Amberoanie, 17, runs away from her home to avoid the dangers of her drug addicted mother’s dealers. She has no luck in finding a place. She becomes the victim of rapists, broke, and homeless. Her life is not what she ever expected, until she is knocked over by John who promises to protect her while he is there. She falls in love with him and feels passionate over him, expanding her love, and feeling his protection. Their relationship was amazing until the unraveling events of a pregnancy she thought would be the change for both of their lives. John abandons her to a heartbreak that turns for the worse. As a year passes from the horrendous life she never imagined unfolding once more, Amberoanie is greeted by Senior Richards. A rich man with a Special Op team run by his grandson, Christopher, offers Amberoanie a choice that will change her life. The team is trying to bust a local university orchestrator of college students who goes missing then turns up dead months later. The team is trying to find the Human Trafficker Leader and any missing girls that may still be alive. Is this choice going to go in Amberoanie’s favor?
I thought I was a clever reader, thought I knew where this story was going, and then wham! Out of the blue, a twist so huge and unique I never saw it coming! I’m almost at a loss as to what to say because I don’t want to give away too much and spoil the twisty turns for you.
The characters were well developed and had a wide array of personalities and flaws that made them real in my mind. I bonded to some characters, remained suspicious of others, and developed a strong dislike for a few (especially one). Ms. Beck effectively and realistically recreated the underground world in which so many runaway girls find themselves trapped. (Note to society: It’s time to pull our heads out of the sand! We need to do something about human trafficking!)
I applaud author Katelyn Beck for writing this book and for her efforts to raise awareness of this horrible crime against young women here in the U.S. as well as all over the world. – Pat Spencer, author of Story of a Stolen Girl and A Baker’s Dozen for Writers.
Very poorly written book. I could not finish it due to the overwhelming number of serious writing errors (grammatical, syntactical, spelling, verb tense changes, incomplete sentences, punctuation, and so on) found on every page. I don't think the author has ever read a book in her entire life since she is completely unfamiliar with the style, structure, and flow of the written word.
