I absolutely love Kim Harrington’s books and Sleepover Stakeout was just as awesome as all the other books. I started it and had to keep reading because I was really curious about a lot of what was happening. Later on I could figure out what was going on but it was still really fun to watch the characters figure out the mystery for themselves. This is a middle grade novel so it’s a really fast read and one that I found really enjoyable too. The ending was very interesting and left a place for the next book which I am looking forward to reading. I’m curious to see how the rift will be solved. Overall, I love Kim Harrington’s work and Darcy and Norah just have such fun adventures that if you love mystery you should be checking out these books.
I love this series! I liked how the girls worked together to solve a mystery and deal with the jerky boys in the neighborhood and assist a lonely neighbor in need.
I'm reviewing these three books together because they go together. Each book is a continuation of the previous ones, which I like. It makes it seem more realistic. Norah and Darcy are best friends. Despite some differences they complement each other nicely. Norah loves astronomy and shrugs off the title of 'nerd' believing that intelligence is something worth sharing. Darcy loves black and purple and crime shows, she also has great skills on the computer that she sometimes misuses.
In the first book, Partners in Crime, Norah and Darcy form a pretend business for a class assignment. They are surprised when an anonymous someone seeks their detective help in finding a missing person. They decide to help but first they need to find out the identity of the person seeking their aide. Using Darcy's computer skills and Norah's inescapable logic, can they find the mysterious requester or the missing person?
In the second book, Norah and Darcy's friendship is tested when Norah starts spending time with Fiona, the most popular girl in school, and Maya, the quietest girl in school. But the friendship issues take a back seat when Maya comes to them with a problem, mysterious noises are coming out of a baby monitor while she's babysitting. Can they catch the culprit(s) and maintain their friendship?
In the third book, Norah and Darcy's friendship seems to be over, but is it? And what about Zane, Norah's crush, did he really burn down the field house or has he been framed as he claims? Can Darcy and Norah stop fighting long enough to find out?
This is a delightful new mystery series of special appeal to girls. Not only is the writing good but the stories are interesting and believable. They also involve the technological side of things involving computer hacking, smart phones, and baby monitors. Okay, so baby monitors aren't really high tech, but once you've read book two you might think otherwise. This is a great series to recommend to readers who've moved past Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys or who want a more modern type of mystery. I think this series will really speak to young readers, and I really enjoyed it myself
I enjoyed reading Partners in Crime. So, I was eager to pick up this book and dived right into it.
“Partners in Crime” is getting busy. Norah and Darcy are receiving requests from their classmates to solve mystery cases. Juggling between school work and detective investigation, Norah is feeling overwhelmed. So, when Darcy insists on doing things her way, Norah becomes annoyed and frustrated. Even though they have been best friends since fourth grade, their friendship is now getting shaky. Will Norah and Darcy remain best friends forever?
I really love how this story highlights the ups and downs in friendship. It’s not easy to try and be accommodating of one another when two people are having fights. And it’s even harder when there isn’t any opportunity for the two people to calm down and have an honest heart-to-heart conversation. When a person assumes and then accuses another of something that has never happened, it really sucks for the one who is being accused to not have a chance to explain and be understood. It is definitely sad to see a friendship falling apart, but I’m glad that Harrington chooses to talk about the fragility of friendship in a middle-grade novel.
Just like Partners in Crime, I find it fairly easy to pick out the clues and resolve the mystery case. Although both stories are entertaining, I personally enjoy Sleepover Stakeout more.
The Sleuth or Dare series by Kim Harrington is my first foray into middle grade and I have enjoyed every second of it! I love the mysterious atmosphere and the fact that these two twelve-year olds are trying to solve these light-hearted mysteries. They are so much fun and reminds me of how much I loved reading Harriet the Spy when I was younger!
I stayed away from middle grade for so long because I didn’t think I would like reading from the perspective of a tween. But there’s just something about this twelve-year old duo that I love! Their voices are so fresh and they end up solving really interesting mysteries instead of the same old “who done-it.” I love the way Norah and Darcy work together and play off each other’s strengths. We also see a lot more of their friendship and the intricacies of why they get along and not so much sometimes. I thought it was important to highlight Darcy’s jealousy when Norah starts hanging out with other people. It’s something that most friendships go through. Not everyone grows in the same ways and someone always ends up feeling left behind.
Again, I just absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next one! I am giving Sleepover Stakeout 4 hearts for making me think that I should be a private investigator!
The second case for Darcy and Norah, and their newest Partners in Crime addition, Fiona - a popular, fashion savvy, middle schooler.
The new case involves the quiet and shy Maya, a new student who lives on the same block as Norah’s crush. Maya has been hearing voices over the baby monitor, every Saturday night that she has been babysitting her little brother. She asks Darcy and Norah to help, and with the help of Fiona, the girls are on the case to solve the mystery.
In this installation, we are introduced to Maya’s family, a few new characters make an appearance and several old ones. The mystery is a bit scarier but the formula is pretty much the same - quite a few clues are dropped along the way and an observant reader might figure out the mystery before the characters.
Kids who love a good mystery and a little scare will enjoy this read.
This is a great series! It picks up straight after the last book Partners in Crime, but things haven't really been quiet for the girls as life charges on. I like that the girls' relationship is looked at a bit harder here and it's great to see that they are having all the same problems I have at that age (except I did not have a detective agency!). Spoiler!!: Cliffhanger ending! I couldn't believe it! Thankfully, I already have Framed & Dangerous waiting.
My character is Norah from the book Sleepover Stake out by Kim Harrington. Norah is a girl whose super smart and kind. She doesn't care what she looks like fashion wise. Studying astronomy and helping out people is what she does in her detective club with her BFF Darcy. In the second book in this series it's not just the person she's helping who has a problem... it's her. Facing the fear of getting glasses. Sure there's the meanest boy in class,Slade taunting her. But to her all that matters is having a best friend who has your back. Norah is a fascinating character who I can't wait to find more about!
I love how all the mysteries in this series are realistic and could possibly happen in real life. I also like how the books characters explain their thinking and reasons, and finally I liked how realistic the argument at the end was. Me and my best friend went through that exact same conflict and it changed our friendship. That is a popular problem with best friends, " You aren't spending enough time with me and are spending more time with him/her. We were so close and now I feel like you don't care about our friendship anymore." These books are realistic and have some conflicts that I and other people can. relate to.

Norah and Darcy's detective agency, Partners in Crime, is taking on a new and chilling case. The girls' classmate, Maya, is hearing strange, crackling voices coming over the baby monitor while she's babysitting late at night. Maya is worried someone might be in danger.
To help investigate, Norah and Darcy join her for a sleepover stakeout. In between eating snacks and watching TV, the girls are on high alert for anything suspicious. Soon, they stumble upon a mysterious secret they never could have imagined but Norah and Darcy clash over how to interpret the new clues.
In this second book of the Sleuth or Dare series, Norah and Darcy team up with Fiona (former mean girl) to help Maya (shy girl) discover the source of strange voices coming from her baby brother's monitor.
These books are fun and they have a lot to say to tweens. In this one we see the minor changes that seem so awful at that age (glasses, braces). And this book deals with changing friendships and bullies. It also takes on accepting misconceptions about people. And you get a nice little mystery too.
I thought the book was really good because the book was full of suspense and was like a wild goose chase[but not like an exact wild goose chase]. Norah and Darcy are the main characters.I would reccomend this book to mystery lovers and 6th and 7th graders.
This book by Kim Harrington is REALLy good in my opinion. It's scary and makes you feel like turning the page because something always happens. It's never boring. One second she's at a sleepover and the next second she's searching in the woods. People will love this book.
I love this series. Good lessons about friendship, plus a spine-tingling mystery. I actually got goosebumps while reading it! Note- you're going to want the next book in the series right away because the ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger!
Another amazing Sleuth or Dare book! This one has a bit of a cliff-hanger ending, but it's more of an emotional cliff-hanger. I don't care how small these books are, I can't wait to read the next one!!
this book actually talks about two girls working together and running a fake detective agency. this also teaches children about teamwork and honesty i thought this book was amazing and very cool
