#English Grammar books and me -- an unending love affair:

What makes this book exceptional, to begin with, is its comprehensive coverage. Azar’s text is exceptionally thorough, covering everything from fundamental grammatical concepts like verb tenses and articles to more complex structures such as passive voice and conditional sentences. The gradual advancement of topics ensures learners build a strong foundation before tackling advanced grammar. Secondly, another standout feature of the book is Azar’s aptitude to explain intricate grammar rules in simple, digestible language. The inclusion of charts and tables further aids understanding, making it an outstanding self-study tool. Each chapter is accompanied by numerous exercises designed to reinforce learning through practice. These range from fill-in-the-blanks to sentence transformations and writing prompts, catering to diverse learning styles. Lastly, unlike many grammar-focused texts, this book emphasizes practical usage in real-life situations. The communicative exercises inspire learners to apply their knowledge in speaking and writing, making it more than just a theoretical guide. We can safely conclude by saying that this tome is ideal for transitional to progressive learners aiming to refine their grammar skills. It is also an invaluable resource for English teachers, offering a wealth of examples and activities for classroom use. For complete beginners, it might be better paired with a simpler preliminary grammar text or additional guidance from an instructor.

The single most helpful book in my ESL training and grammar teaching repertoire. I first used this in a pedagogical grammar course in grad school and have used it (and several other books in the series) for something like twenty years. While Azar has her detractors, students love the easy-to-consult grammar tables and the plentiful exercises. A more recent edition contains the answer key in the back of the book, which is a particularly useful feature.

If you are someone who has acquired the language instead of studying it then I absolutely recommend this book to you.
In my case because I wasn't even familiar with the terminology, I wasn't able to just read the tables and the explainations within them, they wouldn't make sense to me. So what I did was resorting to an oldschool tedious method which is looking at the tables and writing the explainations down on paper.

This was the textbook we used for our TESL course. We went through it from cover to cover. For a native english speaker who acquired English without really learning the grammar rules, this book is a godsend. I have even used some of the activities in my advanced grammar classes - the students love the format (as do I). Everything is explained so well...it is the most useful (and used) book on my bookshelf. Love it!

as an English learner and a future English teacher who has been studying English for a very long time, I forgot some of the titles to some grammatical points. I decided to take a look at this book as a review to what I already know and want to be stabilized, so that I can recover the title to some grammatical points that I use unconsciously. I adored the organization and simplicity of this textbook and will suggest to different levels of English language learners.
