I have told the story of my menopause here, the hot flushes, the depression, the confusion, the changes in body shape, the decline of my confidence and my self-esteem. I've recounted the occasions where I thought I was lost with no hope of feeling good about myself again. Having hot flushes affected my self-assurance, becoming indecisive affected my self-belief, my changing body shape and increasing fat levels affected my self-image. My libido lessened to the point of disappearing altogether. If you want to learn about how your menopause and menopausal symptoms can potentially change you, read this. If you've always been a confident, self-assured, high-flying female, you might find this menopausal account interesting. If you need some reassurance that you're not the only one suffering the symptoms of 'The Change', then read on; you'll come to understand that you're most definitely not the only one and far from alone.
This was a delightful read. Thank you Ms. Lawrence for sharing your personal experiences on such a personal subject. Open, honest, funny; this book is a clear, raw portrayal of a natural part of a woman's life that has often been ignored, poof-poofed, or mocked. A great read which I won from the Goodreads First Read Program, I'd say for women of many ages, especially with the thought process, you know, expect the best, prepare for the worst in mind. Some good laughs, great information, and a lot of hope.
Reading Jacky's book is like reading a letter from a friend who is telling you what happened to her. She manages to keep it light and witty while you can feel the heartbreaking underneath from a changed life that happened without warning or desire for it to change in that way. Whilst reading, I found myself wanting to slap the TPWDNLSS for being so non-supportive and shallow. You will find out what the TPWDNLSS is when you read the book and you may agree that the TPWDNLSS deserves slapping or your may have your own opinion. But, I can guarantee if you are near menopause or going through it, I think you will find this book either a great wake up call to start taking action now for doing what you can to curb the effects of menopause and/or comforting to know that you are not alone in whatever you are feeling and going through.
