(Book 3 of 4) Parallel universes have their own rules.
High school senior and amateur physicist Audie Masters has done what no other physicist has done before her: discovered a parallel universe. She’s also found a parallel—and very different—version of herself.
Now what?
As Audie struggles with the dangerous effects of traveling to a parallel universe, now she wonders if she’s gone too far.

Going in I thought this was a trilogy for some reason, so that may have affected my reading experience a bit. I thought I was getting answers and a conclusion, but instead it was another bridging volume.
What I enjoyed about this novel (seeing what was happening with Halli, seeing her motivations for things) was probably also what frustrated me the most about it. The way Halli was presented, especially when we see the life lessons her grandmother taught her, seemed very accurate. But that accuracy also meant that Halli was very selfish/self-serving. It was frustrating to see one character fighting so hard and being trapped in circumstances, while the other, even though she was trapped in her own way, used everything for her own advantage. Halli Markham's most important priority is always herself, so it was very upsetting to see her do whatever she wanted and not care about other people's feelings, most especially what Audie would have to deal with if she ever came back.
Interesting, Audie was the one I was frustrated with in the previous book, when she was caught up in Jake rather than a) being loyal to Daniel, and b) working on the switching bodies problem. I really liked how Audie recommitted herself to the issues in this book, even though she's very quickly waylaid by her health and her (Halli's) parents' influence over her.
As I said, I was expecting conclusions, so I was a bit frustrated when there was a lot of thought process going on here, but not a lot of action. However, the next novel will be the final volume, and I'm still very much looking forward to seeing how Robin Brande will bring everything together. I really love how she's brought real science (or at least the love of science and scientific theory) into science fiction.
WOW! I loved this and cannot imagine there are enough words to describe how in love with these books I am! You just have to read this series, it is for all ages and believe me, it is for someone as young as ten. They may not 100 percent understand all the concepts but the story will enthrall them and they will be able to follow along!
I have enjoyed the books in this series. I wish I'd had time to reread the two previous books in the series, but, since that wasn't possible, I'll just say that it took me a few chapters to fully remember (in a satisfactory way) what was going on, what had just happened. I found myself remembering the big things, but forgetting the little things. I would encourage readers to read the series as close together as possible.
Seize the Parallel keeps readers in touch with both Halli and Audie. The two have definitely switched places. Halli's consciousness is inhabiting Audie's body. Halli is having to adjust to this parallel universe. Since Halli and Audie are so very different from one another, she's having to make some harsh decisions. She cannot successfully pretend to be Audie and fool anyone. She's having to be Audie-whose-had-a-change-of-heart-transformation. An Audie who is obsessed with exercise and eating healthy. An Audie who loves to cook. An Audie who has lost interest in attending the college of her dreams. An Audie who has suddenly decided to become a nature guide! Audie's consciousness is inhabiting Halli's body. She has an easier time, perhaps, in this book in that she spends the entire book in the hospital in the parallel universe. She is on pain killers. She's barely allowed visitors. She's considerably worried and anxious to get back to her body, to get back her life, to make contact again, but, there is a lack of action.
If Seize the Parallel has a fault, it would be lack of action. It has complex ideas, but, most of the book is just spent waiting for decisions to be made and actions to be taken.
My enjoyment of a book is not determined by the amount of action. I didn't have a problem with it personally. For me, it is almost always matter of characterization. Seize the Parallel does not stand alone. I cared about the characters because I'd read the previous books. I'm not sure I would have cared about them based on this book alone.
Two things about this book that took getting used to was the way Audie told both stories, hers and Halli's. Halli's story she told as if she was looking over her shoulder. This is Audie's story so I guess that is the only way to tell the story. Because you go back and forth between the two stories you have to tell the story the way Robin has told the story. Second is how Audie and Jake act. I know I'm an old man and the book is written to teenage girls so maybe you can't have a teenage girl's book without kissing. I just think it went overboard. Again maybe the target audience would be saying we want more. Enough of that line in the story. This is an awesome third book (not the last) in the series. I have no idea where we are going to end up. I just know this book had to be written to get us there. This book begins to show the difference between Audie and Halli. The author has done a great job is showing the consequences for our actions. If Robin is trying to make a statement with this series, this book is the key in seeing how what we do and what we want has an effect on others in our life. We can’t get around that.
Parallelogram 3 is another riveting book in the Parallelogram series. This book explores a young girl adventurer from another dimension who is thrust into the body of a girl in our present dimension. The author takes us on a psychological journey of how the young girl adapts to a completely different body and society. Because of her adventurous background, she is able to adapt to this new life with complete confidence. The new personality of the girl is shocking to her family and friends in the present dimension, which gives the reader moments of humor, anger, and complete surprise. The book ends on a surprising cliffhanger that only makes me wanting more. I cannot wait to read Parallelogram 4! Ms. Brande takes the concept of quantum physics and applies it to a real-life situation. This is a great read and series for anyone who enjoys stories about multi-dimensional worlds. The author completely abandons linear thought, and I truly enjoyed this creative book and series!!!
okay, so I liked this one a little more than the 2nd book since there was less Jake, even though I still wanna punch him when he does appear. I found the writing for Halli/Audie was interesting and enjoyed learning a little more about Halli's grandma. I was liking the confidence that Halli is bringing to Audie in her world but the ending where Halli decides to take off instead of sticking to what is best for Audie, really made me dislike Halli. I'm interested to see what Audie will do in Halli's world as retaliation since that is what I foresee.
Not as good as the first two. I thought she was going to finish the story and just when it started to get interesting, she ended it and left you hanging for the next book.
