This is an extremely thorough examination of English grammar from the viewpoint of the ESL language teacher. Unlike other grammar books, this has sections on typical problems learners may face and also classroom activities. Unfortunately, the book is so dense and thorough that the material is not easy to absorb or remember. I am one of the few people that find grammar interesting, and I found this book made the subject boring. Since most people think grammar is a real snore to begin with, I guess it would be even worse for them. If you want to know EVERYTHING about English grammar this is an excellent resource however. I am pleased to have this book on the shelf, but I think I will use it most to battle bad cases of insomnia.

Incredibly useful and definitely the most user friendly teachers' grammar I've found!

Hard to get hyped about what is basically reference material, especially when it is as dry as this. However, it is clearly presented, uses good examples and illustrative tables. I do wonder if there's a better way to remember what's contained in it beyond the questions and answers presented at the end of every chapter. Like learning the language itself it may be a case of a lot of brute memorisation, but you probably won't remember much on a first pass through. Useful on any EFL teacher's shelf, though.

As ESL teacher I often turn to this book for reference and assistance. It is a comprehensive guide to the issues teachers often encounter when teaching English grammar to non-native speakers.
