Excellent (so far, part 1 of 4). Paladin has been set up as sort of a wild west planet. Earth discovered faster than light travel, but soon after came a wave of ennui. To counter this the scientists and psychologists [that still had some drive] set up the twelve newly discovered planets as testing grounds. John is a genetically enhanced slinger, he has come to Sunstone because the sheriff has asked for help with outlaws. There's humor, a potential romance, an action scene, and we've got an inkling of who the participants in the title scene could be. I'm going to have to read the next three issues sooner rather than later.

Excellent/VG. Serena March piloting the Balding Urchin is collecting debris. She gets a call that a nearby space station has been hijacked. In the process it was damaged and it's losing air. Serena has the only LOX close enough to get there in time to save them, but there is also the problem of the hijackers being there.

Excellent. Lavender is a vending machine who has always taken a special interest in Treena. When she shows up with a black eye and a split lip he starts talking to her. Funny, romantic, heartwarming.

102 • Between Singularities • 8 pages by Wolf Read
OK/Good. Humanity achieved a singularity. It evolved to a higher state of being. Erik has lived for aeons. Stars have come and gone. He thinks about that first life with Karen, that now constitutes no more than a blink of an eye, wondering if she is still out there.

110 • Distance • 24 pages by Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff
Good+/gimmicky. A SETI type observatory receives a signal coming from the old Pioneer explorer. It's one set of numbers. The third attempt at sending something back was echoing what was sent. This yielded thirty sets of numbers. They post the numbers. Bill from British Columbia has an outlandish idea. It kind of works and they meet.
