I highly recommend reading this book. This is the first paranormal romance novel I have ever read and I really enjoyed it! The characters are real and likable. You will find yourself sympathizing, laughing, crying, and rooting the characters on throughout their lives.

Aubrey was married to the love of her life, Matt. Pregnant with their first child, they were excited to be planning their future as a family when Matt had a terrible accident, leaving Aubrey with many internal struggles and a great deal of heartache. Aubrey and her best friend Laura, both attorney's, stick by each other through relationship heartaches and life's indecisions. Aubrey finds it difficult to have a relationship with anyone when her heart still belongs to Matt. In her quest to find closure and answers as to how Matt died, she believes that he visits her and sends her messages. Is there really this ability to communicate with him and do her new psychic abilities have anything to do with his return?

Aubrey finds love with a man named Gavin, who strangely resembles her deceased husband in many ways. Their new found love will have you falling in love with them. Matt's death left her questioning the why's and how's of his accident, making it impossible for her to get involved with anyone. The ultimate question is...Is Matt really dead? Is his ghost what is helping Aubrey move on with her life? How will she truly find out what the truth is and be able to trust what her future holds? Is there life after death?

Once Upon Another Time is a great novel. The ending allows us to experience how Aubrey chooses to accept her life and the events that have occurred. Rosary McQuestion tells a beautiful love story that reaches beyond the limits of the heart.

Totally absorbing feelgood book

Rosary McQuestion’s book ‘Once upon another time’ touches on a number of exciting concepts: everlasting love that crosses over into the afterlife, loss and sorrow, the challenge of balancing career and family life, and the warmth of friendship. The protagonist is lovable lawyer Aubrey McCory, a scatterbrained mother and widow, who still pines for her dead husband, Matt. At a dark time in her life, she suddenly begins to see Matt’s ghost in different places, and other weird things happen, and she wonders why Matt is trying to contact her. She struggles to find answers, but answers are as elusive as snow on a summer's day.

The essence of this book is that all the key characters are likeable, you care what happens to them, and hope against hope that poor bereft Aubrey, who never got over her husband Matt’s death, can somehow find happiness. Despite her friend Laura’s attempts at matchmaking, Aubrey never finds anyone who can replace Matt. What is more she finds her sudden ability to read people thoughts disquieting to say the least (especially when she reads a potential suitor’s mind when he thinks her breasts are small!).

Lots of thing happen, lots of difficulties lie in Aubrey’s path, chiefly her fear that she’s losing her mind, and her doubt that her new psychic abilities can be genuine. But there’s also a lot of humour, and the book is interspersed with plenty of zany crazy happenings that keep you smiling.

Why is Aubrey’s dead husband giving her messages? Why does she keeps seeing his ghost and feel that he’s struggling to tell her something? And how can she ever be happy with a new man, when she knows she will never get over the death of Matt? Confusion happens when she meets the eminently desirable Gavin and finds him attractive. But how can she ever succumb to Gavin’s charms, when she’s still entangled with her beloved dead Matt?

Once you start you have to keep reading this enthralling book because you want Aubrey to have a happy ending. I can tell you that there is a very happy ending, but you’ll need to share Aubrey’s rollercoaster of emotions before you find it. And you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Aubrey McCory is a woman in love. The only trouble is, the love of her life, husband Matt, died eight years ago in a tragic accident, and before their son was born. Aubrey knows she should move on, but there is something about Matt’s death that simply won’t let her. It must have been something dreadful because her mind has blanked it out – she can’t recall that day or exactly what happened.

Aubrey is also a high-flying lawyer, a practical woman who deals daily with the gritty world of claim and counter-claim. Not the kind of woman normally given to flights of fancy. Yet when strange things start happening that seem to point toward the ghost of her husband telling her it’s ok to move on and date Gavin, the handsome new man on the scene, Aubrey is torn three ways. Should she stay true to Matt’s memory, or move on and date Gavin - or maybe she’s losing her mind?

In this well-written romance with paranormal overtones, Rosary McQuestion handles the supernatural aspects with a delicate touch. Aubrey is a complex woman, devoted to her career, her young son, and her husband’s memory. Yet the reader wills her to make a new life with Gavin, with whom son Nicholas bonds deeply. Is there a surprising connection between Gavin and Matt? Can the spirit really live on after death? They say love never dies – read this book and find out if it’s true. You won’t be disappointed!

Aubrey McCory loses her husband, Matt, in a tragic accident, shortly before their son is born. Eight years later she begins to see the ghost of Matt, just as she meets Gavin, who reminds her so much of her late husband. The two are clearly connected, but how, and to what degree?
All of Rosary McQuestion’s characters are multi-layered and believable. Some are so well drawn they are almost recognizable even in my world. I particularly liked the central character, Aubrey McCory. She’s beautiful, intelligent; a successful lawyer. She’s also scatterbrained, insecure, vulnerable; a little lonely. She lines up food cans in her kitchen cupboard like little soldiers, and counts chocolates on the pillows of hotel rooms.
Some of the author’s asides and observations are so witty and to the point that I laughed out loud a couple of times, and for a grizzled old Highlander who has read more books than he cares to remember, that is really saying something.
This is a book that is fun, likeable, intriguing and ultimately quite thought-provoking. It is also a delight to those of us with a fondness for cinnamon! If you want to know why, well you’ll just have to buy your own copy of Once Upon Another Time. Believe me, it will be money well spent.

4 Stars and a "Beautiful Story with a Twist!" Shout

It's no wonder this book made best-seller status on Amazon. It's a great romantic read with a paranormal twist and lot's of humor. Certainly a variety of readers will relate to one or more of the characters in this story. Despite a previous review noting proofreading errors, the author seems to have addressed almost all of them by the time I read the book. My only note of critique will be that the characters could have been more visually developed, allowing me to see them in my mind better and it was a bit of a long read. Still, overall, the book is very well written and was difficult to put down. For those readers that want a story that doesn't end too soon but is longer and very enjoyable, this is definitely the right choice.

Aubrey McCory is the lead character, widowed some 7 years earlier and still very much in love with her late husband. Her friends pressure her to move on and date, fixing her up with blind dates as often as she will concede. She is struggling with supernatural events that have her feeling like she's loosing her mind while trying to lead a normal working life and raise the child she was pregnant with when her husband died. Tension and some mystery build after this is all established and painted in adjective rich prose and you'll have to see for yourself. I particularly enjoyed that the writing demonstrated a very realistic way that we see things, respond to things, interact with each other and behave during events we can't explain immediately and doused with just the right amount of humor through out. This was a tough subject to write about and the author's style and approach were clever and skillful. The book really makes you wonder and want to believe in miracles.

No spoilers here, you'll have to add this book to your collection to learn all about the rest of the wonderful characters and to know if she was going crazy or does she find out why her husband's ghost keeps appearing and does she move on to find love again? The rollercoaster ride through this romantic paranormal read will be worth it!

Rosary McQuestion’s gloriously romantic Once Upon Another Time is one of those books every woman should read who has gone through grief and the anguish of loss. It deftly juggles the concepts of love continuing beyond the grave while raising a child and working long hours. The entire book is from lawyer, Aubrey McCory’s point of view and the author seamlessly weaves a paranormal tale of strange messages from the afterlife with Aubrey’s close friendship with her best friend, Laura.
From the first page the reader is hooked and needs to turn the next page all lovingly coated with rich descriptions, the inner workings of the female mind under extreme stress and a mystery that slowly unravels along with Aubrey. Is Aubrey responsible for her husband, Matt’s death seven years before? Her psychiatrists seem to think she is guilty about his death. Why can’t she remember the events leading up to that fateful cliff fall? Why wait till now for Matt to appear leaving cryptic clues? Why strange goings on at her home and more worryingly at her lawyers’ office where Aubrey’s erratic behavior is becoming increasingly noticeable?
And why can she suddenly hear everyone’s thoughts? Is Aubrey going insane like her Aunt Millie who died under mysterious circumstances or is there a more subtle influence directing her to a destiny beyond her understanding? Will Aubrey unravel the mystery and be able to fall in love again? Read this 5* romantic mystery to find out. You will not be disappointed – I wasn’t!

Once Upon Another Time tackles the subject of grief in a paranormal romance. This can be a difficult subject as we each handle grief in our own way.
The book is NOT a depressing book. I even laughed thru some sections. I liked the way the author did it within an engaging paranormal story... quite a novel idea.
A quick synopsis: The heroine, Aubrey McCory, an up and coming atty and single mother, loses her beloved husband, Matt, in a terrible accident.
The event is so distressing to her that she has no rememberance of the events surrounding his death; Counseling has not helped her to remember.
After the 7th anniversary of Matt's death, Aubrey beings to have paranormal episodes in which Matt appears to be visiting her and leaving items for her to see.
Aubrey meets a new guy, Gavin, a construction engineer/project manager. Gavin surprisingly reminds Aubrey of Matt in many ways.
The book started off great grabbing the reader's interest from the very beginning... then stalled... then picked up again at the end.
Perhaps it was just my reaction to the grief aspect. I was ready for Aubrey to move on before she was ready. :-)))
Overall, I would recommend this book. It reminds each of us that we each handle grief in our own way; you cannot rush a friend when they are dealing with grief.

This free book was unlike any other story that I have read. The plot was unique and I found myself captured in the events that unfolded as I got deeper into the story.

It is about a woman named, Aubrey McCory. When she was just twenty-eight years old and pregnant, she lost her husband, Matt, in a tragic accident which she can’t remember all the pieces to what exactly happens. Eight years later she feels that her husband is back from the dead haunting her. She is a very successful lawyer and those sorts of things just don’t happen to real life people, only in the movies. She doesn’t believe in that sort of thing but when he manifests right in front of her face at home – and even at work – she has to double think what she truly believes in. She meets Gavin un-expectantly and it was as if she had known him all her life. Aubrey feels like her deceased husband is trying to hook her up with Gavin but she doesn’t know why.

Without any spoilers I can leave it at that and say that you can read this book. It was a bit long but I enjoyed it. Not a DEFINITE recommendation but a recommendation nonetheless. It was a sweet story that makes you realize not to take things for granted. I don’t know what I would do if my husband had died when I was a few months pregnant. I really don’t want to think about those things, but people do go through that. How heartbreaking.

So disappointed in this story which just dragged on for me. First it seemed as though there were multiple errors in editing which is annoying. Second there was so much information that didn't need to be in the story. It's as if the author wanted to write a book of a certain length and then just added irrelevant stuff to make it that length. Thirdly the ending just plain sucked for me. There was no resolution of Aubrey's mixed up feelings.

Although this book tackles the issues surrounding grief, it is written in such a way that made me laugh - out loud, such was the talent of the author. It is extremely well-written (despite typos), promoting wonderful tone and style.

The characters were believable, as were the issues. It is a long book but certainly worth reading.

I don't give spoilers, but will say that this book is overflowing with humour, which helps the storyline of what could have been a depressing topic - a fun romance with a mysterious twist.

Highly recommended.

In this moving tale a deceased husband manages to contact his wife and helps her to move n with her life.
It is a beautifully told ghost story of sorts, spiritual in ways and certainly heart warming.
I liked the way the author is very careful in the way she handles the paranormal aspect without going into a deeper philosophical or even religious theory. The ghost is here to help, a chance to say one last farewell and encouraging the woman left behind to start living again.
An uplifting book with a few sub-plots and supporting characters to liven up the story.

Aubrey McCory is left devastated when the love of her life, Matt, tragically dies. She is left to bring up her son Nicholas alone and cannot move on. Aubrey blames herself for Matt's death even though she cannot remember the exact circumstances of his fateful accident. Gavin Donnelly accidentally meets Aubrey and falls in love her. This is a delightful love story with twists and turns. Can Aubrey find happiness after 7 years of loneliness. A book definitely worth a read.

There is so much descriptive writing and internal thoughts at times it makes it boring. I skimmed through long scenes that were pages after pages of either of both and still didn't lose track of anything important in the story. I prefer when there's more dialogue. The story is predictable. The ending ruins the entire book, thanks to the heroine assuming the worst and refusing to allow him to explain.

I really wanted to like this more as it sounded promising but there were quite a few spelling errors and, what I thought, poor editing. The ending seemed to leave it somewhat unresolved.

This book is only "ok". It was cute and sweet. It had a little humor, and a little romance, so it made me want to finish it, but at the same time....get to the point, already! The main character repeated herself so many times that after awhile, I started to know what she was going to say before she even started a new thought.

As a side note....the whole book revolved around her wondering and questioning as to if her new guy was really her old guy reincarnate, and yet at the end of the novel, she didn't tell the new guy. Interesting trickery, when halfway through the book, she was so mad at him for being dishonest at her...when he wasn't. What a way to start a new marriage.... kind of sent some mixed signals with that one...

This novel was a delight to read because it had wonderful, likeable characters and an uplifting theme of a woman's ability to overcome grief and to find true love again. This is a story of Aubrey, a lawyer, who is on a journey of self-discovery where she finally accepts she can go in life and find the essence of her lost soul mate, Matt, in another man, Gavin. This journey includes visits from her husband's spirit and interactions with loyal friends, a psychic, and an adorable son. At times, the story made me laugh, but there were also poignant moments I had tissues ready. It was an uplifting book!

This is a most unexpected romance story I have ever read and enjoyed every word.
Romance is not a genre I read a lot but the paranormal twist in the story-line was a pleasant and refreshing approach. The author handles the subject of loss and grief with sympathy yet the story is not a sad one, it is one of true love and about moving forward.
I particularly like how Aubrey, the main character, tries to deal with the loss of her husband and the conflicting emotions she has especially when years later she meets a man.
If you enjoy reading romance with a difference then I highly recommend this book.

I liked the idea and the mystery that she created around Matt's appearance but I felt too much unnecessary detail existed throughout the story. It reads as a 'chick lit' story mixed with a book about grief, for example, the part about Laura's love life. I have seen other authors try to do this and I find it quite annoying. I think they should to write one type of story and stick to the plot. Well written otherwise and if I felt the next book would be more focused I wouldn't mind reading her again.

This was a pretty good book. I had fun reading it, but don't know if I would go out of my way to read another one. I liked the idea behind the plot, but the story seemed to stutter along a bit. I don't feel like the court scenes really moved the story forward at all, and some of the transitions between the now and the flashbacks were a bit weak. There were times I wasn't sure if what I was reading was current or a memory. However, as I said, it was a fun and quick read.

I can't believe I picked up this title. It's probably one of the few times Listopia hasn't worked for me. Of course the whole jacket sounede promising with LOL moments. However, too much detail about a dead husband and a lack of a funny element completely in her and her friends situational drama turned me off. And how is keeping a dead chameleon as a possible GI Joe substitute for a 6 year old a sane call. EEEEW.

Was looking forward to reading this after I read the description but after I finished there was much left to be desired. Lots of things just left me confused and feeling like the book was unfinished. Millie? And what was up with Vanessa? What happened to aubrey "coming clean" with Gavin?

Quite a nice story. Very readable with an interesting concept and characters. Perhaps the misunderstanding between Aubrey and Gavin was a little too fabricated and could have been resolved easily, but otherwise the descriptions were lovely.
