Wonders of Creation

The New Astronomy Book (Wonders of Creation) by Danny R Faulkner

Rate this book
If you watch the stars at night, you'll see how they change positions. Many ancient pagan cultures taught that the changing stars caused the seasons to change. Unlike these pagan teachings, the book of Job gives credit to God for both changing stars and seasons (Job 38:31-33). When Job looked at Orion, he saw about what we see today, even though he may have lived as much as 4,000 years ago. This gives us a direct connection to him, and more importantly to the God who made both the stars and us.

"The New Astronomy Book" is an educational book about astronomy aimed at homeschoolers. The author writes from a biblical (young earth creationist) viewpoint. The book has three levels of information for each chapter: Level I is for grades five and six, level II is for grades seven and eight, and level III is for grades nine through eleven. The author started off by talking about our solar system, with detailed information about our sun, moon, and the other planets in our solar system. He also talked about telescopes and studying the universe, the history of astronomy, the different types of stars and galaxies, nebula, extrasolar planets, quasars, star clusters, our galaxy, the speed of light and the age of the universe, and how the universe is expanding and ideas about the origin of the universe. The author often explained the varying views on a topic among evolutionist and creationist astronomers. There's a poster in the back that illustrates the planets of our solar system and their major moons. The book is full of amazing, full-color pictures. Overall, I'd recommend this is an interesting, informative book.

My son Adam is studying Astronomy in Science this year. When The New Astronomy Book, by Danny R. Faulkner came in the mail, I was oh so excited since it goes right along with what he is doing! We have had a lot of fun so far this year.

The New Astronomy Book by Danny R. Faulker Review on My MisMatched World Multi Age Format for the entire family The New Astronomy Book has 3 skill levels, younger, middle, and high school. Level 1 reads the white background text, which contains a ton of information to understand. The 2nd level uses both the white background and the purpleish background. The 3rd level uses the other 2 levels as well as the blue gridded background.

When I first opened The New Astronomy Book, I right away fell in love. I LOVED how the Table Contents is set up! I really did! I was like dude.. this is so cool. The New Astronomy Book by Danny R. Faulker Review on My MisMatched World Multi Age Format for the entire family

Call me so crazy, or as my Jacks says, I am being silly. I just think it is incredibly clever the way they set it up okay?

When you open The New Astronomy Book, you are going to find chapters such as, Two Kinds of Planets, History of Astronomy, and Cosmology.

In each chapter, you are going to find a cell phone that contains the missive, or the words to know. I am having my student write them out and define them. He will know what each word is, and how to spell it. You will find the 3 levels of study. You will also find a verse that pertains to the chapter. The first verse is Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The scriptures are taken from the New King James Version. While not what I rather my boys have, I am not fussy about it. I would rather just the KJV. When there is a question, we do pull up our bible and read the verses from there.

Another GREAT feature are the full color photographs. Oh my WORD, they are so colorful! Simply AMAZING! We really thought this was a great feature and made The New Astronomy Book stand right out. I know my son Adam looks forward to this subject each day, and I have to believe it is because he loves not only learning, but checking out each photo that is within the chapter.

Last, but not the least in any bit is the pull-out poster titled, Exploration of our Solar System. It is just The New Astronomy Book by Danny R. Faulker Review on My MisMatched World Multi Age Format for the entire familyincredible. I love the set up. It is glossy, and bright. The planets and their other systems just stick right out. It is so easy to read. It is 3 pages long. So, it is a good size to put on in your "classroom" or, in your child's room. I am not sure where we will put ours, I just might leave it in the book so that my next child can also check it out and have it to study from.

We give The New Astronomy Book, by Danny R. Faulkner 5 stars.

We had the original version of The Astronomy Book in our home library already, so I was eager to see how this updated version compared to it. The first thing that I noticed is that there is a completely different author for this book. The next thing that I noticed is that it has been updated to include the 3 levels of learning that you find in all the newer books in the Wonders of Creation series. Obviously, some of the data has been updated as there have been changes in astronomy since the publishing of the original book such as Pluto no longer being classified as a planet.

If you’re not familiar with the layout of the new Wonders of Creations series, it’s laid out in a manner that helps the student/reader cover the material according to their learning level. It has different color backgrounds for the different levels: level one – off-white background, level two – purple background, and level three – blue gridded background. It’s a quick and easy way to identify the knowledge level that goes from basic to upper level learning concepts. Everything is presented from a Biblical worldview where God is the creator of the universe.

Each topic has a quick look at the words/concepts that will be covered in the upcoming chapter. Throughout the chapters, there are little notes on the history of the race to space as well as people who have influenced the world.

I like that this book can be tailored to all ages and easy be turned into the basis for a unit study in astronomy. Because this is presented from a Biblical worldview, you’ll look into Biblical history as well as study what the Bible says about various aspects of astronomy. Full color images, charts, and graphics make the study come to life for readers. For those who enjoy studying the constellations, the book even includes images of the night sky for the four different seasons. Finally, the book includes a beautiful pull-out poster featuring our solar system.

The New Astronomy Book is a beautiful upgrade from the previous version, and I definitely recommend adding it to your collection even if you already have the old version.
