This was literally like therapy, but free. So, if you're thinking about making some serious changes in your life, have the need to start reconstructing the ways in which your mind filters thoughts and applies them.

Divided between five sections, Bonham-Carter offers various studies, anecdotes, and worksheets for the reader to work on. So much of it really did remind me of what I've been working on myself in therapy, so I found this to be a great reinforcement, especially as it suggests many different ways to begin anew and to start trying to really break displeasing thoughts to their bare bones.

Overall, certainly a good read, and well worth the time spent

I own an unlisted version. Why isn't the ISBN entered in here, Goodreads? I thought it wasn't in the system and tried to enter it, only to find that it existed, but the ISBN did not. Such a thing is both confusing and annoying. I digress, however.

"Self-Esteem: A Practical Guide" is a book by David Bonham-Carter. It shows a five-point system to improve your feelings of self-worth. I don't know why I bought this book. I think my self-esteem is adequate for my daily life, but I had a compulsion to buy books for a while, and this book was cheap. Self-help is one of my weaknesses, I suppose.

MJF Books published my copy, and the ISBN is 9781606713761 if anyone cares. Thanks for reading, and see you next time.

This book is perfect for those starting their mental health journeys. As someone who struggles with self-esteem issues, I found a lot of great tips to use. I was a bit nervous when starting my read when I saw that the author’s only credentials was being a “life coach”. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised to see his practical, comprehensive strategies on how to tackle self-esteem. However, as someone who has been in the mental health world for years, there wasn’t much I hadn’t already seen. His approaches were all pretty much the building blocks of CBT, so nothing was really insightful for me. But thats just me being stuck up and snobby! Overall, I’m glad I picked this book up and I would definitely recommend this for those who want an easy and helpful read!

Can be helpful

As a clinician, I read this book thinking I could use a tune up on activities i work on with clients. I'm glad to see in already doing a lot of what's discussed here, and I got some new ideas for topics and exercise soft a group I run. Easy to read and understand.

Most of the "Practical Guide" series is crap, but this one is excellent. It gets right to the point with no fluff, and actually IS practical. I was making notes constantly as I read, and was inspired to actually do the exercises. Very well planned and written.

A guide to self-empowerment

A lack of self-esteem can be that boogeyman that robs one of taking reasonable risk to achieve one's goals. This guide provides practical tools and shows how to apply them with examples from real life stories.
