Westfall U #7

Not a Player

Liliana

Hooking up with an annoyingly handsome stranger on vacation isn't the best idea, but I could use a little bit of careless fun before my fresh start.

We said no last names, no strings. With law school on the line, it’s all I can offer. I just don’t expect everything to feel so easy— or so right. Too bad I’ll never see him again.

Little did I know that hockey star Logan Russo is also attending Westfall U. Now I can’t escape him… or his sexy silver eyes.

He may not be a player… but he’s still off-limits.

Logan

My entire life has been focused on my hockey career. All work— no play. Zero distractions, with no exceptions. Until I sit next to Liliana on a flight to paradise.

Her walls are up, and I can respect that, relate even. But I’ll tear them down, one by one, if that’s what it takes for her to let me in.

Our tropical fling only left me wanting more. I can’t stop myself from fantasizing about the guarded beauty falling apart in my arms. Now I’m breaking the rules to play by hers.

Because Liliana Ramirez isn’t just my team's PR person, she’s my coach’s daughter.

Not A Player is the 7th and final book in the Westfall U series by R.C. Stephens and it's a virgin hero story with the all around good guy Logan Russo.

I've had a lot of fun reading this new adult/hockey romance series over the last year and a half or so since the very first book came out and honestly I'm sad that it's time to move on. I have been so excited for Logan's story since first meeting him in his brother Declan's book (Callous Player #3) and getting more snippets of him in some of the following stories. With Logan's book being the last of the series I had such high hopes for all that it could be- but unfortunately for me the story fell a little flat.

3.5 ⭐

Logan isn't your typical jock- he is driven in both his sport and his academics, he isn't really the party type of guy and much to all the puck bunnies dismay he is not the kind of guy that participates in meaningless hook-ups. That is until he meets Lili, a sassy, somewhat prickly and fiesty girl, on his trip to Hawaii for his brother's wedding. It's almost like a little bit of an enemies to lovers kind of thing- only it's not that Logan is really the enemy but more like all men in general are to her. But when Logan's charm and all around nice guy personality get her to lower her walls she makes an exception with just one rule- no personal information. Only that decision comes back to haunt them a few weeks later when they not only find themselves at the same university but find out that Lili is the daughter of the guy that holds most of the cards to Logan getting drafted in the NHL- his coach.

Now don't get me wrong- I like this story, Logan is like star quality book boyfriend material and Lili's journey over the course of the story where she starts to heal the wounds on her heart from her last relationship while also discovering herself is fantastic. I just personally have a hard time wrapping my brain around the initial start of their "relationship" and the pace of some of the story that follows. Logan is intrigued by Lili because she doesn't fawn all over him and genuinely seems to despise him despite just having met, yet somehow he gets on her good graces enough that the idea of a little vacation fling is born. My issue with that is that Logan is a virgin- with the way that he grew up and his own emotional issues toward sex and relationships he never wanted to participate in the hook-up culture that a lot of jocks are known for. So sure he is intrigued by Lili and something about her draws him in but it still felt out of character for just that to prompt him into sleeping with her, especially when knowing that she didn't want to share any personal information and that their time together was supposed to be secluded to their time in Hawaii.

I enjoyed the surprise in their reunion, the tensions and emotions that flared when they were trying to keep their distance and then when that proved to be a fail- keep things platonic. And who doesn't love the suspense of sneaking around- but the sentiment of Lili wanting time on her own to recover her heart and stop being a disappointment combined with how her relationship with Logan could derail his entire career just circulating over and over just gave me this repetitious feeling like I was reading the same chapters without actually getting anywhere. The last few chapters made up for some of that- it moves at a quicker pace when everything hits the fan and the gravity of things becomes really real. I definitely liked Lili a lot more toward the end of the story than I did at the start and well Logan never stopped being all kinds of perfect. So while they didn't captivate me as much as some of the other couples in the Westfall U series I still love these two and can't wait to see what R.C. Stephens brings us next!

The perfect ending to the Westfall U series.

Quick Synopsis:

While in Hawaii for Declan and Poppys' wedding, Logan runs into Lili, the snarky, sassy girl seated next to him on the plane ride. Lili is nursing a broken heart and trying to recover from being cheated on. The two decide to have fun together and not share anything personal about one another so they can walk away after the trip. Logan falls hard, but Lili leaves with a note and no way to connect. When they return to school, Logan finds out Lili is his coach's daughter and new team PR rep making her off-limits.

I loved the wedding and having the Westfall U crew together again. But mostly, I was soooo excited for more of Logan! We've gotten pieces of Logan throughout the series, and I was so happy to finally get his story and figure him out. He was full of surprises. His dedication to hockey and school meant he wasn't your typical jock.

✨️Never had a girlfriend.
✨️Never been drunk.
✨️Virgin.

"𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒙 𝒐𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅?"
"𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝑳𝒊𝒍𝒊."

When Lili says she can't ruin his future, he is there for her as her friend. Her brings her soup when shes sick and they meet for coffee. Logan and Lili try to stay away from one another, but their chemistry and attraction are undeniable. I love how honest Logan is and doesn't shy away from his feelings for Lili.

"𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒃𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒊𝒅. 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒅𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕. 𝑨𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕, 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒖𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒆 𝒌𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒃 𝒊𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒊, 𝑰 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒆."

I loved how they helped heal one another. Logan didn't have a stable family, he's only ever had Declan, and Lili was heartbroken and shattered.

"𝑯𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏. 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏. They get their HEV and it's the perfect ending to a great series! 💕🫶

A reverse virgin, sports romance that begins with Logan catching a flight to his brother’s wedding in Hawaii only to find himself seated next to sister Alessa and Lili. Alessa is great company but Lili not so much. She recently caught her boyfriend of three years cheating on her with her friend and she’s taking her heartbreak out on all men and Logan is a sitting target. That is until she’s persuaded that a holiday fling with no strings might be just what she needs. At the end they’ll both go their separate way. Great in theory until she transfers to a new university and finds Logan is a star of the ice hockey team her father coaches.

Not A Player was a relatively slow burner…. well after the initial Hawaiian hook up before picking up pace again towards the end. I loved the characters. Logan was so sweet and definitely the type of man every parent dreams their daughter will bring home. I did find Lili a bit of a b!tch to begin with but she slowly started to grow on me as the friendship between her and Logan deepened before descending into a secret relationship with lots of sneaking around. And apart from Lili moping over her ex this was a relatively angst free romance.

I haven’t read any of the previous books in the Westfall U series but I don’t feel that affected my enjoyment of Not A Player.

Logan and Liliana’s story is much more than just a holiday fling. An unusual meet cute is the starting point to this forbidden sports romance. This story has a little bit of everything. Family drama, secrets, and chemistry. I’ve enjoyed watching Logan grow up in this series. Life dealt him a challenging hand, but instead of taking the easy way out he decided to persevere. A sweet and enjoyable read.

Mi ripeto … cosa riuscirà ancora a inventarsi l’autrice? Scopriamolo insieme.

OPINION: 4.5/5 Me super gusto! Después de varios libros Mehhhh, este me hizo volver a querer leer mas libros. Una historia bien contada, que no puedes dejar de leer, con mucho dialogo que ¡no te deja dormir! Super recomendada. Spicy 3/5.

Hockey romance

I enjoyed reading this story. It was a nice easy read, not too much drama, a bit emotional but lots of hot sexy scenes. I didn’t realise this was the last in the series but I go back and read more. I liked the characters, the chemistry was good. The storyline was good. Logan was a nice guy, levelheaded, determined to give hockey his all. He had plans for his future and was so close to reaching his goal. Liliana despite the first impression was also nice. She’d been betrayed by her boyfriend and her group of friends and was devastated. Determined not to let anyone get close. She also had a plan and although she’d been hurt previously, Logan found his way into her heart.

loved it

Very cute story!! You never know when you will find the right person. God has a way of letting you know sometimes and it is a wonderful surprise. There were a few bumps along the way, but they made it work, and taught some others along the way about what loving someone means!!

I have been waiting for Logan's story since his short appearance on Declan's book and it sure did not disappoint. Both Logan and Lily have been through a lot and don't trust easily. But their chance encounter changed the trajectory of their whole future.

My priority.

What took me so long to read this book? I know, we are nearing the end of the series I adore.

This book was SO good and what I loved most is the lesson learned by Coach. It was much needed and one many people fail to understand.

I want a re-do of my Hawaiian vacation, specifically my hike up Diamond Head. After reading "Not a Player" I feel that I didn't get the "full experience" - ehemm. My experience was definitely lacking by comparison! And while I have the wishing genie out, can I request Logan as my guide? Because daaaaaaang - the boy is fiiiiiiine.

To say that I loved these two characters and the story would be an understatement and it'd just be a flat-out lie, because I beyond loved this book! This book brought me back to all the feels of how and why I fell in love with this entire Westfall U series to begin with. My all-time favorite book in the series was book #2, and I adored book #1 as well - and this had me all up in those same feelings. And I loved every minute of it!

We've gotten to know Logan through Declan and Poppy's book, and then after that a little in Darren and Blossom's book. But RC Stephens did not fully prepare us for the absolute swoon that is Logan! He's such a quiet, serious, smart, sexy, and focused guy - and I'm sorry but it's a major turn-on! #sorrynotsorry. Enter the whirlwind that is Lilli and I must chuckle thinking about her. Their meet cute is hilarious for the fact that in no way can we even imagine that something will happen between them. But then, when it does, ohmygawd!!! It is so delicious and sexy, and it's just .... it has me swooning just thinking about it! Gaahhhh. And the fact that Logan is a virgin... somehow... it's just so incredibly perfect! Surprising -yes. But from what we know about Logan, and how quickly we learn more about him at the start of the book, his status makes such sense.

Lilli and Logan each have some demons to slay, Lilli more so than Logan. And their story is intertwined with those obstacles and life challenges. The battles that Lilli is facing - well, frankly, RC makes us feel pretty deeply for the girl. We hate her ex with her, we feel betrayed by her friends with her, we feel the pressure from her dad as well as the pressure she's putting on herself, and we also feel with her when it comes to wanting to live up to her family's expectations. And throughout, we are rooting for her - we want to champion with her, in all ways. After our initial meet of Lilli, where we may not have really loved her with her rudeness, but we so quickly want to wrap her in cotton and just take all of her hurt away. And hence the reason that we want her and Logan to get tougher even more! She's just what he needs, and he's exactly what she needs - despite her fighting it and not realizing it.

It's really a sweet story, while also being slightly emotionally difficult, mostly from Lilli's perspective. But it's a good reminder that everyone has something going on in their life, and things aren't always what they seem. Everyone has their devil to drag as the saying goes, and it's a good reminder that kindness doesn't cost a thing, neither does compassion. Sometimes people just need a little support and understanding - a shoulder to cry on. And when Lilli and Logan become that for each other, it is really beautiful.

RC Stephens' Westfall U universe has been a favorite of mine for a while, and it's all due to her characters. I have loved every book in the series for various reasons, but I'm so happy she wrote Logan and Lilli's story, as I stated above, it brought back all the feels of how and why I initially fell in love with this series, so for that RC, thank you! This one firmly lands in the top 3 in this series for me!

Even though I missed the last few books in the series, it was nice to be back with all of the familiar characters from Westfall! It’s definitely on my TBR list to go back and catch up on those that I missed. As the final book in the series of interconnected standalones, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a little bit sad about that! (Note: There may be some slight spoilers for the previous books in the series in this review, so if you’re going to read the other books and haven’t yet, keep reading at your own risk!)

We first met Logan during his brother Declan’s book, so seeing him all grown up and as the main character was a little weird (in a good way!) but also cool! Not to mention, I’m a huge fan of the tropes in this book — coach’s daughter is one of my favorites. (If you want to read another book with coach’s daughter/hockey, I can’t recommend “Wildcat” by Rebecca Jenshak enough!) Seeing all of the characters from the previous books was so fun. I absolutely adore when we get to see a glimpse into the lives of characters after their individual books are over, so seeing this whole friend group together was a blast. I especially loved getting to see how close Logan and Declan are (as well as Logan’s relationship with Poppy, Declan’s fiance/wife), and I thought their heart-to-heart before Declan’s wedding.

The biggest “issues” for lack of a better term with this book was the flow of some of the sentences. Sometimes contractions weren’t used, and it tripped up my flow of reading and could make the dialogue come across as not how people actually talk (obviously totally my opinion though). The prologue is also super long for a prologue, and chapter 1 takes place right after the prologue, so I think the prologue could’ve just been called chapter 1 instead. It’s definitely a change of pace compared to most books where the guy is a virgin instead of the girl, but with that being said, it kind of seemed like Logan just wanted to have sex to get it over with and to say that he finally did. Not that I don’t think he was attracted to Lili or anything, it just sort of seemed like his decision making on it happened really fast. But that could also just be me being implicitly judgey about it so take it with a grain of salt. It seemed like most of him was intrigued with her because she didn’t fawn over him like the girls back at his school, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but other than her being hot and having a bad attitude he didn’t know anything about her to actually like her (by her design, wanting to avoid personal details, which allows for the later reveal). A very small detail but the little part with the strawberries was supposed to be hot but just kind of came off a little cringe.

Logan was a really sweet guy and love interest, and I did find Lili to be…let’s say a total jerk to him when they first met for no reason. She had her issues with her ex but Logan was always perfectly nice to her and she was petty towards him for no fault of his own. That didn’t last super long, but long enough for me to not really be rooting for her in the beginning.

….”You were the missing piece in my life, and since I met you, I’ve learned to really live. To have fun, to give my heart. You had me from that first scowl you have me on the plane,” I snort. …

Not A Player is Book Seven in the Westfall U Interconnected Standalone Series. You do not need to read all the books in order, but highly recommend you do. These Players are worth it all. I’m more than a little sad to say goodbye to this tribe. But, RC promises we will get glimpses of them in her new series coming this spring. This is a low angst, sweet read. Although Lili and Logan’s relationship began as a beneficial vacation fling, it grows. If you look up the definition of the ultimate guy- it’s Logan looking back at you. This guy has been shaped by his life and has set his mind to his goals. Lili has been raised to be strong and independent, but along the way she realizes her dreams are not really hers. Logan is there with his heart on his sleeve offering her a safe place to land. And, the epilogue… man my heart was so full.

Logan Russo is just months away from graduating early and going into the draft. Something that when he was a kid seemed impossible due to his growing up poor and his health issues. Staying focused was the plan. Girls were not. He watched his mother’s revolving door of men with disgust. And, the girls falling at his feet in college because he is a hockey player hasn’t done it for him either.

Headed to Hawaii for his brother Declan's wedding, his seat mates are sisters headed for a much needed vacation.

Lili is still reeling from finding her boyfriend of three years having sex with a good friend. Then she finds out their friend group knew and no one told her. Needing a fresh start she took time off school. And, is leaving Boston to begin anew.

Lili does not make the best first impression. Her reaction to Logan puts him on edge. But, her sister gently reminds her that this is not the person she is and Logan is not responsible for her ex’s actions, maybe she should be open to some possibilities.

Let the vacation fling begin. Logan is experiencing a lot of firsts and enjoying the hooking up, flirting, and chasing they have going on. Lili cannot get over just how nice and unlike anyone she has ever meant.

But, they agreed on no personal questions.

Weeks later as the semester begins and Lili settles into her new school, RA position, and PR rep for the hockey team, imagine everyone's surprise seeing her at Westfall U. Not only that, but her dad is Logan’s coach.

So, the only relationship they can have is friendship.

What happens when the pull is just too strong?

Logan has grown into a fine young man, who has respected not only women but, himself. He did that by not just bedding any woman, for the sake of bedding her. He is so grateful, to and for his brother, Declan for always being there. He was there when their, father skipped and their mother just didn't care enough, to make an effort, to be a mother or motherly, toward them. But, for his brother, he went home, to Detroit to give his mom a plane ticket, to Hawaii. For some unknown reason for, Declan it matters, to him that their mom is there, to walk him down the aisle.

It did not matter that the rest of the group is flying from, Pennsylvania to Hawaii. Where he is making a pit stop, at his mom’s home. It is a job that needs doing but, is not wanted, to be done. Because normally how many people have, to force their parents, to go on an all-expense paid trip? His brother has paid for his trip, too. He is a poor college student, doing an accelerated program so he can graduate, a year earlier. He is the top player also, and, you never see him with the puck bunnies either.

So, he ops for, a coach seat, on the plane so as not, to cost so much, for Declan. Never thinking of the legroom he would need, and how cramped it would be, once his seatmates start boarding. It starts getting real when the two sisters, take the seat next to him. They were, however, a great source of entertainment. They had the fine art of, sister bickering down. Just enough juice, to get the other's ire up, yet not enough, to cause a fight. He had the luxury of sitting next, to Liliana and her older sister sits, next to her, Alessa.

Lili is snippy about everything, but especially, Alessa giving out, too much information, to a stranger. Also, she is trying, to get over a breakup, and hates the world right now. Turns out they are staying at the same hotel and will be on the same floor. Logan likes Lili’s in-your-face attitude. You don't have to guess with her. When he needs to exchange suitcases with Lili she comes to the door in a small bikini. Instant lust. All her generous curves are on display. Yup! Meet-cute.

When their island time is up so, is their rendezvous. Little do they know fate has dealt them a crazy hand, and they are surprised. One is not so comfortable, or as thrilled as the other. However, both can lose everything if they pick up, where they left off, in Hawaii. Loved the series. The characters are real and believable. The ending is satisfying girl-wise, but career-wise not, so much for me. It felt anticlimactic after all the hard work, and dedication he school, and, to hockey.

Logan's story ... the perfect finale

I've thoroughly enjoyed R.C. Stephens' Westfall U series, each story has been a heartfelt fun journey. NOT A PLAYER is a virgin hero, forbidden sports romance. It was an emotional, fun, sexy read with secrets, heat, and plenty of chemistry.

As a young boy Logan Russo thought the dreams he had could never come true, yet now he finds himself months away from graduating college early and ready to enter the NHL draft. He has worked hard to be where he is, forgoing a social life and girls. A flight to Hawaii for his brother's wedding has him sitting next to Liliana Ramirez and her sister Alessa. Lili has a huge chip on her shoulder, she's recently broken up with her boyfriend of three years after he cheated on her. As a result, she's no longer interested in relationships, she's also hurting, her entire world was flipped upside down. A vacation in Hawaii, with her sister, is just what she needs to reset her life.

The cold-shouldered Lili instantly intrigues logan, but she wants nothing to do with him, however Logan is persistent and determined to get what he wants, and he wants Lili. While Logan is totally inexperienced when it comes to girls, he enjoys chasing and flirting with her, but can he convince her for more? Lili's walls begin to crumble and agrees to a vacation fling on one condition ... there is to be no exchange of personal information. The chemistry between them is palpable, the heat volcanic, but what will happen when they return to their normal lives?

Lili begins the semester at a new college, she gains the position as a media PR for one of the sports teams. Imagine Logan's surprise when he walks into a team meeting and finds Lili there, even more surprising is her father is Logan's coach. Everything that happened in Hawaii needs to be forgotten as Lili is now off limits, all they have is a friendship. How do Logan and Lili turn off their feelings?

I loved NOT A PLAYER, it was the perfect story to conclude the series. It was enjoyable seeing Logan grow from the boy in Callous Player, Declan's book, to the man he now is. This story made me laugh, had me frustrated, and left me sighing, especially with that epilogue. It was wonderful catching up with all the previous couples and seeing what they were up to. A highly recommended read, and I am looking forward to reading more by R.C. Stephens.
