The inside secrets of big business are being leaked onto the Net. But the culprit is not just a kid hacker showing off. It's a cadre of spies who are using a revolutionary, new "wearable" computer to tune in to people's thoughts. And Net Force Explorer David Gray must try to keep the people he works with -- and his friends -- from being fatally crushed by the unknown spies...
Under a variety of pseudonyms as well as his own name, Bill McCay is the author of more than seventy books, including such series as the Race Against Time, The Three Investigators, Young Indiana Jones, and Tom Clancy's Net Force. He has also worked with Stan Lee on Riftworld, a science fiction comedy-adventure set in the comics business. McCay has also written five novels based on the film Stargate. His fantasy short fiction has appeared in several anthologies and his Star Trek novel Chains of Command (cowritten with E. L. Flood) spent several weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
Good for what it is: a YA techno-thriller with a bit of mystery thrown in for good measure. I especially like the idea of a flexible computer you can wear like a vest. On the other hand, the book ended on a sour note for me, in that it comes dangerously close to applauding the actions of a suicide bomber--not something I care to see in a book directed at teens. I should also point out that CYBERSPY references events that apparently took place in THE GREAT RACE, even though Goodreads lists CYBERSPY as #6 in the series and THE GREAT RACE as #7.
In this book, David Cray, a young Net Force explorer is tasked to investigate a company to find the source of a hacker that is leaking valuable company information. This unknown hacker is using a wearable vest made from the company "Hardweare" to tap into peoples emotions, feelings, and thoughts in order to expose all secrets of large companies and big businesses. I love the idea of the wearable computer. It makes this seem like it is many years in the future, but in reality, it doesn't seem too far off with the technology that we have. Throughout this book, the author Tom Clancy takes you through dark and mysterious tunnels to fool you and make you believe you know who is releasing all of this information, when the next second that person you suspected is found murdered. This book was very mysterious and very well written to the point were you couldn't suspect a thing without being wrong. In the end, we find that Sabotine Macpherson, the sister of the owner of Hardweare, is the one leaking all of the secrets.
