Some of the hottest writers of gay erotica spin tales of Riding the Rails.
Trains are so romantic. The clock fades from your mind as the country spreads out before you. Forget catching up on your reading—you have scenery to inspire you and time for an innocent flirtation or two. Or ten. Maybe not so innocent and more than a flirtation.
It could be the guy in the cargo shorts across the aisle, sleeping with his legs just far enough apart. It could be the blond in the tight muscle shirt and baggy sweatpants heading for the bathroom. It could even be the handsome stranger sitting opposite you who chats you up and invites you to the dining car with yet another invitation in his eyes. This train will take you places you never dreamed of going.
Editor of the Lambda Literary Award finalists Tented: Gay Erotic Tales from Under the Big Top (Lethe Press 2010) and his short story collection Strawberries and Other Erotic Fruits (Lethe Press, 2012) as well as three volumes of gay erotica for Bold Strokes Books, Jerry L. Wheeler has appeared in many anthologies, including Law of Desire, Best Gay Romance 2010, Bears in the Wild, and I Like It Like That. His first novel, The Dead Book, is forthcoming from Lethe Press in the fall of 2013. Be sure to catch his book reviews on the web at Out in Print (www.outinprint.net).

This is how this anthology is introduced and the travel kept its promise, I enjoyed most of the stories. What prevails however is that I discovered Nathan Burgoine whose story really made a strong impression on me.
Introduction or the wolf-man that ate me near Chicago : ** Highland speeder – Jeff Mann : ** No Mincing Words – Rob Rosen : *** Elsewhen – ‘Nathan Burgoine : ***** Mount Olympus – Jeffrey Ricker : * Reunion on the rails – Hank Edwards : *** The blue train – Erastes : **** The train home – Rick R. Reed : ** Royal Service – Dale Chase : *** Resist me, please! – Daniel M. Jaffe : * Engine of repression – Gavin Atlas : ** Shadow mapping – JD Barton : *** Geronimo’s laughter – Joseph Baneth Allen : *** The Roundhouse men – Dusty Taylor : *** The Last Train – William Holden : ****
Full disclosure: I have a story in this collection, "Elsewhen." My husband considers it the best short fiction piece I've written, actually.
You always know you're in for a treat when Jerry L. Wheeler picks an anthology theme (and he always comes up with awesome themes). This collection was no exception, and I loved, loved, loved where people took the trains (outer space, historical, you name it...)
I find something intrinsically romantic about rail travel - especially, but not solely, steam train travel. I particularly enjoyed Jeff Mann's Highland Sleeper (I think Mr Mann has a definite affinity with the Highlands and Islands), Hank Edwards' Reunion on the Rails, Dale Chase's Royal Service, Jay Neal's One Night on the Twentieth Century and Dusty Taylor's The Roundhouse Men. 'Nathan Burgoine's Elsewhen is a touching tale and perhaps very apt for the upcoming cetenery of the First World War.
