Machines aren’t supposed to feel, but this cyborg can’t help falling in love.

Assigned as a specimen collector for a captured cyborg, Chloe is intrigued by the machine disguised as a man. Kidnapped during his daring escape, he shows her that despite the chip in his brain, his humanity is not completely lost.

Formerly known as unit X109GI, Joe is on a quest to discover his origin. While he doesn’t find the answers he’s looking for, he does discover that affection isn't just for humans. But when it comes to a battle between logic and love, which side will the cybernetic organism—once a man—choose?

Evaluating his feelings will have to wait though because the military isn’t done with Joe. But their threats against him pale in comparison before the shocking discovery of project C791, the revelation of which stuns the rebel cyborgs—and ignites a fury for vengeance.

I wouldn't really want to be abducted, but just in case it happens, these are the options I would chose:

(A) Sexy shifter who senses I am his mate and uses everything in his sexual repertoire to convince me I am his soul mate

(B) Gorgeous Alien who needs me to help repopulate his planet as women as scarce and we are genetically compatible. I am not a fussy girl so his skin can be blue, green, purple etc, but there can be no puss nodules or anything, but I will allow a double penis, I am generous that way.

(C) Hot Cyborg, I would help awake his humanity with use of my vagina and he would put to use his expansive research on human sexual practices and take me to heaven and back...

This book chose option (C) and I enjoyed every word! This book managed to be both incredibly sweet as Joe (the cyborg) and Suzanne Chole his woman fall in love and also hot as hell, the cyborg rumours are really true...they can go all night long.

I have found a new series and author that I am definitely going to explore some more, this was a great steamy sci-fi romance that had me glued to my kindle.

So Cool Cyborgs!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️🙃🥰😀
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Joe - Leader of the Cyborg rebel force. He came back to search for the origin of their species and more information about their creation. He purposely got captured in order to get the information he needed. He knew they were created by the human scientists, that the scientists got them from the military and ‘upgraded’ them to cyborgs against their wills and removed their human memories and their humanity with them. Though he and many of his brethren had recovered some of their memories. They still didn’t know where the nano’s in their blood originally came from.

The heroine: Chloe - She was alone and poor, the military and scientist offered a lot of credits for her new job, which was a lab technician. She was required to gather samples from the cyborg prisoner who was chained up and surrounded by an electric field.

The Story: As Chloe gathered blood and saliva samples from Joe, she found out that the military had lied to the public about the reasons for the revolution. She thought the cyborgs were created and born in the military labs and became violent and rebelled. She didn’t know they had been men, soldiers that were changed against their will and treated as slaves until they were determined to be too dangerous and were slated to be killed.

When it comes time for Joe to escape, he plans to escape with the cute little nurse who has been taking his blood. When the man guarding his cage physically assaults Chloe, his mind is made up and he escapes with her, killing the man on his way out.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. The narration was done by Benjamin Claude and Morais Almeida. I liked Morais, she had a youngish sounding voice which matched Chloe well. I wasn’t too fond of Benjamin Claude, though he does have a deep and manly voice, he had a touch of either an accent or maybe just an elite sounding voice like that of the upper class, I am not sure, there was just something that I personally didn’t relate to.

Though the story was great. I had read this one before, I liked it just as much as I did the first time. Here was my original review: This is my first Cyborg book and I really liked it. I didn’t think I would but it turns out Cyborgs are pretty hot. The story was good though a bit unoriginal. The military has a Cyborg program used for super soldiers in space and after a few EMP pulses something happens to the neural implants and the Cyborgs become sentient. So the military decides to decommission them but the Cyborgs revolt under the leadership of self-named Cyborg, Joe.

Years after the revolt, Joe returns to Earth and purposely gets caught by the military in order to steal secrets about the origins of the Cyborgs. While in custody he meets Chloe, a lab technician who is sent to get blood and tissue samples from the captive Cyborg. He escapes and takes her captive and runs from the military. The romance blooms from there.

I was having a craving for some books with Cyborg trope and this is a series that I haven't read before.
I have to admit that this book is exactly what I needed.
Not a very complicated story. The action is straightforward until a major twist happens in the middle of the book which explains also the book title, i.e. we find out what number C791 means.

The book starts describing a Cyborg revolution that happened when it was decided that all the Cyborgs were no longer useful and they needed to be exterminated.
A few years later, Chloe is a scientist that is assigned to select samples from a captured Cyborg. Joe is part human, part machine and does not cooperate easily with all this probing and testing. He plans to escape and to take this cute little human with him.

Although it does not lack of action, the book felt more like an introduction in the world of Cyborgs. I am looking forward to continuing the series and learning more about their world.

makeout

X109GI was one of many Cyborgs created by the government. They were born human, but are now altered with nanobots allowing them to regenerate and heal. Their bone structures are covered in metal and their thinking is overridden by a BCI computer board wired to their brains. But that was before their brains started to override their programming. Cyborg X109GI renamed himself Joe once he was free of the government.

Joe is now a free thinking cyborg and he is has the hots for Chloe. She makes him feel things that he has no words to explain.

He caught her hand and kissed the palm. "I love you, little one. I might not understand how to romance you, or convince you of this truth, but I feel it. It is the most uncomfortable sensation and, at the same time, the most glorious."

Chloe is a government pawn, used to get samples and hopefully information from Joe. She's never met a cyborg before, and knows that she should be afraid. But instead, she is turned on by Joe, and can't keep her hands off him.

hot love

After the second time he woke her, she commented on his insatiable desire to which he replied, "I can go all night long."
And he did.

Chloe has been used by the government and is just as much a victim as the cyborgs.

"…I will hunt each and every one of those men down and kill them."
"Why?"
He shouted his words, overcome with anger. "What do you mean why? They hurt you. So now they must die!"

deep space

This book is full of action, and fight scenes with deep space travel aboard space ships. The love scenes are scorching hot and the plot is well thought out and not predictable as I had excepted. I love erotic Sci-Fi and this book was Amazing.

If you are a fan of Laurann Dohner's cyborgs, then you need to read this book!!! You will enjoy it!!!

OMG I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! This book had everything that you are looking for in a story that will keep you glued to the pages: suspense, mystery, action, emotional content that will have your heart aching and a gorgeous, hunky hero that will have you wishing you were the one getting his special treatment.

Oh where to begin! Lets start in the beginning with X109GI or I should say Joe because despite what the military wants people to believe, and for Joe and his comrades to believe about themselves, Joe is more then just a robot, more then just a cyborg with mechanical parts and computer components, but a living being with feelings and emotions that may have been buried or shut off but not extinguished. Upon Joe's awakening he realizes the injustice that is placed upon him and his fellow cyborgs and sets on a course to ensure their survival and continued existence despite the military's attempts in destroying them.

Chloe hasn't had an easy life and some of it has been so traumatic that she can't even remember some of it and feels that she is merely existing. Finally for the first time in her life she starts to feel alive all the result of being around Joe who has been captured by the military and is being experimented on.

However, Joe has other plans as he sets his escape in motion and he takes Chloe with him because she has somehow made him feel more alive as well. Both Chloe and Joe discover feelings for each other but Joe is unable to understand what he is feeling and why he is feeling them. Chloe on the other hand sees Joe for what he truly is: a strong, powerful, sexy man who is not only protective of her but wants to show her pleasures that no man has ever been able to do before.

What occurs next are some intense, passionate scenes between Joe and Chloe and their realization that what they feel for reach other is beyond their expectations. Unfortunately it is not a smooth ride for these two as conspiracy occurs and trust, friendship and loyalty is put to the test and the ending will surprise you.

I LOVE this book and this series and I can't wait to read book 2 when it comes out because if this first book is any indication of the series the next book will be just as exciting and stimulating as this one. As Eve would say GO METAL!

This story had pretty good potential. I love sci fi romance and cyborg stories are some of my favorites of this genre. However, I felt that the world building here lacked something. Also there were too many sex scenes and not enough story. The book was really good when the action was going on. There were just large parts where the author said words to the effect: 'they spent long hours talking and she taught him stuff to help him pass as human.' I would rather have read those scenes instead of the three or four extra sex scenes that were really nothing special. The reason was probably that they occurred too soon in the relationship. There was no build up of any sort of sexual tension because basically as soon as they got to a private room they were going at it like bunnies. Plus the emotional element of the relationship was just as instant. So what did that leave me to look forward to? The sci fi part of the story. Which was good and there was even a really interesting twist. There just should have been more.

Still it seems there will be further stories and I will hope that as in many series, the next stories will become stronger and stronger.

SPOILERS AHOY!

So, I want to get this out of the way because I haven't run into a single review that mentions this: RAPE.

What in the ENTIRE FUCK????? I’m so fucking tired of rape/rape trauma in my romances. SO TIRED.

99.99% of the reviews for this book covers the basics: heroine is a MedTech for the military who is supposed to get samples from the hero-cyborg. Hero falls in love and kidnaps her. They have a shitton of sex.

Fuck this shit. Why was that even the fucking plotline? There are so many other things that could have happened except that. But nooooooooooooooooo. We have to have major fucking traumatizing sexual abuse. Until the heroine is crying and rocking herself.

DISGUSTING and tired.

*Sigh* Where is my cyborg?

I absolutely adored this story. I've been in a bit of a book slump again lately. I've read a few that I liked, but not LOVED. Well, C791 gave me just what I was looking for; A gorgeous misunderstood guy, and a heroine who deserves love after having a hard life. Usually in erotic romance you don't get much story, but I was delighted to find the characters and setting well developed in this one. Eve Langlais is well known for her ability to write hot love scenes and did not disappoint. I'm excited about this series and look forward to reading about Joe and Chloe's future, as well as the rest of the cyborgs introduced in C791.

This was an average read. I rate this 3 Somewhat dull & predictable stars.

I listened to the Audible version & really loved the male narrator. Sadly I thought the female narrator had an annoying voice.

I was torn between a 2 & 3 star rating & if it was slightly longer I’d likely go with the lower rating. I’m unlikely to continue the series & am overjoyed the audible version was free to “Romance Package” subscribers.

C791 was the first book in the Erotic Sci-Fi series Cyborgs: More Than Machines by Eve Langlais. This was my first book by the author.

The author set the stage well for the overall story within the first few pages. The humans created the Cyborgs then tried to destroy them. The war between the humans and the cyborgs will be consistent as the backdrop and foundation for the entire series.

For C791, X109G1 (aka Joe) was a defective cyborg machine. Defective in that he also had some human abilities. Chloe was a military student that needed the hours so she agreed to work at the lab with the Cyborg. The author wrote from both POV’s and fleshed out their initial meeting and the song and dance afterwards towards a relationship. It was a quick read, so it could have had more depth into the characters as well as the battle and strategy scenes. However, Sci-Fi was not normal genre, so from a newbie perspective, I appreciated the highlights versus the depth. Additionally, it had a suspenseful vibe with a few twists, which made it an intriguing and quick read.

I also enjoyed the personalities of Sorus and Seth, two other Cyborgs. Sorus, the serious, I-hate-all-humans Cyborg is up next in F814 and has promise to be explosive.

Oh my dear blorb, you guys. I was so conflicted on how to rate this book. I mean, I enjoyed it immensely. I had so much fun reading it, I'm practically forcing my husband to read it, though I know he doesn't share my affinity for all things terrible. But seriously, this book is terrible.

There were a few problems I had with the book. First off, all the info-dumping. Let the story clue me in instead of stopping the plot to give me all this background info or have horribly stilted dialogue between throwaway characters. The writing was very heavy-handed and redundant.

For some reason, he swelled under her regard, and not just in the upper torso area. His cock showed interest too.

Subtlety, it is lacking in this one.

As for plot, there was no sexual tension between the love interests. The main characters had insta-lurve and just immediately started boinking the moment they could, no matter that the woman had just been kidnapped in the middle of an attempted rape.

Speaking of which, my brain usually lays dormant when I read stuff like this (except for the mental editing--I can't shut that down) but there were a few times it snorted awake during this read.

I understand that rapes or attempted rapes happen in romance novels. It's like spitting in porn. Gross but inevitable. The mention that Chloe had been raped numerous times and the fact that she was able to be DTF a naked guy she barely knows that shows up in her shower while she's cleaning up after being shot and kidnapped...well it's just really hard to suspend that disbelief.

Joe mentions that the cyborgs like doing the horizontal tango so they sometimes kidnap women (of course, they bring the children, too, so the ladies don't get too sad) but if the ladies don't like it or aren't happy enough, they wipe their minds, essentially making them love dolls. Dude. That's not okay. My brain couldn't let that go. Did those brain-wiped ladies have kids? What happen to the kids in the cyborg community when they get older?

Also, he says that they kidnap the elderly and handicapped and use them for spare parts. And these are supposed to be the good guys? Human trafficking, especially when it's by the protagonists, is gross and Joe and the rest of the cyborgs weren't developed enough as characters for me to be able to overlook this or justify it.

There was a point in the story that I thought for sure that this was written by a man thinking he could capitalize on romance novels without actually ever reading one. It reads like a porn script at times. There's a lot of sex but it's not consistent. Sometimes it's hot but at other times, it's pretty generic and the words used are derpy.

Overall, I enjoyed the read for how silly and bizarrely terrible it was. This is book one of I'm guessing 12 but I was super turned off by the sex slavery and handicapped spare parts that I'm passing on the others. If you like movies like the Room and get a kick out of earnestly bad writing, this would be a 4-5 star book for you. For the rest, this is a solid 1 star.

3.5 stars - Cyborg smexy times!

Take a moment and admire that book cover. Mmmmm…. I’ve got to hand it to Eve Langlais. She takes a cyborg man (and here I was picturing Data from Star Trek) and makes him into a sex machine. Cyborg sex! Can you imagine? He can keep going and going…..

X109GI or Joe for short is a cyborg who was once a man. After being exposed to an electro-magnetic pulse, his programming changed and he was able to think for himself. Joe wants to learn about his past and allows himself to be captured. Chloe is assigned to collect specimens from the prisoner.

Joe is intrigued by Chloe and toys with her. At first, his conversations with her are a little crass and he intimidates her. Slowly, he notices that he has developed possessive feelings for his “little one.” This is odd for Joe as he has never experienced feelings for any woman before. Joe notices that Chloe arouses him. He decides to include Chloe in his escape plans.

I don’t know – my usual frame of reference for cyborgs and androids is Star Trek, so there I was picturing Data with his greenish skin and funny eyes. Joe is not that. He is huge – and very humanlike. Joe’s attempts at understanding human behavior were entertaining. Chloe seemed to have infinite patience for her cyborg. I loved how she reprimanded him:

“For a machine, you’ve got a potty mouth and a bad attitude. I would have thought your programming would make you more polite.”

Joe has difficulty understanding human emotions. I found it amusing that he went all “alpha-borg” when Chloe was threatened by a prison guard.

As for the sexy times, wow. These two are hot together. One of the benefits of a cyborg lover is his stamina. Yup. Ever-ready borgs.

If you enjoy your romances set in space, and love a tall, handsome, and robotic love interest, then this book is for you. All in all, an amusing read. I’m looking forward to reading more of Eve Langlais’ books in the future.

Joe the cyborg and Chloe...
I read this ages ago and yesterday revisited it with the audio version.
(the readers; Benjamin Claude and Morais Almeida were quite good)
....So I bumped it up a star because I did enjoy it better this time.

The Earth is covertly run by the military under a puppet government. Cyborgs were to be the super soldiers of the future until they accidentally gained sentience. Now they are on the run and Military is determined to wipe them out.
A Cyborg named 'Joe' of all things, is recaptured by the Military and Chloe is pressured to be the lab assistant to get 'samples' from him. Joe becomes enamoured of her and takes her with when he escapes. But the military isn't going to make it that easy. They fall in love quickly, but secrets will be revealed that will turn tragic for all they hold dear.

The writing is EL's usual cheeky style, but with much darker content. However the fact that it's darker doesn't mean that EL gives it the weight it deserves. Instead we get too much sex as filler.
So even though I enjoyed the story, it was disappointing. Too much telling instead of showing. Joe falls for her with very little interaction between them that isn't sexual...

Safe... yes OM/OW wise but still not safe

Chloe has taken an assignment that promises a large payout, but it also comes with the risk of death. The military has captured one of the rebel cyborgs. They want to study him. The military is looking for a more efficient method of destroying what they once controlled as their super soldiers. Chloe just wants the pay. She is desperate. The moment she enters his cage she is intrigued by him. He is nothing like the rumors she has heard of the cyborgs.

Joe is not the captive that the military assumes they have. He’s looking for any and all information he can find on the cyborgs. The military created them, thus the military should have any and all pertinent information concerning their creation. His mission slightly changes when he must flee his captors. He now has to save the nurse he has been attracted to since his apprehension.

Joe and Chloe have left the military compound with a highly classified secret that could mean the death and destruction to all of the rebel cyborgs and they don’t even know it, C791. I liked the twist of C791. I had a feeling that something was not as it should be with their escape, but I never guessed it would unfold as it did. Yep, I was surprised. C791 and others like it opens the doors for this series to go into so many directions. I am definitely looking forward to the future books of this series. I liked that the cyborgs are trying to protect their future. They want the things that most humans take for granted.

I enjoyed Joe’s cyborg speak! He was so technical about the things he said to Chole. A perfect example, “I intend to take you to my home world and keep you as a receptacle for my sexual needs.” He wasn’t being cruel, just completely honest. Chloe handles it all so well. She understands that the cyborgs do not think and behave as humans do. I loved reading their teasing banter. As a couple Joe and Chloe worked for me, they made C791 a pleasurable read.

I am discovering that not all of Eve’s books are humerous. This is the second book of hers that I have read this week that doesn’t keep me laughing. The previous books I have read were very funny. Her Freakn’ Shifters, Alien Abduction, and the Furry United Coalition books are funny reads. I absolutely love discovering something new!

Wildly imaginative & intensely hot. Langlais easily and seamlessly combines science fiction with an erotic relationship full of chemistry to create a one of a kind whole that will keep you hooked. The suspense throughout underlined everything that happened while the twists and turns in the plot kept me on my toes.

Langlais delves into the concept of cyborgs well, allowing readers to discover what is expected and what is possible. I loved how we not only find out where they came from and how they came about, but also how they differ from one another. The many personalities that we encounter really brought the concept of cyborg to life for me.

I appreciated the different writing style for Joe’s POV. It made me feel as if I were experiencing his thought patterns, and how they differ slightly from a human’s. Joe’s ‘heart problems’ had me in stitches. Seeing a cyborg rediscover his human emotions was a novelty. Langlais develops Joe’s confusion over it in such a manner that it was easy to understand. Chloe’s strength and fragility vie with one another to create a character that I found myself rooting for.

Will you be able to put this one down and walk away? Not very likely. Be prepared for one sleepless night.

Too rapid of a love arc for an “emotionless” cyborg

I liked the general premise of this book, though it was extremely dark. The world was an appropriate version of a dystopian future where humans make cyborgs and then get scared and try to kill them.
The love story didn’t make a lot of sense to me just because it was so rushed with little explanation about why. The MMC is a cyborg who thinks all emotions are useless. A switch from that to loving someone is a bit much.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: SA, attempted SA, discussion of repeated SA, medical experimentation, kidnapping, captivity

AWESOME story! Loved that ending! Gives it the possibility of a couple more stories for this series :) I don't think I could get tired of reading about these guys .. especially Seth :)

Fun story! The beginning gets a little complicated with Cyborg getting the command to destroy ALL Cyborgs. At first X109GI couldn't comprehend why .. but being a Cyborg, he knew he shouldn't have to understand.

Cyborgs were machines, Robots. Tools for human use. They might have started as flawed or damaged humans, but science and technology changed them.. Changed them and stole their memories. Along with their humanity, to make them into something the government could use to fight it's battles.

But something happened... not all their Humanity was gone... not all their memories were wiped cleaned... so when the General ordered again for him to send out a wireless command to get all Cyborgs to the ship that will be destroyed, something snapped and X109GI knew he wasn't going to let it happen. and so did a few other Cyborgs.
With the new order for the cyborgs to take over the ship and kill anyone who tried to stop them, the Cyborgs claimed their rights to live.

Several years later , X109GI - aka GI Joe - was in his cell, arms above his head in chains and thick metal at his feet, followed by electric bars and force shields that couldn't hold him unless he wanted to.
Escaping twice before, killing or harming those military doctors that came too close - He seems to love his job :)

When Chloe came down to see the prisoner, she was so nervous. She had heard about people dying. The rules were simple.. Stay out of reach. Don't physically engage the prisoner. And if caught, prepare to die because the military did not negotiate with cyborgs.

The credits in her account were going to be worth it though.
Heading towards the cage, the guard on duty turned off the force shield and walked her forward, unlocking the cage.
Before she was able to work up the nerve to step in, he backed himself up and put the force shield back up, blocking her in while he was safe on the other side.

All she needed were a few samples.. blood and DNA. When she finally looked at the Cyborg, she had to remind herself he was just a machine, no real human could look that perfect.
But when he looked up from his chains and met her eyes, the icy sneer on his face stopped her cold.

There was a strange reaction from Joe's body when the tiny female walked into the cage. He couldn't figure out why his body was reacting to her this way. Sure he knew his body still functioned fully - most of the Cyborgs didn't want to bother with human females, he was one of them. So for his body to act so strongly towards her confused him more.

He was thinking one thing, but as soon as he opened his mouth to talk to her, he couldn't help the inappropriate comments that came out of his mouth. The watch the blush on her cheeks...

Chloe was curious about the Cyborgs. She knew some things, but it seemed that almost everything she was told about them was a lie. Or so he told her.
As he talked, he felt the slight prick of the needle. Upset that she distracted him with her questions that she was able to get a sample out of him.
When she turned around and walked away. Alone again with nothing but his own thoughts and plans to escape. But no matter which way his mind turned, it kept coming back to a pair of green eyes.

The next day, Chloe came back down to the cell and talked to the Cyborg. She needed another sample. This time asking him nicely seemed to work in her favor.
But her boss wanted more then his blood. He wanted a DNA sample.. when she asked for him to open his mouth, he told her she had to kiss him if she wanted his spit.

Joe was determined to take this female with him when he escaped. It wasn't uncommon that the Cyborgs kidnapped women for their own sexual enjoyment. Many of the women they took weren't entirely grateful. He couldn't understand why, though. They brought their own children, or kidnapped children for the females. They gave them a house and so much more pleasure then a human male could possible give.. He had hopped Chloe would be happy with him.

This was a great story! I thought at first it would be a lot like the Terminator, but it wasn't - These Cyborgs had a lot more humanity in them then even they knew about.
There were some fun twists and turns towards the end. I was surprised :)
Can't wait for the next one :)

Sexy sci-fi is my crack. I am irrationally obsessed with finding more of it and when I come across the good stuff I end up craving it even worse than I was before. That's the case here. I don't know what sort of magic ore dust Eve Langlais sprinkles on her characters but I like it!

Things I liked so much it's ridiculous: Joe. I'm a sucker for stories that start out with the big, strong hero being held prisoner (not broken by his imprisonment, mind you, but having an awesome physical and mental presence despite being held against his will) before escaping and showing us what he's made of. Joe worked for me. He processes thoughts like a machine but the more he interacts with Chloe the more irrational (but his standards) he becomes. It's endearing. It's cute in a befuddled guy sort of way. Now, as for Chloe, I can't say I'm shocked by how her story unfolded but I loved how she was willing to fall full-tilt into a relationship (even if it was only physical at first) with Joe and she didn't let the "cyborgs can't feel" line dissuade her from her feelings.

I adored the other cyborgs. I liked how Seth was willing to joke around and act human and how he and Chloe hit it off. On the other end of the spectrum, Solus' dislike of human weaknesses and the way he wasn't afraid to voice his opinion of Joe's obsession with Chloe made me want to hug him until he told me to let go. Secondary characters that shine rock my world!

Overall, I was entranced by the world and I read the book in one sitting because I wanted to see how the messy parts got untangled. Chloe's revelation at the end opens up the floodgates for a wealth of stories. Since sexy sci-fi is totally my crack, I'll be there.

Another 2.5 😔✌️

This was *fine* for the most part. The concept interested me, there was potential. I found myself let down once more though. There was a lot of weird stuff that could be glossed over but I’m deciding not to do so.

1. They had no reason to love one another, at least not in the way they did. This felt like a purely sex thing that feelings were thrown on top of. No actual relationship development as far as I’m concerned, 0-100 real fast.

2. Weird rapey things going on. Allow me to lay it out: these cyborgs were basically slaves, they had no freewill (until they did). So they start killing the human military that kept them captured. But then they discover sex and decide “I know what’ll be a good idea, let’s kidnap human women and make them our sex slaves”, they don’t even make it a matter of them falling in love, no, these women are taken against their will to have sex with these Cyborgs and it’s justified by saying “well the sex is good so it’s okay” hmm… While this still isn’t great, it gets worse. So some of the women get want to go back to earth but because they know about the Cyborgs, they’re not allowed to. If they don’t comply, they get their minds wiped and are still sex slaves, just without any personality. You can see how I took issue with this? It was just really weird. And this didn’t even happen in the story, I got all of this from about a paragraph. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but it made me uncomfortable.

3. Ending was incredibly rushed. It felt as though no story actually happened, the whole thing was more like a prologue to the rest of the series (which I suppose it is).

4. Sex was boring, it felt very “he thrust in and out and then they had the best orgasms of their lives, the end”.

5. No world building. Why were they in space? When is this set? Etc etc.

Man, this book has qualities I wish Cinder had. Not that Cinder was bad, I just found it difficult to fully understand what it meant to be cyborg just from Cinder's (likely abnormal) experiences. Not so here. You see I'm fairly new to the concept so I needed it spelled out for me. I get it now. The idea of cyborgs is an intriguing one with many areas to debate and explore. The history and creation of Langlais's half man, half machines struggling to recover their human sides were interesting. I'm glad this isn't a stand alone.

Joe a.k.a. X109GI, is mentally halfway between Seth (very human) and Solus (very robotic) and has managed to recover a small part of his humanity that's until he meets his woman who teaches him jealousy and love. Chloe is a human bereft of life, safety and happiness until she meets Joe.

Chloe's reactions towards the end aroused strong emotion. I felt so sorry for her and completely understood her pain and confusion. But way to get mad! Her homicidal rage certainly rebutted any suspicions she was weak. However, if I understood this correctly there were some continuity issues . Still, I quite I enjoyed this novella.

Solus's book is up next -Yes! (His name sounds like "soulless", does it not? How apt.) Take that, 'cyborg snob'. You will succumb to faulty programming lowly human emotion.

Enjoyable book - loved the cyborg/sci-fi element.

Chloe is a lab assistant that's been hired to get samples from a captured cyborg. The cyborgs became aware and the military wanted them destroyed. They rebelled and now they finally have one in their evil clutches (AH-AHHH-AHH sinister laugh). Joe (a name he chose) is attracted to Chloe. He hasn't been around human women and he likes what he sees and feels. When he escapes, he takes her with him and finds out all kinds of horrible stuff. I love that Chloe isn't mean for being mean sake. When she sees her teasing is bothering him, she apologizes and tells him she won't do that again. Very sweet. Great book. I would recommend it!

3.5 RATING- This is my first cyborg and I'm not really sure how to rate this one =) Defintely reading from my freebie pile is exposing me to new and different things! While I don't want to read sci-fi romances all the time, this was different and enjoyable (in a guilty pleasure sort of way). Overall, glad I finally read this one. I'd actually read the second book in the series if I could borrow it or pick it up free.

Wonderful and sexy as hell. The chemistry between Joe and Chloe is NUCLEAR; although it happens kinda fast. What...a little insta-love never hurt anyone. There is a great twist in this story that I did not see coming at all and it made the book even better. If you like Laurann Dohner and Evangeline Anderson, you will love this series.
Thanks Eve!!!

A solid 4 stars

My first foray into cyborg erotica - recommended by my good gr friend Sammy!

Not an erotica sub-genre that would be my first port of call when choosing a book but,
I'd finish this series - it was well written, well thought out AND HOT!!

Great twist near the end too - I didn't see that coming!

C791 was a humorous story, even if it also dealt with some darker themes. As usual, Langlais' sense of humour really got to me. Of course, there was also a lot of hot scenes, and I enjoyed Chloe and Joe very much.
There is a political kind of intrigue, including the human military. And I can't wait to see what will happen in future books in this series - I not only want more, I need more!
