Wills often contain surprises. This one especially so.
Reggie and Enton Bookman have just inherited their grandfather's bookshop. The place is profitable, well-loved by the community, and situated in a lively shopping district.
But the Bookman brothers want nothing to do with it. After all, who in the world would want to waste their time around books when they could sell the place, pocket a few million, and experience VIP airport lounges and first-class flights?
With such a hot property, selling it should be easy, right?
Not when every scheme the brothers come up with to rid themselves of the shop hits obstacle after obstacle.
And the more time Enton spends in the shop, the more he starts to believe it's not just bad luck thwarting their efforts.
If you believe in the magic of books and enjoy a bit of humor with your magical realism, you'll love the exploits of the Bookman brothers.
THE RAMBLING BIO AND OFFER OF FREE STUFF Many moons ago I was a scientist in a neuroscience lab where I got to play with brains and illegal drugs. Now, I take wickedly strong tea and turn it into comic fantasy whodunits full of mythical misfits and magical mishaps that I hope give you a giggle.
When I’m not creating worlds or killing off characters, I can be found gardening, planning my next travel adventure, concocting some sort of mess in the kitchen, or working as an unpaid servant to three cats and a guinea pig.

THE QUICK AS YOU CAN STORY BEHIND MY BOOKS... My fascination for myths, history, and how they interweave inspired my two historical fantasy series, The Osteria Chronicles and my second series, Domna (you can grab your free series starters for those HERE and HERE).
But all those ancient myths and angst-ridden heroes got a bit too serious for someone with a strange sense of humor and odd way of looking at the world.
So, while sitting at my grandmother’s funeral, my brain came up with an idea for a contemporary fantasy trilogy that’s filled with magic, mystery, snarky humor, and the dead who just won’t stay dead. That idea turned into The Cassie Black Trilogy, which has turned into a fan favorite.
Then, because writer brains are weird, a simple elephant story I had in mind somehow morphed into a "hilarious" cozy fantasy series featuring a detecting dragon. So, if you like comic fantasy whodunits that mix in laughs with murderous mayhem, mythical beasts, and a staggering variety of omelets, you’ll want to check out my Circus of Unusual Creatures mysteries!

I loved this novella. I'd had so many questions about Sebastian after reading the Cassie Black series and this one answered them all. Great characters and an intriguing plot line, it was pure pleasure to read it.
Everyone loves a bookstore? Well, there might be a few here and there that don’t want to wander among the bound volumes sitting in rows with fascinating stories to tell. For some, bookstores are gold mines of wonder, happiness and joy. A treasure chest of information waiting to be learned or just plain perused. Well, the Bookman brothers; yes, that’s their name, have inherited a bookstore from their grandfather. This bookstore is very profitable and is a treasure to the surrounding community. People just love coming to this store to get books.
Reggie and Enton Bookman see this inheritance as a waste of time for them. But, selling the place would give them a whole lot of cash to do a whole lot of things like taking a trip to France, first class and treaded like VIPs. But, there are some stipulations in this inheritance and their efforts to side-step or cleverly snick around the clauses and conditions only brings them into a head on encounter with the magic of books, who will definitely have the last say or laugh in this whole settlement thing.
This is a fun little tale of the “magic of books” and how it can change your life and the lives of those around you. This is a funny and thought provoking read.

Inheriting a bookstore wasn’t their idea of a great inheritance but the brothers were going to sell it and make a profit. Unfortunately that’s not happening. When they’ve gone so far into debt and think it can’t get worse, it does. How will they fare? Learning that money isn’t everything they discover what a rare opportunity their grandfather has gifted them and all the magical books they could ever want. Now they will get their real reward. A joy to read. I loved it.
I really enjoyed this short read. Don’t want to give away any spoilers, so just the obvious bookstore setting with unusual happenings. Having worked in a bookstore and libraries when I was younger, I can confirm that books are magical as is this little story.
Pleasant, lightweight but entertaining - a pair of philistine brothers inherit a bookshop, which they try to close down, but they end up changing instead.
A light novella about twins inheriting a bookstore from their grandfather that never runs out of books. Reggie is determined to sell the property, but the will stipulates that all the books must be sold.
Quieter Enton notice that something is strange about this place, and though he also wants to be rich, he begins to see how important the bookstore is to so many customers.
Add in Sebastian, and his little sister with her wagon of books, and the fun fight to empty the store is on. While the tally goes up and down on the inventory, Enton is drawn to a picture of himself and Reggie as kids playing at the store.
He finds their favourite books in the attic, and it reminds Reggie of his anger when their parents died in an accident and he associated the store with this terrible event. It also reminds him of the love of reading and being with his brother, and the magic the store seems to have for all the customers.
All their woes are magically worked through, and keeping their store gives them all they could have wished for in the first place.
