As someone with a close relative with BPD, I found this book incredibly useful and found the strategies relevant. The language is very user-friendly and jargon free, making it easier to understand the different concepts. The author has done well to provide guidance on how to apply each of the skills, in addition to some helpful tips on how to develop some healthy life choices. I also really liked how within the worksheet section, readers are referred back to the relevant skills to support them.
I appreciated that, from the initial pages, there was a big focus around readers safety when reading the book, due to potentially triggering material, tips on how to develop a safety within our own space, as well as trigger warnings throughout the book when progressing onto sensitive material.
Overall, a great book which I recommend to anyone who has had experience with BPD.

Although I don't have any client or know anyone with BPD, I truly appreciate how this book made it easy for me to understand how an individual with BPD might be struggling. I already have some idea about DBT from my graduate studies, but reading through the text allowed me gain a deeper understanding of how DBT skills can be very helpful. I also like how the author explained the concepts because this tells me that even though my clients aren't diagnosed with BPD, they could still benefit from the techniques of this approach.

As a practicing school counselor, I was able to see some areas that my clients can be helped with using DBT. Emotion regulation is one, especially now that I always here my clients that they are having difficulty when it comes to managing their emotions.

Kudos to Mr. Huang for writing a very helpful book to us mental health professionals.

Having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder 20+ years ago, I became intrigued with the way the mind works, specifically with the differences/similarities between BPD and BD. Barret Huang does a brilliant job explaining the two disorders and how DBT can help. He eloquently conveys the message that there IS hope for those of us currently struggling with mental illness that we can live a full and happy life if we find and utilize the best available treatment like DBT. My biggest takeaway is the heartfelt sincerity with which he writes, exuding a true desire to help people. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed or exhibits symptoms of BPD, this is a must read.

Very informative and offers good help

Speaking as someone WITHOUT BPD or knows anyone with it, I still found this book very informative. It was plainly explained with real world examples that helped give this mental issue a face to empathize with and help the reader be able to better identify symptoms and causes. The worksheets and exercises were very easy to understand and follow. I would be very interested to see if there is any research into positive religious experiences that utilize these methods for treatment. Perhaps a follow on book. Overall, even if you don't suffer from BPD, it's still an informative read worth your time.

"DBT for BPD by Barrett Huang is a powerful and accessible guide that turns complex emotional struggles into manageable, real-life tools. What I love most about this book is how practical it is — the explanations are clear, the techniques are grounded, and you can apply them immediately in your daily life. Whether you're struggling with intense emotions, relationship conflicts, or self-destructive patterns, this book doesn't just explain why things happen — it shows you how to respond differently. A must-read for anyone wanting to build emotional resilience with DBT skills, without feeling overwhelmed by theory."

I'll have to admit, this book blew me away totally! It's such a WOW and I didn't expect the contents to be so strong like this. It's the most special nonfiction I've read that's related to psychology. Most self-help book are kinda cliche and boring even but this book really have readers engrossed in it, not just for the fact that it's really interesting and down-to-earth but for the fact it actually contains stuffs you need to do and stuffs you can actually do to help yourself and your mental health without waiting for anyone.

This was a book that I couldn't stop talking about with my husband who has a friend with BPD. All of the stories of the authors own experiences along with others made me want to keep reading and not put it down. I could feel the authors emotions as he shared about his parents and himself. It made me feel like I was right there. It gave wonderful explanation on BPD and the workbook pages was a huge highlight. I couldn't recommend this enough.

I was diagnosed with BPD 3 years ago. I have attended private DBT group sessions and since completing and leaving the groups I have been looking for appropriate resources that continue to assist me in my mental health journey. This workbook is an extremely valuable resource. It uses language that is easy to understand and follow, it delves deeply into the Do’s and Dont's when it comes to self-treatment, and is perfect for anyone to read; those with BPD or without.

This was a good workbook that is appropriate for those who are new or already acquainted with DBT. The author uses layman’s terms and makes it easy to understand and practice the skills. Self-help worksheets are simple and thorough, and the author backs up claims with primary source reference materials.

This is a well written introduction to both Borderline Personality Disorder and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. While you do not need a diagnosis of BPD to benefit from DBT, this book presents DBT in the context of BPD. The content is accessible and there are plenty of worksheets to go through to get yourself started.
