The more Jigsaw Jones books I read to my special needs teen age son the more I really, really like them. The author not only writes the mystery that the story is for that particular book, but she also almost ALWAYS includes a book full title and author that Jigsaw's Dad reads to him at night and-or his teacher reads to the class. Giving the reader of this book and 'exposure' to other books and authors they may not even give a second thought to; hats off to you Mr Preller for doing this!

This story Jigsaw and his side kick Mila are hired to figure out who put slime in a gym sock; while they have a 'suspect' in mind they don't want to say he did it since he is their best friend. While they study the evidence then another 'crime' hits then another throwing them off their track of original thoughts... in the end they turn the 'gags' around onto the person doing it and he-she takes it in stride. AND because the end was such a shock to the kids they ask 'why' and the answer was to be 'fit in' but the kids tell them that they don't have to be silly, or loud or like someone else to just be themselves they like them just as they are. Again hats off Mr Preller for just filling this story with life lessons for these young readers but not 'being in their face' with that information!

Practical jokes abound (kids don't try this at home!) and it's up to Jigsaw and Mila to find out who the prankster is. Lots of fun, even if it's a little easy to figure out.

I am always a fan of books in a series for children because if they like one, they have plenty of options to continue reading. This series is not my favorite, though. The mystery was a little too simplistic, even for 2nd graders, and there was very little suspense and action. I did enjoy the internal dilemma of the main character having to confront his friend (this a realistic problem that occurs often between friends at this age and I love how the characters handled the situation), but otherwise, there are other series that I would recommend to my students.

It is very nice because I like mysteries. It is about a clown who tricks the kids in the story. So they trick the clown back.

This is book #12 in the Jigsaw Jones series of mysteries by James Preller. The stories are short and the mysteries are entertaining and this one was not scary at all. We have been reading these books completely out of order, but it doesn't seem to matter.

This was a fun tale about practical jokes. Our girls liked the different gags and the story was rather straightforward. It was a fun story to read aloud and we enjoyed reading it together.

Title: Jigsaw Jones and the Case of the Class Clown

Author: James Preller

Series: Jigsaw Jones #12

Rating: ★★

Summary: Athena Parker has been slimed! And she doesn't think it's funny. Someone in Ms. Gleason's class is playing practical jokes. And it's up to Jigsaw and Mila to catch the clown. This could be their stickiest case yet.

Review:

Things I Loved: I knew who it was! YES.

Things I Hated: I'm glad I figured it out, but the mystery was a little dull.

There is a mystery in Jigsaw Jones' school. There is some kind of jokester going around. There is pink food coloring in the fish tank, slime in someone's shoe, and there's even fake meat in Joey Pignatano's sandwich. Jigsaw Jones thinks Ralphie is the clown because he likes jokes and he always fools around in class. Jigsaw Jones finds out that it's Helen Zuckerman. She wanted to be funny because Ralphie was very popular because he was very funny.
