My Alien Romance #2

How to Break Up with an Alien

Rate this book
Face it, long distance relationships in high school are hard, especially when the other one in the relationship is an alien. Alex Bianchi may have survived an intergalactic battle, but that still doesn't excuse her from her senior year of high school, or qualify her for any sort of scholarship. To make up for college tuition costs, she takes a job at a local coffee shop. If only coffee could solve all of her problems. As Alex's senior year progresses, everything changes and she can't figure out if it is interstellar or if it is just time to break up with an alien.

I had LOVEd the first book in the series. So, I had been waiting patiently to get my hands on a copy of this book! When it finally came, I could not hold back and devoured it immediately.

One aspect that I noticed in this book was the love between Ace and Alex. There was a definite strain on the relationship, which the title suggests, while the two are trying to cope long distance.

Alex was very bold in this book. She got tired of waiting around for Ace and got sick of him blowing her off for other things. So, she just got back at him and made him wait. I thought it was kind of funny, what goes around, comes around.

Anywho, it took a little while until Alex finally figured out that something, or someone was threatening her relationship and it was probably the last person she would have thought of!

I really enjoy Ms. Vernon’s writing style and I find it easy to follow and it flows together nicely. Here I sit, yet again, patiently waiting out the next book in the series! LOL

No me gustó tanto como el primero, pero sigue siendo una lectura entretenida y fácil de leer ya que el inglés es bastante sencillo.
Espero que leer pronto la continuación y espero que sea mejor que está segunda parte.

This is a review about the second book in a Young Adult Sci-Fi Trilogy. There are no major spoilers, but it still has some hints about book one.

--------------------------------------------

When distance means nothing for an alien but for a human it means everything then trouble is not far away. That is the basis for the second book in the "My Alien Boyfriend" Trilogy by Magan Vernon.

As if it is not already enough that Alex boyfriend is an alien she is already engaged to because of a treaty to save the earth, no, now there are also those annoying insecurities about her college choice and better-looking ex-girlfriends in Ace's past. Moreover, everyone around her seems to know about her doubts and encourages her to objectively consider everything but who wants to be objective when in love. Furthermore, Ace is always so sure of himself and their relationship, which does not help at all. Maybe humans and aliens are really too different. Can Alex really make such a big decision without losing her own aims in the process.

The focus this time lies on the importance of being in a serious relationship. So for Alex, it is the first time and she obviously is sometimes a bit clueless on how to react to certain situations while Ace believe in them stays always strong. Even so, Alex clearly grew up a bit. She was not the naive girl who is blindly in love and going against everyone. This time, she thinks her actions through and is also exploring her limits of devotion to Ace.
The main themes are trust and to compromise. How far should trust go and how much to give up for someone else? Alex wonders whether she is giving up her dreams for Ace and what Ace is actually doing 'and with whom', when he is not with her.
But maybe the strongest point of this novel is the message: stay true to yourself. Friends and family of Alex are trying to influence her decisions. A bit doubt and well-meaning advice is okay but they go way too far and do not leave her time to think. In the end, Alex is only irritated, confused and lost. Regardless, she tries to be mentally strong because she refuses to think she could have been wrong in everything.

The setting is at Alex home and high school after her summer internship at Circe. So, there are not so many aliens this time, save some surprises. Also, the time moves in the same pace like in the first novel, no leaps but also not day for day, this makes again for a realistic story flow.
Once more, Ms. Vernon is adding her own sense of humour to the story that makes for some quick retorts by Alex.

The end was very romantic and I am really excited now, how Ms. Vernon will solve all the problems like the aging and what about the royal status of Ace. Is Alex going to be Queen then in the near future? I am happily awaiting the final conclusion to this series.

First off, I love the new covers for this series, especially this one. So pretty! I'm really enjoying this alien series and I was super excited to get How to Break Up with an Alien in my mailbox. After reading the first book, How to Date an Alien, I was anxious to see where things went with Alex and Ace.

Let's just agree that dating an alien is NOT normal. Alex is torn. She wants Ace but she also wants a sense of normal. I would say that Alex is pretty smart. Deep down she knows what she wants but it's hard to keep that focus when people all around her are telling her what they think she should do. I love the moments when Alex stands up for herself. On the other hand, I NEVER love the moments when Alex thinks Ace isn't for her. Ace is the bomb. Although he does have a thing or two to learn about dating a human.

This was a great follow up book. The romance continues, the struggle continues. Such a fun sci-fi romance. This is some great summertime easy reading.

Content: There was mild swearing (including a couple instances of the B word) and some sexual references.

I think I have a bias toward sequels - probably influenced by films. They never seem to live up to their predecessors or expectations.

This book surpasses them.

I loved the first in this series, but I think this one is even better. A sci-fi, mixed in with a healthy dose of thriller, and balanced with a romance that is sweet, but never sickly.

The author keeps you guessing as to whether Ace and Alex will stay together, or the universe will come crashing down as a result of their breakup - and I don't mean metaphorically.

Alex is a joy to follow throughout the story. Her little drops of sarcasm and the amusing turns her mind takes never fail to make me smile. Her thought process during the story deals with very real feelings and situations - go after her dream university or stay close to the boy she loves.

Add to the mix the potential of some unwanted (and unfriendly) alien interest from an ex of Ace's, and you've got tension galore to drive the pace up, and keep this book a page turner.

I can't wait to see what Magan Vernon has in store for us in the third instalment!

With your alien boyfriend living half way across the country and your old crush crushing on you, what's a girl to do?

Alex is torn between her alien boyfriend and being a normal high school senior. She has a new job, a new best friend, and her old crush is totally crushing on her! She has some tough decisions to make. Does she accept her place at an Arizona University, which is close to her father and boyfriend, or does she go to Columbia- her dream school? Does she stay with her long distance boyfriend, or the hot boy with the locker next to hers?

This was an awesome follow up to How To Date An Alien. I read it quickly, because I REALLY wanted to know what happened. This was, again, a pretty clean story. There were, maybe 3 or 4 bad words, and some innuendos from a friend trying to see if Alex was doing the naughty with Ace. (Normal teenage behavior.)

I really loved it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although it did frustrate me because I wanted more of Ace, the last chapters brought him in full time and totally made up for him being so sparse throughout. I loved it though. Haven't we all been in Alex's shoes, unsure of herself in taking that next step after high school. I remember bawling my eyes out about leaving and I hated my school. Magan does a phenomenal job in letting her readers feel that same feeling.
Character-wise, I missed some of the past characters like Jen and Malcolm, but I loved meeting the new ones too. I could picture my own versions of these people and enjoyed them thoroughly. Great book. I highly recommend and but read the first one first. I can't wait to read what happens next!

Book one sucked me in contrary to all my expectations and I just had to keep going. Again, if you are going to read this kind of book you have to shut down the critical part of your brain that says none of this stuff is possible and just go with it. I am far, far, far, (did I mention far?) from being a young adult but if I can love it, so can you. But then again, I do like weird stories. If you can't handle this king of book, then, please stick with Nicholas Sparks.

How to Break Up with an Alien did have a better plotline than the first novel, How to Date an Alien, in my opinion. I especially liked the role Simone plays throughout the novel. However, there were certain elements to How to Break Up with an Alien that threw off its rhythm. Even so, I'm anxious to see what happens in the next book.

I didn't like it as much as the first... She was WAY too immature and wishy-washy for me... it drove me nuts... It started to get a leeeettle better around 45% maybe? but still I shouldn't have to wait that long. I want to read the 3rd book but I'm in no rush after this.

So now that Alex and Ace have avoided an alien invasion by agreeing to get married, what’s a girl to do? Well, she goes back to high school to finish her senior year of course. Alex still has to graduate and finish college according to the peace treaty that betroths her to her hottie alien boyfriend.

Now that Alex is back in the land of boring humans, she’s once again the goofy geek instead of the kick ass extra-terrestrial fighter. So she endures the usual torture from mean girl Gemma at school, but finds some solace at her new barista job when she meets her co-worker Simone. Finally a BFF!

Things are good: she’s still on her way to be valedictorian, she’s enjoying some female bonding, her old crush Brody is suddenly giving her a lot of attention (a girl can enjoy a little male attention even if she’s technically engaged right?), and the best perk of all? Ace can beam into her bedroom any time he wants!

I mean how AWESOME is that? Ace can so beam into my room anytime. Did I say that out loud? Ok, so anyway Alex’s life is all happy and wonderful.

Until Ace starts “running late” all the time. And Brody wants to be more than just friends. And maybe Alex doesn’t want to give up on her dream of going to Columbia. What’s a girl to do? I don’t know, maybe break up with an alien?

WHAT!?! I said maybe. Could it be possible that there is some sleep creep involved here? I mean, Brody is getting a bit obsessive. And why on earth is Alex suddenly questioning her feelings for Ace? She loves Ace! And who wouldn’t want to be the next Princess of Calta? There is the whole future mother-in-law from hell that is totally against the alien/human marriage. Could she really stoop so low as to use her sleep creepiness to try to break the treaty?

No worries, Ace is coming to town to help. And to meet Mom! And Grandpa! And wow, Ace sure looks a lot like one of Grandpa’s old war buddies. Eeeep!

Top moments in this book (besides the awesome beaming thing) include:

1. Dreams involving the world’s worst white rapper (and Alex being his ho, yo)
2. Monte’s totally inappropriate (but strangely appropriate) crudeness
3. The whole beaming thing (did I already say that?)
4. Mom meeting Ace
5. Ace’s preppy boy wardrobe
6. The whole beaming thing

As much as I loved this book, I have to admit that I really missed the aliens. There are a few here and there, but no one floats in goo, no purple people eater gets to duke it out with an invisible octohippo, and there is no phoning home. We do get to meet Monte (who needs his own book), but How to Break Up with an Alien reads slightly more YA contemporary. It’s still fun and quirky, and the whole beaming thing is just hot, but I hope we get to see some more E.T.s in the next installment.

So will they make it? Or will Alex find out that breaking up with an alien is hard to do? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Let's be honest, who wants to read a book with the words 'break up' in the title, right? One of the reasons I put it off for as long as I have. Even with the reassurance from the author that it's not as bad as the title makes it to be. Even with me knowing what the title for the third and final book is going to be. I just didn't want to go through a break up. I really like Alex and Ace together so I just couldn't put myself through it. But with the release slowly creeping up on me for the final book I realized I'm going to have to read this at some point in time if I wanna read the next book. So I sucked it up and I read it. You know what? It wasn't really, really cute. Yes, you read that correctly. Frustrating at times but it ended up being cute. By golly, the author was right! ;)

Alex is back home and starting her senior year of school. Ace is busy trying to maintain peace between his kind and humans and most of the times shows up late to Alex's house. He's supposed to show up in her bedroom at ten and a lot of times isn't there until two. Not good for a girl who has to get up for school early in the mornings. Between this and the fact that Alex makes a new friend starts causing some stress on their relationship. Then you add in a long time crush, Brody to the mix and things because really messy. Especially when Alex starts having romantic dreams about Brody and he suddenly becomes very single and very interested.

Ace is very mysterious. I can certainly understand why Alex was hesitant to believe him at times. Especially when you have people spewing nonsense in your ear. Doubt can be one of a persons biggest downfalls. Doubt makes you do stupid things. However, Ace is powerful and has responsibilities, ones he needs to tend to, right? He is the prince, after all!

I recommend this series if you're looking for a cute, fun series to fall in love with. The main character is pretty awesome (and a bit nerdy, which who can't relate to that?) and the love interest is sexy as hell. Plus, he's a super tall alien Prince...I mean, hello?!

In How To Break Up With An Alien Alex and Ace face a lot of changes. Alex has gone back home to finish up high school and prepare for college while Ace stays behind and does what he has always done.Alex believes in Ace and she believes their relationship can last through this long distance. But soon things are starting to change and Alex is starting to question things. Should she really marry Ace? Is he the one for her? Normal questions a bride to be asks but what makes this so different is the fact that Ace is acting weird and not spending as much time with her and he keeps blowing her off.

So Alex decides she will give him a taste of his own medicine and she starts to ignore him. It is sort of easy because she needed to get a job to help her pay for college so she is working at the local coffee shop and there she meets different people and she comes out of her shell. She is starting to mature in this book and take things serious especially when Ace starts acting like a jerk. Now don't get me wrong Ace has his loving moments but marriage is a big thing and I think he has realized this that being married to Alex is not going to be something easy.

I mean let's face it Ace is an alien and what will happen when Alex goes to college? Will they stay together? Where will Ace live? Will Alex stand by his side and become the queen? Lord there is so many things to consider but the most pressing one they have to figure out is will they continue to date or will they break up because they are very different and nothing good can come from their relationship. So should Alex break up with Ace or should she fight for her man? What will it be.........

This second book in the "My Alien Romance" series picks up where then first book left off. Alex is now back home beginning her senior year in high school. Ace is still practically on the other side of the country at Circe. Alex and Ace not only face the challenges of a long-distance relationship, but Alex must also come to terms with the fact that she is the future princess of Calatia. Despite Ace's ability to "beam in" to see Alex, the distance proves to be challenging. When weird things start to happen at school with her friends and classmates, and she meets a new friend at work, it puts an even greater strain on their relationship. Alex begins having dreams and questioning everything, and when her friend Brody starts wanting to become more than a friend, she begins to suspect foul play in the form of "sleep creeping," but can she convince Ace of this before it's too late and someone from Ace's past destroys everything.

This was a cute second installment in this series. It focuses more on the challenges of high school, long distance romances, and doesn't have quite as much of the alien interaction as the first novel did. There are several new characters introduced, namely Simone, Alex's new friend, who isn't all she seems to be. Overall this was a cute second book in this series.

Continuing with their relationship, Alex returns home to finish her senior year in high school .
She got a job as a barista in a coffee shop and made a new friend, Simone.
The long-distance relationship with Ace began having problems. Not to mention that again the dreams of Alex began to be invaded by ideas that she would be happier if she dated Brody, her friend from school, if she moved to another university and ultimately ended with Ace.

Ace could appear in her room at night, but several times she left him waiting .
When he went to visit her, as her official boyfriend to accompany her at a ball, all their problems multiplied. Together they were able to find out who was the person who was attacking Alex and undermining their courtship .
There was not an intergalactic war they faced, but probably the imminent death of Alex by a vindictive and unscrupulous person.

The story has a slow early pace, but when Ace appears visiting Alex, everything starts to flow better.

A good continuation of the series. You get the angst of high school life along with the issues that come with a boyfriend who's not of this world. This installment didn't flow as well for me as the first one did, mostly because there was less human-alien interaction since Alex wasn't at Circe for this book, plus you saw less of her and Ace together in this as well. Still a good, clean YA story that leaves you wanting to find out what will happen in the next book. A few grammatical/basic editing errors, but overall well written.

You get to see a bit more into Alex's character now that she's in her home environment, now I'm just hoping in the 3rd book that we'll delve more into Ace's character. We did get to hear a bit more about him from Monte's character in this book, I'd just like to get a more rounded picture of him from the final story.

Another good read, after having her future mother-in-law try and kill her, Alex thought her life could only get better. Well she was so wrong about that, being back home and finishing her last year of school before choosing a college, Alex is adjusting to dating an alien. Ace beams in whenever he can but he is pretty busy with work and Alex is feeling isolated and then meets a new friend at work. Nothing is as it seems and some friends may be working against her but Alex seems to find it hard to make a decision on her own lately. Being influenced by friends, she is doubting her feelings for Ace and it is causing all sorts of problems in their long distance relationship. I found it easy to pick the villain in this story but apart from that this book was a fun read.

Check this mini-review out at our blog!

I like this book, but not as much as I liked the first novel.

At times I found Alex and Ace to be very annoying. Alex also became a tad bit clingy. What was really annoying was the fact that Alex wasn't really standing up for herself! In the first novel she stood up for herself sometimes, but not always...so in the second book it seems like she is going backwards on standing up for herself.

Although I have some issues with the characters, I still liked the plot, and the alien and human dynamic.

I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to read the second. The primary question on my mind: *spoiler alert* How in the world are a normal human and an immortal alien going to have a meaningful relationship? I mean seriously, he's going to live WAY past her and be the saddest alien forever after she dies.

So that was my one question. I hoped it would be answered or at least addressed, and maybe it does in the next book? Instead I saw the twists coming. Characters that made me giggle in book 1 didn't quite meet that level. Maybe book 3 can redeem the story?

It's a debate as to whether or not I'll finish the series. We'll see.

What a disappointing book. I really thought this would be amazing and had high hopes for it, but instead I was let down. The writing wasn't good, the plot was simply awful, the character development was even worse and it suffers the Sequel Syndrome. I'm so sorry to see myself giving this one a one-star but it really wasn't good. It was like someone wrote a fanfiction continuation of the first book and I just didn't see it going anywhere.

First of all, I love the book cover a lot. It's a nice blend of colors.. Though when I say the name I was kind of sad to read it. Both of the books are amazing, but this book gave me the feels and I just wanted to put the book down. I've seen this scenario a lot, but I really wanted them to stay together. They were really a cute couple. Anyways I just hade to read it to the end and I need. This book is one of my favorite short series.

This would've been better if I hadn't figured things out so early and therefore kept cringing when things happened that couldn't be figured out.

Also, on a side note, don't you feel like CIRCE should be more like the MiB? Knows where every alien is at any given time? After all, they are ALIENS!
