More than ten years after his first bestselling book, The E-Myth, changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of small business owners, Michael Gerber椮trepreneur, author, and speaker extraordinaire楩res the next salvo in his highly successful E-Myth Revolution. Drawing on lessons learned from working with more than 15,000 small, medium-sized, and very large organisations, Gerber has discovered the truth behind why management doesn′t work and what to do about it. Unearthing the arbitrary origins of commonly held doctrines such as the omniscience of leader (Emperor) and the most widely embraced myth of all擨e E-Myth Manager offers a fresh, provocative alternative to management as we know it. It explores why every manager must take charge of his own life, reconcile his own personal vision with that of the organisation, and develop an entrepreneurial mind-set to achieve true success.
Not sure about this one. Didn't really enjoy the tone. Felt there was a lot of padding, but the key ideas wouldn't fill up a book and thus make sales...
7 steps in becoming an Emyth manager: primary aim, strategic objective, then the stategies: financial, organizational, management, people and marketing.
This author puts down the constant siege of management trends built on buzzwords and oversimplified concepts. Then he proceeds to put forth his own version of the same. However, he does rely more on principle and makes some interesting points on the way. Foremost among them is that a good manager starts with asking the question "What do I want?" The wisdom behind this is derived from his original "e-myth" that successful companies are not based on an entrepeneurial culture but instead on one person's vision. Hence, a good manager should be working as the emporer of their own vision. This does not necessitate owning a separate business as long as the employment relationship allows for molding of a role into that which satisfies the vision of the manager. According to Gerber, each person must recognize and affect how much they concentrate on each vital role: emporer, manager, and technician. Two other important steps (among several put forth) are creating a marketing and financial plan. The financial plan should put every employee in touch with the type of decision making one makes with real budgets and money. It was also interesting to see yet another work by a local author, complete with references to Marin General, Corte Madera, Sonoma, and Petaluma.
THIS IS A BOOK FOR: 1. ANYONE WHO WANT GO SOMEWHERE IN BUSINESS LIFE 2. SOMEONE WHO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN WHAT HE'S SEEING 3. SOMEONE WHO WANT TO CHANGE HIS RESULT AND IS READY TO HEAR THE TRUTH 4. SOMEONE WITH A LARGE HEART FOR GROWTH. 5. SOMEONE WHO WANT TO KNOW HOW DEAL WITH FEAR, FAITH AND GREED. YOU CAN BE THE EMPEROR OF YOUR LIFE. YOU CAN CHANGE THE NATURE OF YOUR WORK BY CHANGING YOUR OWN NATURE - YOUR MINDSET. ITS A MUST READ IF YOU ARE HUNGER FOR THE NEXT LEVEL.
Please see the review for The E-Myth. Again, you would do well to consider the concepts in the books by this author. These are simple to understand, but can be very difficult to implement!
The original E-Myth was fantastic. Maybe this version just wasn't my cup of tea. Found it to be very lengthy. I was 50 pages in and I felt like everything that was said could have been done in 3-4 pages. I felt my mind drifting, thinking - Get on with it. I looked ahead several chapters to make sure I wasn't just being impatient and didn't see a lot more interesting content in the near future.
Since I really enjoyed the original E-Myth, I may pick this up again to give it another try. If so, I'll change my review.
A good book for helping your People be happier and more productive.
I finished reading this book while working in Luoyang, China. Continuously writing down questions and situations to address, once back in the office again.
Expect that follow-up to be a long, yet rewarding (and challenging process).
Michael Gerber's teachings are now how I run my life, to help me and those around me to be more productive.
Very insightful and not a dull read since it’s written like a dialogue of teaching someone(Jack). Lots of great tips. Will be reviewing the highlights I marked. One of the core learnings is that to become a good manager, one needs to put themselves in owner’s shoes and see the org as a whole. You need to have some power to make change at workplace.
Way to esoteric and abstract. I really enjoyed the E-Myth and E-Myth Revisited. Gerber misses the mark on this one. Trying to equate a manager with being an entrepreneur just doesn't work.
The E-Myth Manager... a clear roadmap on how to transform your management team into an inspired, motivated and empowered group of intra-preneurs.
Indeed, if you want your organization to leap-frog towards demonstrable, measurable results, profits and joy - train and coach them through these watershed concepts and principles!
I've facilitated this course with one of my client's executive management teams, and the results have been extraordinary within a very short time!
I find the concept of the emperor, the manager and the technician handy... That at any time your focus is either on The Enterprise (Vision) The Business (Processes) or The Practice (Execution).
How to keep the managers and owners of a company always working together and building the best company together. One of the best books I read and I think every manager should read it.
So I read this after I read E-myth revisited. I think this was also an excellent book. It's about becoming a motivated manager and helping other become motivated. Again, I think he is spot on.
