Reach inside and choose your challenge, Find the path that you must travel. What trials have you to overcome? What mysteries shall you unravel? Of her circle, Kate has always struggled the most in learning the ways of the Craft. As her Wiccan initiation approaches, a final challenge threatens to overcome her at last.
One of the best books in the series. I absolutely loved the New Orleans trip, and also Kate's challenge both with Sherrie as well as the one she had to answer for the box. The end had a serious twist that you could only see coming three pages beforehand! I really hope the last book lives up to the assist provided here.
The girls and others are shown a strange box. It's a challenge box, containing paper with challenges on it that each person has to do before they can be fully initiated as a witch.
Kate's challenge is “Answer the question that has no answer.” Zen, basically. Kate is worried she won't complete her challenge. She is also failing science class. Kate is given a chance to do a makeup for the experiment she failed, but she has to work with Sherrie again. Kate is also told she is not allowed to go to New Orleans with the others.
Cooper's challenge is “Face the thing you fear the most.”
Sasha heard from Mallory (from the last book) and she's doing quite well.
Annie's challenge was “Give away your most precious possession.”
Annie finally gets to meet her sister Juliet in person. Annie and Cooper see various places in New Orleans and learn about various things related to voodoo. Cooper goes into a restaurant where a man is playing the blues on his guitar.
Annie figures out what her challenge means, and she doesn't like it at all. Kate has to meet with a priest at her church. The priest tells her she needs to find her own path.
All three girls manage to get their challenges done to one degree or another, yet when the initiation conference is held, only two of the girls are scheduled for initiation; the other is told she is not yet ready.
Very good story; I particularly liked the sections about New Orleans. Also, there was such a person as Marie Laveau who was a “voodoo queen,” although the legends between who did what, her or her daughter Marie II, get to be somewhat murky.
Ive remembered this book, even after all these years. I enjoyed the characters but the plots in these series were never compelling enough to make me want to read the whole series. The thing that stupid out for me in this book was that they were going through their final trials and that in the end one of them is rejected and doesn't get to be a witch. Even though she faced her fear of being on stage by participating in a play.
Annie and Cooper go to New Orleans to visit Annie's sister, They have also got one last challenge to think about before becoming full witches, Kate was not allowed to go as she failed a class at school and ended up having to work with Sherrie. Will all 3 of them become witches. Another brilliant read
Interesting aproach I must say. The Challenge Box is indeed a good idea but I was surprise about Cooper. Let's see how it plays out for her and the rest of the girls.
