A very clever play on the words from the popular children's game to make this cute book. Poor Moose can't seem to do much right, but good thing he has his duck friends. I love the chosen font for the book and the pictures are simple, clean and colorful.

This book is either going to be storytime gold or a somewhat lackluster flop, depending on the crowd and how animated you are when reading it. It contains only two words throughout the entire book, "Duck" and "Moose". The ducks in the story are very prim and proper, whereas the moose is entirely too clumsy for his own good. In order for this book to work in storytime, children will need to analyze the illustrations. What are the ducks doing in each spread? This is an excellent practice for children, but if your crowd skews to the young or the shy side, it may not work well. After the kids have determined what's happening in each spread you can read, "Duck...Duck...Duck...Duck...MOOSE!" and turn the page to see moose's hilarious antics. (January 25, 2014)

This super-silly book is great for new readers working on fluency. The only words to decode are "duck" and "moose". The story is told almost completely through the pictures, but the punctuation and the font size also give clues as to how to read the words.

Two tidy ducks live with an oddball moose (shown on the title page with underpants on his head.) Moose causes chaos for the ducks as they try to prepare for a party, but obviously the ducks love him anyway because the party is a surprise for Moose. Charming!

Age: Preschool-1st grade
Humor: Slapstick

The ducks are always organized, preparing meals, cleaning the house, and baking, while moose tends to accidentally ruin it all. But he is loved and the ducks prepare him a surprise party--but where is moose? Very cute, the illustrator does an excellent job with building suspense as we see clumsy moose approaching the carefully arranged projects of the ducks.

This fun picture book tells a story using only 2 words: Duck and Moose. A moose always seems to make a mess when he's with his two duck friends. When the ducks make him leave after he ruins a cake, they are surprised when he doesn't return for his surprise party. All ends well though. Well, sort of...

This story has a playful feel because of its connection to the game "duck, duck, goose." It is also a story about friendship and acceptance, no matter who you are or what you're like. Even though Moose tends to be in the wrong places at the wrong times, his friends still love him and his neuroses. Great for ECE audiences and for read aloud.

I absolutely loved this book. It was so simple yet really funny and exciting. I loved seeing the pictures of the ducks working so hard on their party and Moose always wrecking everything. I also loves the part of the story where Moose felt so bad for ruining everything and the ducks were forgiving of him. The party for moose at the end was great.

I'd categorize this with my one word stories section, which I use to show my students how a story can be told with limited words. The illustrations do the work in this story and are very cute. I would pair this humorous friendship story with Z is for Moose.

The kids laughed a lot with this one. It only has a few words, so it’s a very quick read, though you’ll want to spend some time on the pictures, which is where most of the story takes place.

Kids voted to give it 5 Stars.

Oh silly Moose, always causing problems. Moose have been popular characters these past 2 years! I really enjoy the illustrations in this book, and the ending!

I like the concept and the execution, but most of all I like the drawing of moose being comforted and hugged by his two duck friends. It's so sweet!

A fun spin to the classic game we played as kids. A story about friendship and having patience. Just two words make up this text.

Moose is a troublemaker who messes things up. Ducks who live with Moose get angry finally and kick Moose out. Feeling sorry about kicking him out, the ducks and other friends prepare a party for Moose to cheer up. The party is also messed up by Moose.
This book is silly and does not have educational messages to readers or specific themes to elaborate the story. But young children would like to read this silly book for fun. The illustrations are done with a white background which distinguishes the colorful characters and messes.

The illustrations are the star of the show here, the text is nothing but repeated "duck, duck, duck, duck, moose." The story is fun, the ducks are preparing for a party and the moose keeps inadvertently screwing things up by either being clumsy or not paying attention. They finally get frustrated enough with Moose to yell at him. When he doesn't show up to the party they have to go seek him out because as it turns out, the party is a surprise for Moose. Not a great group read aloud unless you area a master at wordless books, but entertaining and fun.

Duck, Duck, Moose! was a very cute children's book! The duck's are trying to throw the moose a very nice birthday party. But along the way there were some blunders between the moose and the ducks. I felt through some of it as if the ducks and the moose are playing the game duck, duck, goose. The illustrations in this book are great, and really are some creative drawings in this book! I feel this book would be a great one to read young children!

This book was such a silly read. With the only words in this story being duck and moose, the book heavily relies on the illustrations to make the story fun and interactive. The illustrations show two ducks doing a plethora of chores, hobbies, etc. and then the moose shows up conveniently to bring chaos into the story. This is a great book for young children as it presents itself in a humorous way, with little wording and funny pictures. Could definitely see why children choose this book!

In less than 40 words combined with fun illustrations, this is a cute story children will enjoy.
Duck and Duck have a clumsy friend Moose, and after Moose left the house Duck and Duck start party preparations. Moose keeps showing up and inadvertently messing up the decorations. When he makes a total mess of things, he leaves in tears because it was never on purpose. What he doesn't know is that the party is for him.

Only a few words per page. Literally "Duck, duck...moose!" The images carry the book - simple drawings of ducks and moose. A story about a bunch of ducks and their plans/home getting destroyed by their friend moose not being careful. When they make a surprise party for moose, the ducks find moose being sad because he's ruined other things, but then they make up and they celebrate moose's birthday.

Very sweet and simple book for early readers or preschoolers. A good bedtime story. Using association of words, pictures and sounds, this is a fun way to teach the words duck and moose. The illustrations are bright and clean and will keep kids turning pages. Also a sweet message by the end. Young kids will surely enjoy.

Inspired by the children’s game Duck, Duck, Goose, two ducks attempt to prepare for a party, repeatedly impeded by a destructive moose.

The text consists solely of the words “duck” and “moose.” The story uses the odd friendship trope in which characters with opposite and/or opposing personalities, beliefs, and/or behaviors are nevertheless friends.

this is a wonderful book that utilizes tonal inflection to read the story. I really like this idea for a children's book because it can help teach young readers that *how* you say something can change a word's meaning or feeling.

I'm so excited to read this to my kids and think they will get a huge kick out of it!

Told through the pictures and very simple text. The ducks work hard on various projects and moose causes accidents that wreck things along the way.
The book ends on a positive note as they celebrate moose and their friendship - even though he trips and creates some more chaos at the party.

Everyone knows the childhood duck, duck, goose game. Well, this is a little bit of a twist to that name by inserting a big, clumsy moose. Moose makes all sorts of crazy mistakes, but the ducks love him anyway. A cute story. A weird one to read aloud though.

A clumsy moose keeps wrecking the ducks' preparation for a party that turns out to be for him. Very silly and slapstick. The story definitely works best sitting one on one with a child as the slapstick humor would be lost trying to read it out loud to a group.
