermons by the man who trained so many in the art. It is gentle and enlightening even to a person like me who does not deliver the weekly sermon.
Excellent book for pastors who preach regularly! I highly recommend this. It's Craddock at his best. One of the best storytellers and preachers in the land.
