With A Dying Breath was a finalist in the 2013 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for the Science/Nature/Conservation category, as well as in the 2014 NIEA Indie Excellence Awards in the Nature Category. This is a wonderfully written, well-researched book by one of the most passionate people on this earth. You will be amazed to learn of all of the preventative measures that can help slow and one day, hopefully stop the extinction of so many of the Earth’s gorgeous creatures. Mr. Walkden has put so much love into his work and should be very proud of his efforts to raise awareness for these animals. Complete with pictures donated by over 70 photographers and artists, this book discusses why some of theses species are endangered, why recovery is a challenge, and what we can be doing to help, before more of these amazing animals are gone forever. I work at the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops, and we had a book signing with Tony Walkden. It was really nice to talk with him and get to know him. He is a great young man with a real passion for animals.
I really enjoyed to his book. Quite a few of the animals he talks about I never knew existed, so I learnt a great deal from reading it. The photos were also great. I just wished some the things he spoke only briefly about, that he would have spoken more about than only one sentence.
The only criticism that I have would be that there was some grammar and spelling mistakes throughout the book.
I hope that Tony continues to write. I will look forward to any future books by him.
Why do some animals just disappear from the face of the earth? Some might be because of disaster, some because of environmental change... most of them are because of humans, but there are ways for all of us to survive. Mr. Walkden has broken his book into continents and looks at species from each continent, helping us to understand what we can do to help. Tony's contribution was the book... now its up to the rest of us. It's an informative, brilliant book with great pictures, and he clearly states all proceeds will go to the IUCN. Well done, young man.
This is a wonderful book about endangered species and what is needed if we are to help preserve them. A lot of research and care went into its assembly. There are dozens of great donated photographs as well as a couple of sketches to fill the voids. The heart of the autistic young man that made it happen must be too huge for his body! All royalties will be donated to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Great job! A must have for all animal lovers!
An excellent reference, written by an austistic young man who has unbridled passion for animals. It is well-written, contains interesting, well-researched information about the endangered animals on the planet, has incredible pictures of the animals... a labor of love in every page. With all the author's royalties going to the IUCN, this is a must-buy book.
This is a beautifully written and informative book on animals from every continent and habitat. Not only will adults learn from Mr. Walkdin, they'll be able to share this accessible book with their children. With a dying breath will appeal to animal lovers and conservationists of all walks of life.
Buy the book-make sure you show it to your kids-make sure they read it. There are not a hell of a lot of people in the world who give a care about these creatures. Might be worth doing something to aid the cause. Tony Walkden is a person to be respected, admired and cherished
