Story Behind the Book“I was preparing a message on lust when I realized that the book I wanted to consult hadn’t been written. That book would make it clear that only Jesus Christ can free us from the hopeless treadmill of shame and guilt that so many well-intentioned people end up on. It would instill a love for holiness and a hatred for sin without dragging the reader’s imagination through the gutter. And it would be for both men and women, because I’ve learned that lust isn’t just a guy problem—it’s a human problem.” —Joshua Harris

Super helpful study around the issue of lust/ purity. Harris stresses the good gift of sex, the grace of God, and the need for purity in this issue. He is very practical while at the same time avoiding the all-too common assumption that all you to win in this area is more boundaries (although part of it). "God never calls us to sacrifice as an end in itself, but only through sacrifice on the way to great joy."

I read this out of curiosity, and I found it had useful information on sexual sins and how best to deal with them as a Christian. Contains good, practical advice on how to deal with lust, which almost always leads to sexual sins.

My review goes to the book itself, not the study guide. The book itself doesn't register on goodreads. Not a good sign.

I have enjoyed Harris' other books. This one deals with one of my most formidable opponent-Lust. It never satisfies despite our pursuit and the dumb things we do as a result of it. God has better things planned for us-sex in a marriage.

I also like how Harris emphasises that christian men seem to gauge their relationship with God on how often they masterrubate. Mastrubation is a sin but it is merely a byproduct of lust. God loves us and has much better things planned for us then lust and the actions lust creates.

Good book.

An informative book regarding to guarding your mind, soul, body, and eyes. It points out what exactly one is struggling with and why. I am a female and was able to see the issue and problem. It had good insight about the issue of lust a many ways we as Christians can overcome it and although there is no solution there should be limitations and arduous discipline. Over all a very easy and useful read. I enjoyed it.

Joshua Harris addresses the main issues associated with lust that we all face on a daily basis. This is a good read for youth, parents, and personal application of God's word. The same truths and advice could be used for battling addictions, or simply maintaining purity (like that's simple!). Married couples would also benefit from understanding the gift of sex in marriage. God wants you to have fun! And marriage is the secure union that allows for the most amazing fun I've ever experienced.

Although I didn't read this in its entirety (more of a heavy skim), it had good thoughts and practical ideas for any person (male of female)caught in the trap of lust. Seems to focus more on heart issues leading to masturbation rather than heart issues leading to fornication.

Certainly helps make clear what God's standard is regarding sex for the single and the married. Also provides some practical guidance about things you can do to help stop..well, bad habits. I recommend it for anyone really trying to do better in this area of their life.

Reading this with my husband, although the copy we have doesn't say it is for men. Wanting to communicate a helpful, responsible, God-centered view on this to our boys.
