Book 1 -- Hello My Name Is Rose Hathaway tracks the shenanigans that ensue when Rose and Dimitri become unlikely teammates in a high-stakes scavenger hunt... Scorpio Richelle Mead is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens. Originally from Michigan, Richelle now lives in Seattle, Washington where she works on her three series full-time: Georgina Kincaid, Dark Swan, and Vampire Academy.

When she can actually tear herself away from books (either reading or writing them), she enjoys bad reality TV, traveling, trying interesting cocktails, and shopping for dresses. She's a self-professed coffee addict and has a passion for all things wacky and humorous.
FANTASTIC This is without a doubt one of my favorite YA Fantasy series. I do love Richelle Mead, her series Succubus Blues is also one of my favorite UF series ever.
What you'll find in this series: Entertainment from beginning to end. Action, emotion, badassery, growth, adventure, VAMPIRES, fighters, excitement, suspense, intrigue, passion, love. Great plot. Brilliant story evolution, believable succession of events and excellent plot development. Fantastic characters and character development. Intelligent, brave, responsable, tough and feminine heroins that make smart choices. Hot, mysterious, loyal, intriguing, inteligent and badass male main characters. Characters than mature, learn and behave accordingly to their ages, circumstances, and life lessons. Incredible relationships. Intense and developed romance with out of this word chemistry and longing. True bounds of friendships and loyalty. Exemplary.
This series has it all. I have reread it many times and I will do it again. I eat this series up!
My favorite book within this series is Blood Promise (Book 4), which is one of my favorite books of all time. However, the book that truly made me a hardcore fan of the Vampire Academy was Shadow Kiss (Book 3), the final part enthralled me and trapped my heart.
I do have some issues with Spirit Bound (Book 5) regarding Rose's relationship with Adrian, her thoughts and actions regarding him and Dimitri. It bothered me, and I don't really see how it was that relevant to the story. The way the relationship unfolded made little sense to me, specially because of the small time-lapse everything happened in. If we had had a much longer time interval, her feelings and thoughts would have made more sense to me.
The audiobook narrator is very good. My first time with these books was by paperbacks, after that, all my rereads have been by audiobooks.
I highly recommend this series, both to YA and adults, females and males. It is just great.
P.S.: The movie is appallingly TERRIBLE and does an atrocious disservice to these books. It should be staked in the heart!
i sooooooooooooooooooo loooveeeee this book ...!!!! vampire academy : great ... can't wait for the next book!!! frostbite : i cried when _____ died ... shadow kiss: ohhh my .... _____ turned ______!!!! blood promise : well ... she went to ____ .. she met ____ .. she saw _____ ... i love this book spirit bound: her boyfriend is ______ ... i sooooo love this book ... but ___ said to rose .. ________....__________has.... awww .... i cried .... but i love that quote ... last sacrifice: !!! whaaaaaaa!!! i so loveeee this bookkkk!!!!!!! i love the ending ... but she broke up with ______ .... awww .... poor _____ ... i can't wait for bloodlines!! the main character will be _______ ... i love love love thisss!! muahhh ...
BOOK 1: Though I was way outside of the YA age group when I read this I loved it!
The world was SO well created and the characters jump off the page. It is easy to fall in love or hate with them.
Plenty of action and MUCH better done than the movie that followed years later!
BOOK 2: The world was SO well created and the characters jump off the page. It is easy to fall in love or hate with them.
Each book got better as you grew to know the characters, there dynamics and the conflicts in their world! Plenty of action and MUCH better done than the movie that followed years later!
I can't wait for more in the series!
BOOK 3: Each book just gets better 3 books in and I can't wait for more in the series!
BOOK 4: Well Done Richelle! Four books into the series and I can't wait for more!
BOOK 5: Five books into the series and I can't wait for more! Please don't let it end yet!
my weakness is two broken characters who are broken in two completely different ways finding each other against all odds and healing each others wounds
Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) - 4 stars Lissa, a vampire, and Rose, a Dhampir, are on the run. Now caught by the guardians and forced to go back to the academy they both have to face what they were running from. By sharing a bond rose is able to help Lissa and keep her safe but rose finds herself questioning if that would be enough.
I was caught up in the story from the moment I started reading. There was something about the suspense and danger of everything that pulled me in. I also loved Rose’s fiery character even though she did go overboard upon occasion. Lissa was a little too subdued and passive for me but I saw the reasons for her attitude. Dimitri was just wow; I would have liked to have him guarding me. Totally worth the read, it was a great story with excellent characters.
Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) - 4 stars The Strigoi are on the attack and this time they are not acting alone, they have had the unexpected help of humans and now nothing is safe, not even in the light. Rose has to face the realization of growing up and the full force of responsibility that comes with being a guardian, not only that but she also has to face her mom. With Dimitri still lingering in the picture Rose’s feelings stay torn.
Nice second installment and continuation with the story. I loved the introduction of Rose’s mom and the implication that ultimately brings to rose. In this book rose grows up a lot and has many self-realizations that make her see her life more clearly. I would have wished for more of Lissa and Christian in this book but they are in their own little world for the time being so it was understandable.
The one thing that bugged me was the huge amount of repetition and overlap from the first book involving what happened and certain aspects of the story. I get with having a time span in between readings but it was kind of annoying right after finishing the first one.
Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy #3) - 5 stars The Strigoi attacks aren't the only thing complicating roses life, she also has to deal with the impeding trial of victor. As her feeling for Dimitri simmer on the surface rose has to learn how to cope with taking care of a guardian she can't feel, none other than Christian himself.
I liked this book even more than the last two. The relationships of the characters come together more and I loved all of the arguments. I was sad about mason but was surprised about how that turned out. As for rose and Dimitri, I just love them together and this book certainly did a good job of showing how much tension they had between them resulting from their feelings. I have to say I was completely thrown by the ending though and I can't wait to get started on the fourth book!
Blood Promise (Vampire Academy #4) - 5 stars If Rose thought she had it bad in the past it was nothing like she had to face now. Now she is on a mission to kill the man she loves, a man that is no longer the same person but a cruel and soulless Strigoi. Having to leave Lissa behind is only one of the things that is breaking her heart.
I thought Rose changed a lot throughout this book. She knew what she had to do and how she had to keep her promise. Despite everything to grew into herself and even learned that she has to start trusting those around her. All of the plot developments in this book were purely delightful, some I was expecting or had previously anticipated but that didn't detract from the author’s delivery of them. I also wasn't surprised by the ending but can't wait to read how it turns out!
Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy #5) - 4 stars After coming back from her heartbreaking trip through Siberia Rose can’t wait to move on with her life and with Lissa. But she failed in her mission and not Dimitri is the one that is hunting her.
This want one of my favorite books of the series but the overall storyline and plot progression was still good. I think in the story as a whole I didn't like how the characters interacted with each other in this one there was so much tension going on. My favorite person in this book had to be Adrian just because he was so understanding despite everything and I felt his character really shines through the others. I was overwhelmed with what happened and can't wait to jump into the last book to find out how things are going to play out!
When I first read it, the first book I mean, I can say I really didn't quiet get it at first 'coz there's a lot happening and it's not explained well.
But when I read everything. I was like.....wow! I swear, it's not the normal Vampire Story like that of Twilight. It's more than that! It's best than that! This series is by far the most beautiful Vampire Story I've read. It's UNIQUE. That bond Rose and Lissa have is just amazing. I've never heard of it, never read a story like that either. I love every characters. All of them! I love all of their names. It really sounds like a vampire name and it's not lame. They all have unique personality that can awe you. They're perfect, but in a realistic kinda way (vampire blood aside). And what they did to help Rose escape on the last book? That's just crazy, man, I mean crazy is what real friends do to save each other, right? What they did for each other, their friendship and how Abe loved Rose that he's willing to execute a mind blowing plan like literally, it made me cry. Really!
Rose is my favorite character of all. Considering the books I read before, wherein the protagonists are always helpless or not that beautiful or they have a poor way to describe themselves (how pathetic), well Rosemarie Hathaway, I'm telling you guys is one hell of a package straight from paradise! She's just a bad-ass guardian! She's like the strongest protagonist I have ever read off. And not to mention she's a girl (i know some people are sexist)! Well, what can I say? She's just witty, smart, awesome, a 'lil bitchy, a hot sizzling ill-tempered chit, and one damn of a face smacker! No, she's not a bad influence. You'll know better when you read it. All-in-all, she's so cool that you wanted to be like her. And she's so beautiful it hurts, according to Dimitri and the millions out there (esp. ME!). I'm not saying it thick, you guys!
My favorite character is Rose but the character I love, always and forever, is Adrian Ivashkov! The name tells it all.....HOT! And handsome! And hot! And handsome! And so help me, I'm going to marry him even if he's a fictional character! He's really funny, flippant and is always relaxed but knows when to be serious. He has this thing for Rose but I know it's not really their story because it's OURS Adrian! OURS! Ha! :D
So before I went drooling over Adrian, I would like to say, you guys, when you want a good vampire story or just a good book you want to read, I recommend you put this book first on your shelf! Don't let this pass by! Remember what they say? Don't let a good moment slip your fingers! Grab it while you can! Seize the opportunity, relish the moment! I don't know where that came from but this is really a must read book and you'll miss half of your life if you don't read this!
If you feel like your life is boring and you want adventure? Visit Vampire Academy and you'll have a hot Russian teacher like Dimitri Belikov or you can piss off Rose and I'm pretty sure you'll be at Headmistress Kirova's office having some bitch talk. Or screw the options, you can be a Strigoi! Powerful and immortal! And be really famous 'coz the guardians won't stop chasing you, but don't let them catch you 'coz they might kill you, harshly. Say, like decapitate, burn or stake you right there in your foolish heart!
and BTW, if you're wise, stay clear of MY Adrian. (wink)
FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT VAMPIRES FORGET TWILIGHT! Now thats out of the way lets get down to the review. This series is more then a romance (the romance is merely a subplot) its more then vampires. Its deep and philosophical at times and will make you laugh and cry in the same breath. The world is incredibly well written and has its own politcal and social issues that get you hooked and angry as if its your own world. . I've never read a book with greater character developement and nor have I read such a believeable fantasy series. Its about friendship and right and wrong. Every character is rounded and important. Not a single Mary Sue or male equivalent and absolutly no stock characters. Even if you are one of those fantasy hating, vampire staking snobby readers I guarantee once you get past the first book you will fall in love with this series. To be fair the first book is a drag but the books only go from strength to strength you cry when the characters cry they become like your bestfriends. This is a damn good book for everybody, teenager or adult, male or female. Its got something for everybody. May I stress again how strong but not flawless and generally amazing the characters are?
I love it! I love it! I love it! Okay, I admit, at the first book, I was like "Gawd, Rose is so unlikable and Lissa well so plain, shy pathetic and it was so boring. Maybe I'll just restudy the calculus, or maybe go watch some movies or just zzz" but now after reading until book 5. "Really! forget the calculus, forget the movies, forget the sleeping let's finish this on!" and I love and understand Rose too, and for Lissa well, I don't like her, and I don't hate her either. But still I really Love the book that I don't want to continue reading because I don't want to put an end to it!. yeah I know! that's how over exaggerating I was how to express how excited I am to read the final book.! :)
I absolutely loved this series. I read them a while back but I remember when Dimitri was turned, I actually threw the book because it was so late at night and I couldn't go get the next book. Everything ended perfectly and every book left me begging for more. Dimitri is the ultimate bad ass Russian god and the perfect gentleman wrapped up into one. I absolutely love Adrian but it isn't right for him to end up with Rose because Rose would never have been able to love him. Dimitri had already taken her heart. It wouldn't have been fair for Adrian to be #2. He's too good for that. He should be someone's #1.
2.5 stars I give this. I am usually a big fan of vampire novels but this book gave me a mixture of feelings of good and bad. Reason for it being in the middle.
Overall it was OK. Was wondering what the fuss was about over this book so I brought the whole collection. Sometimes it would suck me in and sometimes it bored me to death.
Disliked the ending. Could have been more. I liked Adrian, Dimitri was boring before he turned vampire. I prefered him being the bad guy. Adrian was one of the reasons why I liked the book, I fell in love with him.
I really loved this series. The first book was pretty good, with a mystery the main theme. The series really kicks in at the end of book 2, that is when I went from enjoying the series to loving it. Each book just got better and better. Richelle Mead is one of my favourite authors and the world that she has created in this series is really interesting.
This is considered a YA series - I would say more geared towards high school age. Although the name implies vampires, there isn't a lot of that going on. This series was like candy for me - I totally ate each book up - super easy fast reads. Unfortunately the newest series by Rachelle Mead is not nearly as good.
I just finished this one and really enjoyed it am going to get the next this week. I love reading a book in a series. I enjoy really seeing the Characters come to life and into there own as each book progresses
I loved this series, bought one book and read it before realising there were more. Read them all one after another and was bitterly disappointed when the series finished. At least I know she's working on another series tying in with characters from these books - something to look forward to!!
LOVED this series! If you are looking for something a little bit different from your typical vampire school story, this is it! Richelle Mead has a great sense of humor and her characters jump to life from the pages.
Shadow kiss was one of the best!! I cried at the end, and had to wait a year until blood promise came out. Blood promise was so so. Spirit bound was awesome and last sacrifice the best, I was so shocked to find out that Tasha killed queen Tatiana.
these girls can really kick some butt!! a vampire princess and her protector fight to protect themselves and the school that they...love???....hate???....ehh it's complicated.... add in some magical powers, evil strigoi vampires and you are in for one heck of a wild ride.
Amazing series by an amazing writer. Love how it captures your attention and transports you to the scenes with great details. No series by this author has disappointed me to this day. They are great reads and rereads.
