I finished this and jumped to the grid one but couldn't finish the series thingy. The world building was interesting but I felt like warm at most for the couples and characters. Not as intruiging as I thought it would be

This series is pretty addicting, I'm loving the world building most of all. You can't really go wrong with a fated mates trope in my opinion, although some pairings work more than others; I much prefered Clarke and Rush from the previous book.
I found the romance and overall relationship between Laurel and Thorne to be lacking, their chemistry not up to par with what you would expect from two Well-blessed mates. There was a real unbalance between the Jasper rescue plot and their relationship on page.
I took me a while to warm up to both main characters, Thorne acted like a surly idiot for much too long and Laurel was aggravating rushing into danger without thinking.
Much like the first book in the series I would have liked to see the heroine being taught about the customs of this new found world and era, learn more about her magic abilities, I felt robbed of her reactions to those discoveries. This part was glossed over and presented as if the heroine had it all figured out intuitively.
I'm very much a nitpicking reader, even more so when I find something I like. It's a cursed habit!
I didn't hate it, I didn't love it but still enjoyed myself enough that I'm looking forward to the next pairing: Ada and Jasper

Well, I loved it. It's been a while since I finished the first book so it took me ages to remember what was actually happening because book 2 jumps right into action from the beginning.
The world building, the character development, the friendships were amazing. But daaamn, this author can't really write chemistry... I would have looooved feeling all that enemies-to-lovers energy, all the tension - but it fizzled out after like half a page of steam. That was one of my biggest disappointments.
The rest was fun and I'm totally reading the rest of the series.

After reading Rush's story in THE LONGING OF LONE WOLVES, I was so excited to get my hands on this sequel and to read Thorne's story. Based on what we saw of Thorne in TLOLW, I knew he was going to be surly and brooding, but I did not expect how angry he was at the world and how much pain he kept hidden by his brash attitude. His unorthodox and lonely childhood was the source of all his frustration and anger that he has carried with him into adulthood, and it took a woman who was just as strong-minded as he was to force him to change his mindset. And Laurel was definitely a strong woman.
"I'll have my mate now."
Even though Thorne in all of his angry broodiness seduced me like no other, I absolutely loved Laurel as a heroine as well. As a human, she had created her own fitness empire from the ground up, relying on her determination and grit for her success. When she's magically transported to awaken during Thorne's time, she has to find a way to make the best of her new reality while finding a way to mourn the loss of everything she had worked so hard to build. She's used to being in control, but her steadfast and determined nature turns out to be exactly what Thorne needs to knock some sense into him. I would definitely recommend reading this series in order as there is an overarching storyline that continues in each book that you wouldn't fully grasp out of order. I am super stoked for book 3, THE DREAMS OF BROKEN KINGS, where we will get Jasper's story and hopefully learn more about his heartbreaking past🖤

This was just as good, if not better, than the first! Thorne was grumpy and angry and totally unreasonable, and omg, I adored him.
And Laurel was such a badass. I really appreciated her take-charge attitude and level head. When she and Thorne finally got over their shit, they were such an epic team! Hot damn.
I can't waittttt for Jasper's story! My heart bled for him!

I’m obsessed with Thorne but not Laurel. I couldn’t stand Laurel referring to herself as a “boss queen.” That got cringe very quickly. But despite how annoying Laurel was at times I am still deeply obsessed with this world.

Laurel the self absorbed pop culture joke.
I might be one of one but I do NOT like Laurel at all. The whole storyline with the guardians, land of fae, magic, various fae creatures and layers of danger/betrayal are so good. A tiny flavor of The Witcher in this story. I loved the first book! I couldn't wait to dive into book two as we get to tackle the fierce and broken Thorne! So exciting! Then we meet Laurel. She just kept getting bad, annoying and distasteful. First she wakes up after what, 2,000 years or something like that, and goes full blown tough girl. She doesn't wonder for a moment where she is, what's going on, how is she even alive after being frozen. She doesn't even bother to understand the fae world, their magic or the dangerous world she woke up in. Then after being frozen for thousands of years and never moving or eating...she is all, "I have a hard body, I work out and keep my shape, I know I look good so I'm going to run (scantily clad) in a time and place I lack any clue about." Its ok because she's an army brat tough girl with fight training. She can take on everything, she's a woman, hear her roar. Until she realizes she can't defend herself and her roar is a scream. This is all within 24 hours of story world and I was like...she's so ridiculous. Not sure I can stomach her but the storyline is good so maybe it will get better? It didn't. She dresses like a hooker, goes to a seedy bar (just like she used to in vegas), twerks around on the floor and threatens her mate she'll get lucky with someone else since she doesn't want him but he won't fool around with her. She puts her life and Thornes life in danger by forcing them into the underground, gets mad when she finds out he had to take some of her endless pit of mana from her to keep them alive in the ring, he sacrifices his friend for her helpless butt and she walks away from him when she said she wouldn't. Believing she's justified because she was the queen fitness lady of her time. Roar. She had a business after all, and she is the smartest toughest woman out there. She basically says she's not his mate and she will do whatever she wants. Puts Thornes balls in a vice grip and gets mad/sad he leaves after she told him to essentially get lost. Laurel is a real piece of work. Arrogant, selfish and petty. A pop culture princess for sure. Puke. Thorne was such a magnanimous character I feel he deserved a strong balanced character matching his strengths, not tearing them down.
I'm glad we got Jasper back. I figured Ada was his mate. I think Clarke is somewhat ridiculous thinking she needs to babysit her comatose friend and no one can go near or touch her without consent. Seriously, these American women are bossy and selfish. Not loving them so far. I like that willow is sweet, funny and wickedly possessive. She's fun to read.
I'm going to take a break and get some air before I attempt book three. Laurel really left a bad taste in my mouth. The overall plot though is good.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. Laurel was annoying and self righteous to the point i didn't like her at all. she never thought of others and paraded around the new world like she knew all.

I liked the plot really but Thorne might be the most whining infuriating male character I have read so far. Ok I get it he had bad childhood but I felt like he was having temper tantrums like a 2 year old all throughout the book. Seriously dude, seriously...

January 16, 2023I have certain words I look up to check the safety(my version of safe anyways) of the book. It’s a habit I picked up with reading so many ebooks, and it helps me avoid the books that I prefer not to read. It’s not completely fool proof but it works for a majority of the time.
**I do not have the context of the scene I’m about to describe**.
I will make note that I don’t think that the FMC or MMC are in a relationship but I do think they’re aware that they are fated mates.
There’s a scene in this book where the FMC and MMC are being looked at after being in a battle(?) and it’s customary that the warriors are “relieved” by rosebuds (people who sleep with others as their job). The MMC does not stop the three rosebuds from touching him sexually. At one point one of the rosebuds whispers in his ear and he says absolutely nothing. The reader never finds out what she said, or what he didn’t answer to (and if that was a confirmation in itself). Anyways, his non-verbal answer leads to one of the women reaching down his pants and starting to jerk him off in front of the FMC. It’s mentioned at the beginning of the scene that the MMC is only looking at the FMC, but that didn’t make me comfortable with a scene where the FMC has to watch the MMC get hard and get jerked off by OW. The MMC does not stop the rosebud from jerking him off, it is the FMC. She is angry and tries to leave, but he stops her and they end up having sex.
The chapter after this is his POV. The MMC answered the door naked and the rosebud who whispered in his ear comes in and winks at him. He’s not bothered nor does he express regret from the rosebuds touching him like that in front of his fated mate. The fact that he had unrepentant when seeing the OW lead me to believe that him not saying anything or stopping them was fully his choice. Also the only reason why he got dressed was because of the FMC, and all he had to think was that he was pleased by her jealousy and possessiveness.
I was going to try and hate-read this, but the MMC just seems like too much of a butthead. It’s just simply not my type of book, which sucks because I’m seriously interested in the plot line. I really liked the first book. Maybe I’ll be able to find spark-notes to catch up with what went on in this book.

Ok. I was a little nervous about this change over. Can these really be read as a standalone? As a series reader am I going to miss the couple from the first book? I wasn't disappointed. I do think you could pick up the series here and have a good understanding of the world. I also found I wasn't inundated with information I already knew about as a continued reader. Happily I also found myself still closely connected to Clarke and Rush's story even with the introduction to Laurel and Thorne.

I admit that I enjoyed the first installment of this saga much more, it is still an entertaining read.
This world keeps expanding and it's nice to see the characters grow and relate. They are a great family that is assembling little by little.

It takes talent to world-build at an organic pace while also balancing a complex, budding romantic relationship, but Lana makes it work and then some. This second installment in the Fae Guardians series follows Rush's son, Thorne, and one of Clarke's best friends from the past, Laurel. The two end up finding out they're Well-blessed mates right from the start, and with Laurel still reeling from the fact that she's two thousand years in the future in a world that is basically the stuff of fairytales and Thorne is an emotionally damaged and deeply angry wolf... let's just say these two get off on the wrong foot.
I will always have a weakness for the Grumpy/Sunshine dynamic, and Laurel and Thorne embody that trope down to a T. In spite of being a human imbued with extraordinary powers out of time, Laurel takes it all in stride and her tenacity and positivity are admirable and infectious. But it never gets to the point of it being unrealistic or toxic. She grieves when she needs to, but she doesn't dwell. She gets rightfully angry when Thorne is a massive ass, but she still is compassionate and forgiving. She goes dark when she's hurting and is given the chance to kill the man from the past who tortured her. And unlike Thorne, she has a better time of it when it comes to being vulnerable.
Thorne, on the other hand... that poor boy is just filled with so much toxic anger, but watching him soften and melt as he gets to know Laurel better is so damn satisfying to watch. This story really is predominately about his growth - becoming the sort of man that is worthy of his mate. And (thank God), he and Rush finally start to bond and heal in this one, too - and as someone who can't stand prolonged conflict, the developments between father and son made my heart happy.
I absolutely love this world and these characters that inhabit it. Lana's style remains easy to read, with just the right amount of detail. I honestly love it. I love the extra layers we're getting to Elphyne as a world, I adore getting to know the other Guardians better (there are a few that I am endlessly fascinated by) - all in all, this series is shaping up to becoming a new all-time fave.
I literally have no complaints when it comes to this book. The writing is great, the pacing is excellent, Laurel and Thorne have their ups and downs and their moments of vulnerability, but watching these two fight for each other makes my hopelessly romantic heart swoon.

We are back in Elphyne. Not with Rush and Clarke...but with Rush's son Thorne and Laurel.
It's been about two years since Clarke woke in this new world and she knows her best friend is next. Good for Laurel to have someone there for to help her understand what she's waking up to. Laurel was the head of a fitness empire in her time. A queen in her own right. She lived and worked hard to make up for her twin that didn't make it to see adulthood. She lived for them both. Even if that meant that constantly pushing forward and not learning to take a minute to appreciate life in the now.
Thorne was born during a time where his birth was illegal and both his parents paid the price. His mother with her life and his father a cursed ghost. His aunt was sent away, he was forced to become a Guardian and his mentor has been mysteriously gone for a decade. He's angry. Very. And nobody is going to stop him from finding Jasper. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE...and you need to read the book to find out rest. BWAHAHAHAHAHA. (I can not give you all the deets. That's not how this works!)
This story is continuing the war that is brewing in Elphyne and as much as I miss Rush ( insert all the sad faces here), this book was just as good. And I'm ready for more delicious shifting Fae men falling for bad ass human women. ISSA MOOD.

Definitely as good as book 1, if not better, and the narrators do an amazing job on this audiobook! They really bring the story to life!
Thorne has had a really rough life, and that has shaped him into a very angry and gruff wolf-shifter and Guardian. While on a mission to find his missing mentor, Throne is suddenly and unexpectedly matted to a human. Laurel’s past may seem like she had everything she could want, but not everything is as sunny as it seemed. When an evil from Laurel’s past comes back to haunt them, will Laurel’s desire for revenge overcome them both or will Thorne help her move forward?
This is a post-apocalyptic dystopian world with a fantasy twist, a combination of two of my favorite genres. The world that Lana has created is so detailed and I absolutely love all the characters.
I cannot say enough amazing things about this story & you need to start this series if you haven’t already!

Okay, so I thought Book 1 was good but this actually blew me away.
I'm not sure whether its because I was now more familiar with the world and the characters, but this story did not have a single thing that I didn't like.
Lana is a genius- she avoids the stories from being repetitive by taking us to different parts of the world she has created. This story was AMAZING.
Plot:
Lana wakes up half naked and wrapped in a gorgeous man's arms. Thorne declares that he is her mate, and he's as unhappy with it as she is. He only wants to use her to find his long-lost mentor Jasper and Lana is happy to help so that she can get rid of him.
As the two travel to Cornucopia, the market stalls, the clubs and dens, and even the Ring- an amphitheatre for gladiator-like fights to the death, we are given a glimpse at the magical world these characters live in. I devoured this book in a day and already want to reread.
Lana and Thorne have their ups and downs, but both of them are strong and fight for each other. I love both of their vulnerabilities.

I loved the first book. This one was...ok. Honestly they both got on my nerves. It was a good addition to the story, but they both needed a kick in the pants. Can’t wait for Ada’s book and to see more of the story.

I went into book 2 with hopes of liking it more than book one, and I must say I did!
Book two is centered around Thorne and Laurel, both characters either made an appearance or was mentioned in book one. I didn’t have to get as much as their back story or world building in this one, which made it easier and more enjoyable to read.
Thorne is a guardian, who didn’t have an easy childhood. His mother was sentenced to death after he was born, his father had been cursed and not visible to anyone, his aunt got run out by their uncle, and now his mentor has been lost for a decade. The only person who can help him retrieve him is laurel.
I loved Laurel as a character. I loved her boss attitude, her fearlessness and her ability to take on anything that comes her way with grave. She was the perfect counterpart to Thorne who seemed to only have one emotion. It makes sense for his character. He has a hard time of letting people in for obvious reasons.
I did like Laurel and Thorne as a couple way more than I liked Rush and Clarke. I could just feel the chemistry between them. Even when they messed it up or did sons thing stupid, I still could feel the love between them.
Complete side note: I had really wished Thorne and Laurel adopted Sparrow. I wanted that so badly.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for book 3!

This is a great series! A well written gripping, epic fantasy with steamy romance, some time travel, monster hunting, fated mates, shifters, fae protectors and their strong willed women.This has a great storyline and is full of action, intrigue, romance and so many emotions, it’s just wow! A great second book!

Better than the first book. I’d say I’m pretty addicted now and plowing through this series.
There were moments where I really didn’t like Laurel, the FMC. We can’t love all our MC’s. I’m here for the overarching narrative. Which, honestly isn’t bad.
My TBR pile is such a wreck.
