Physics and Beyond is a book by Werner Heisenberg, the German physicist who discovered the uncertainty principle. It tells, from his point of view, the history of exploring atomic science and quantum mechanics in the first half of the 20th century.

The subtitle is "Encounters and Conversations", and the core of the book takes the form of discussions between himself and other scientists. Heisenberg said: "I wanted to show that science is done by people, and the most wonderful ideas come from dialog".

The book provides a first-hand account about how science is done and how quantum physics, especially the Copenhagen interpretation, emerged. "Nobody can reproduce these conversations verbatim, but I believe that the spirit of what the people said, and how they did, is conserved," Heisenberg said in the preface.

Werner Heisenberg (AKA W. Heisenberg) was a German theoretical physicist who made foundational contributions to quantum mechanics and is best known for asserting the uncertainty principle of quantum theory. In addition, he made important contributions to nuclear physics, quantum field theory, and particle physics.

He won the 1932 Nobel prize in physics "for the creation of quantum mechanics, the application of which has, inter alia, led to the discovery of the allotropic forms of hydrogen".

در مسیر مطالعاتی هر کس ممکن است کتاب‌ها و چهره‌هایی حضور پیدا کنند که در عین دور بودن از زمینۀ مطالعاتی وی، توجه او را به خود جلب کنند. من اگر همیشه چشمی به هنر داشتم، چشم دیگرم همیشه به آسمان و قلمروی جذاب و گستردۀ علم بوده است. با کاوش در قلمروی علم، چهره‌هایی برایم عزیز و مقدس شده‌اند. هایزنبرگ نیز چنین است. دلیل علاقۀ من به این کتاب، سبک نوشتاری هایزنبرگ است. او در واقع خاطرات فشردۀ چند سال از عمر خود را که آبستن جنگ جهانی و بعد از آن شده با کشفیات و دغدغه‌های تخص خود آمیخته و در نهایت با توصیفات ادبی و تصویرسازی و گفتگوی دورنی و دیگر شگردها به نگارش درآورده است.
می‌توان دغدغۀ او و همکارانش را با دقت خواند و قضاوت کرد. به‌خصوص حسِ آن لحظه که آن‌ها در کارگاه‌هایشان مشغول کشف و علم‌ورزی بودند، در گوشۀ دیگر جهان هیروشیما می‌لرزید. حسِ دانشمندانِ آلمانی و سایر کشورها که به‌خاطر جنگ مجبور می شدند به آمریکا فرار کنند. کشفیات فیزیک جدید در گفتگوها و قدم‌زدن‌های بسیار معمولی و یا اردو در دامنۀ آلپ. و نهایتاً انسانی که در رویِ بد و متعارضِ جهان قرار گرفته است. هایزنبرگ به‌خوبی توانسته از عهدۀ بیان کردن تمامی این احساسات برآید.

آنگاه فون هولست ما را به اتاق نشیمن بزرگی بود که نور آفتاب از پنجره‌های بزرگ و باز به درون آن می‌تافت. در بیرون درختان سبز آلش زیر آسمان آبی دیده می‌شد و پرندگان پژوهشکده بال افشانی می‌کردند. فون هولست ویولای خود را آورد، بین دو پسر نشست و در نواختن سرناد بتهوون در د ماژور با ایشان همراه شد. این قطعه که از آثار جوانی بتهوون است لبریز از نیرو و نشاط است و ایمان به نظم کانونی در سراسر آن کمدلی و ماندگی را از بین می‌برد. در همان حال که گوش می‌کردم در این اعتقاد راسخ‌تر می‌شدم که اگر به میزان بشری بسنجیم، زندگی و موسیقی و علم همواره ادامه خواهد یافت، هرچند ما خود فقط مهمانانی دو روزه، یا به قول نیلس هم بازیگران و هم تماشاگرانی در نمایش بزرگ زندگی باشیم.: (ص 248)

One of the most pleasent surprises I had so far concerning a book, or a scientific book atleast.
I wanted to read this book mainly because I thought it would be instructive and heard a lot about him and his uncertainty principle in other books. It was instructive, but in a different way that I expected. Heisenberg really told a great story, not focusing on advanced physics notions but more on it's development in the first part of the 20th century and how difficult was to except the new idea of quantum mechanics.

The thing I liked the most about this book was the way it's written and how great voices of great personalities, such as Einsten, Bohr, Planck, are being heard in what the author tried to do: their own approximate words.

It is really great how men with this kind of profession can talk about etics and philosophy.
Also, a wonderful testimony about the nazi period, Hitler's rise to power and how they were forced to make difficult decisions.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a bit of knowledge about mathematics and such.

با اینکه زمان نسبتا زیادی از زمان مطالعه کتاب گذشته است، اما جذابیت دو بخش در خاطرم باقی مانده است. یکی بحثهای مربوط به ساخت بمب اتمی و مذاکراتی که دانشمندان آلمانی و امریکایی برای کنترل اخلاقی فرآیند در طول جنگ جهانی داشتند و پیچیدگی های آن که البته به شکست انجامید. مخصوصا چون زمان مطالعه در اوج بحران هسته ای ایران بود، شکننده بودن مذاکرات و فاصله اندک بین تصمیم گیری و عمل مخرب را به خوبی نشان میداد
دوم هم بحثهای بین فیزیکدانان در مورد دین بود که مخصوصا دیدگاههای متضاد و روش گفتگو بین آدمهایی با چنین سطح وسیع علمی و تسلط به ارتباط بین دانش تخصصی و مساله کلان تری مثل ارتباط علم و دین بسیار جالب بود. نگاههای متفاوت فیزیکدان جوانی که فکر کنم دیراک بود و روش پاسخ گویی فیزیکدانان پخته تر هم جذابیت فراوانی داشت. چیزی که بعدها باعث شد به کارهای دیوید بوهم در همین زمینه ها علاقه مند شوم

وقتی کتابدار کتاب را به دستم میداد و سرفصل ها از نظرم میگذشت فکر می‌کردم که انتظار منو بابت علمی بودنش و کنکاش راجع به فلسفه علم،برآورده میکنه
فکر میکنم کسایی که بیشتر از من از فیزیک سررشته داشته باشند بتونن لذت زیادی ازش ببرن ولی حداقل این کتاب به من به اون اندازه ای که فکر میکردم کمک نکرد
اگر هایزنبرگ سعی داشته به فلسفه علم و قوانین طبیعت نزدیک بشه کارش خیلی ناقص بوده چون چیز قابل توجه یا نتیجه گیری برای اخلاق یا فلسفه یا حتی علم پیدا نکردم و از نظر فلسفی کاملا بی سر و ته عمل کرده
ولی روون بودن کتابو نادیده نمیگیرم 👌🏻

قسمتی از زندگی هایزنبرگ و بیشتر در مورد تحول فیزیک در قرن بیستم. یک دانشمندی که اوایل زندگی‌اش به کشاورزی پرداخته و در اواسط زندگی‌اش مشغول مباحث فلسفی و فیزیک شده و در همان زمان ها هم بخاطر آلمانی بودنش و برخورد به جنگ‌جهانی دوم سر دوراهی ماندن یا نماندن می ماند و البته دیگر مسائلی که بشخصه ازشان خیلی لذت بردم! اگر ذره‌ای فیزیک برایتان ارزش دارد توصیه می‌کنم بخوانیدش!

Memoiren mag ich eigentlich überhaupt nicht. Schon die Idee, das eigene Leben autobiographisch festzuhalten, finde ich in den meisten Fällen tendenziell größenwahnsinnig und gleichzeitig schrecklich langweilig - gefüllt sind die Seiten (so meine Vorurteile) oft mit aufgeblasenen Egos und Verfälschungen der jeweiligen eigenen Geschichte, um retrospektiv besser dazustehen. Werner Heisenberg tappt mit Sicherheit hier und da auch in diese Fallen (oft klingt er wahnsinnig selbstgefällig, sogar wenn er rückblickend Fehler eingesteht) und doch war für mich „Der Teil und das Ganze“ aus zwei Gründen ein absoluter Gewinn.

Erstens bietet es, zumindest für Laien wie mich, eine hervorragende Einführung in die Geschichte der Quantenmechanik und teilweise der Physik allgemein - einfach und anschaulich geschrieben und selten langweilig.

Zweitens handelt es sich hier um ein ungemein interessantes historisches Dokument, welches, aus der Sicht eines jungen gebildeten Mannes, den Wandel seines Umfelds von einem global vernetzten, wissenschaftlich progressiven hin zu einem nationalistisch regressiven beschreibt. Bis zu Kapitel 11 (1933) scheint es dem jungen Heisenberg kaum möglich, diesen Wandel in irgendeiner Form vorherzusehen - viel zu optimistisch und weltoffen ist die akademische Bubble, in der er sich tagtäglich bewegt und von der er fälschlicherweise auf die restliche Gesellschaft schließt. Sehr viel aufmerksamer ist da offenbar Niels Bohr, der Heisenberg schon in Kapitel 4 (1922) auf den blinden Fleck in seiner Wahrnehmung in Bezug auf das politische Potential in Deutschland hinweist. Im Gegensatz zu Heisenberg gehört Bohr nicht der Deutschen Mehrheitsgesellschaft an und kann sich sein politisches Desinteresse schlicht nicht leisten.

Heisenbergs große (selbst eingestandene) Fehleinschätzung der historischen Situation und seiner gewichtigen Position darin führt letztendlich über Umwege mit zum Bau und Abwurf der amerikanischen Atombombe und ihn zu der Erkenntnis, dass auch Wissenschaft sich einer politischen Verantwortung niemals entziehen darf.

Allen Beschwichtigern der heutigen Zeit empfehle ich dringend die Lektüre solcher zeitgeschichtlichen Berichte - global vernetzte Akademiker und eine progressive Diskussionskultur boten damals keinen Schutz vor Faschismus und bieten ihn auch heute nicht.

خاطرات و مباحث هایزنبرگ از فیزیک، فلسفه و سیاست. قسمت هایی از کتاب که به فیزیک مربوط میشد خیلی برای من دلچسب نبود

نیوتن: من نمیدانم که نظر جهانیان در مورد من چیست، اما در چشم خودم کودکی بیش نیستم که در ساحل مشغول بازی است و هر از چندگاه یکبار از یافتن مهره ای صافتر یا صدفی زیباتر مشعوف میشود و در همان حال اقیانوس عظیم حقیقت، کشف نشده، پیش چشم او گسترده است

و هایزنبرگ: زندگی، موسیقی و علم همواره ادامه خواهد یافت، خرچند ما خود فقط مهمانی دو روزه یا بقول نیلس هم بازیگران و هم تماشاگرانی در نمایش بزرگ زندگی باشیم.

Quelle lecture passionnante !

Ce livre est une autobiographie "intellectuelle" de Heisenberg. Il y retrace donc son parcours intellectuel, les grandes réflexions qui l'ont fait avancer. Il s'agit de la première autobiographie de ce type que je lis, et je n'en suis pas déçue ! Certes, il manque des événements que toute personne s’intéressant à la physique connaît : le Nobel en 1932, le cinquième congrès Solvay en 1927. Ce sont des dates clés que Heisenberg n'évoque pas, ou très rapidement : par exemple, le congrès Solvay dans le chapitre Premières discussions sur la relation entre science et religion dans lequel il relate une discussion entre Wolfgang Pauli, Paul Dirac, et lui-même. Que dit-il à propos du congrès en lui-même ? Absolument rien. Et cela n'est pas gênant, parce que ce n'est pas Wikipédia que nous lisons. L'évolution intellectuelle d'une personne est cent fois plus intéressante qu'un catalogue de dates.

C'est un livre que chaque personne qui s'adonne à l'étude des sciences se doit de lire. Il allie plusieurs disciplines, à savoir : physique, mathématiques, philosophie, politique, histoire... La variété des sujets traités invite constamment à continuer sa lecture.

De plus, Heisenberg étant une figure centrale de la mécanique quantique, il incarne l'évolution même de la physique pendant une grande partie du XXème siècle. Nous assistons à travers ce livre à plusieurs avancées scientifiques majeures, et à des discussions passionnantes entre de grands chercheurs (Bohr, Einstein, Rutherford...). Ce livre fait également référence à d'autres théories et concepts d'incontournables penseurs et savants tels que Platon, Kant, Schrödinger, Planck, Lorenz...

L'écriture est simple et claire. Toutefois, certains passages sont plus difficiles à comprendre puisqu'ils font appel à des connaissances que tous les lecteurs n'ont pas forcément, notamment en physique et philosophie.

This is an amazing book. Heisemberg is one of the scientists right that were right in the middle of the quantum physics revolution. He shares with his the readers the works of scientists, the difficulties they had to overcome, and how those theories took form. But that’s not all. He also renders his unique views of a mad world, consumed by wars and intolerance. And you need no background in physics at all to appreciate it. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Existen muchos libros sobre la figura de Heisenberg, pero sin duda para todos aquellos que le interese la historia de la física leer directamente a uno de los mas grandes físicos es algo imprescindible porque Heisenberg no solo nos habla de física en este libro, nos habla de sus fundamentos filosóficos (bastante intrincados por momentos); además siempre se ha especulado del papel que jugó en la carrera por la fabricación de la bomba atómica así que que mejor que leer las reflexiones del protagonista que desde dentro del nazismo vio como esa monstruosidad crecia y se llevaba todo por delante

Story of discovery and development of Quantum theory written in a form of autobiography of Heisenberg.
This book is a part of series called “World Series” which invited scholars who joined intellectual and spiritual movement of helping the world to be perceived through critical thinking.

Heisenberg himself is one of the most prominent figures in theoretical physics and quantum mechanics development. However his decision to stay in Germany during the WWII made the world /especially Americans including Oppenheimer/ left suspicious of his motives. In his own words, he told the story of how he consulted with Max Planck and decided to stay for the future of the country where good hearted scientists would be help rebuilding after the war, while keeping the enemy close (Nazis) and slowing down the process of atomic bomb building ordered by the Nazis. He and his team managed not build one for the good of humanity and was shocked by the Hiroshima bombing news. Otto Hahn /discovered uranium enrichment/ was horrified by the creation of mass destruction weapon only later to understand discovery and innovation are greatly different. During war time, scientists’ were hugely troubled by ethical conundrums, many fell ill in depression.

In this book, the reader will learn and read in person conversations shared with greatest thinkers in human history.. frequent with Niels Bohr, Otto Hahn, Max Born, Max Planck, Wolfgang Pauli, Einstein, Paul Dirac, Erwin Schrödinger, Ernst Rutherford, Hans Euler, Enrico Fermi all taking place in infamous Göttingen, Leipzig, Zurich and Munich.

A historical document of prime importance well written with coherence and reads like a novel.

کتاب روایت زندگی علمی ورنر هایزنبرگ، فیزیکدان آلمانی، و دیدگاه ها و نگرش های او راجع به تحولات علمی و سیاسی در نیمه اول قرن بیستم است. همچنین برخی از گفتگوهای او با دانشمندانی چون آینشتاین، بور، پائولی، رادرفورد، و شخصیت هایی سیاسی چون آدنائور را در بر می گیرد که در بستری نسبتا داستانی روایت می شوند. هایزنبرگ کوشیده است کتاب را از درغلطیدن به ورطه ای که کتاب های علمی را به خواندنی های ملال آوری تبدیل می کنند بپرهیزد و به همین دلیل روایت خود را با توصیف هایی از مناظر طبیعی شهرهای مختلف آلمان و گاه برخی از شهرهای دانمارک و سوئد آکنده است. گاه گفتگوهایی که حول مباحث علمی - فیزیکی می گردند بسیار شیرین و شیوا بیان شده اند اما گاهی بحث بسیار پیچیده می شود، به طوری که آدم ناچار می شود در اینترنت جستجو کند و نظریه کوانتومی و نظریه نسبیت را کمابیش بشناسد. اما یک ویژگی بسیار مهم تفکر هایزنبرگ، توجه او به افلاطون و مسئله ساختار بنیادی واقعیت در رساله ی تیمایوس است. هایدگر گفته هایزنبرگ فلسفی تفکر می کنه و چیزی فیلسوفی تراز اول کم نداره. این ویژگی در رویکرد او به فیزیک و نظریه کوانتوم آشکاره.
اما یک نکته برای من روشن نیست: نظریه عدم تعین هایزنبرگ چه ربطی به آزادی اراده داره؟ ظاهرا آینشتاین با این نظریه مخالفه و ادعا می کنه که خدا تاس نمی ندازه. آینشتاین به عبارت دیگه موجبیت انگاره و هایزنبرگ قائل به عدم موجبیته. اما حرف من اینه: به فرض که نظریه عدم تعین یا عدم قطعیت در مقیاس زیراتمی اثبات بشه. این چه ربطی به آزادی اراده انسان داره؟ اولا مگر اراده انسان امری مادی است (اگر هایزنبرگ ویژگی های زیر اتمی ماده رو غیر مادی و مجرد بدونه، که ظاهرا می دونه، اونوقت یه مشکل دیگه پیدا میشه: چگونه اموری مجرد منجر به اموری مادی می شوند؟) ثانیا، همونطور که هایزنبرگ هم اذعان می کنه، فیزیک نیوتنی کماکان در مقیاس ماکروسکوپی صدق می کنه و در این مقیاس با عدم اعین روبرو نیستیم. بنابراین انسان هم که در مقیاس ماکروسکوپی قرار داره در حیطه فیزیک علی - معلولیه نیوتونی قرار داره.
البته حرف اصلیه من اینه که اراده مجرده ولی واقعیت مجرد نیست. حتی مقیاس زیر اتمی هم با واقعیت ساخته شده نه با امور مجرد. هرچند ظاهرا بور و هایطنبرگ گرایش به این دارند که بگن خواص زیراتمی اشیا با خواص فرااتمی اونها فرق داره و اطلاق اصطلاح "شی" به ذرات زیراتمس درست نیست، تا جایی که باید یک زبان تازه برای بحث درباره فیزیک کوانتوم شکل بگیره. اما آیا از تفاوت ذاتی خواص زیراتمی با خواص فرااتمی، میشه نتیجه گرفت که اولی مادی و دومی مجرده؟ لایب نیتس هم با مسیله ای مشابه طرف بود، برای او مونادها اتم هایی روحانی و بی وزن و بی استقامت بودن. از توده مونادها اجسام پدید می آن اما اجسام برای لایب نیتس پدیدارند نه ماده یا مادی.

کسی که می خواد این کتابو بخونه، اول تیمایوس رو بخونه، بعد یکم با نظریه نسبیت آینشتاین و نظریه کوانتومی و به ویژه نظریه عدم تعین هایزنبرگ آشنا بشه.
من دو سه ساعت تو اینترنت مطالعه کردم ولی هنوز به بیان منسجمی از این دو نظریه، البته در حد خیلی خیلی کلی و به زبان ساده، دست پیدا نکردم. ناچارم یه کتاب تخصصی بخونم، البته اگر بخونم.

Most of the grownups I knew in childhood had been in WWII, Dad serving in both theatres, Mom and most other relatives having lived in occupied Norway. Further, childhood occurred during the Cold War. Not a day passed from, say, age ten without thoughts of sudden death in an atomic exchange. Concurrently, with intellectual development, first in the sciences, then in the humanities and social sciences, I found myself ever-more at home with German science, German literature and German culture. Indeed, the family name was Saxon, traced back to a certain Johannes who was made a count (a "graf")in Electoral Saxony in the sixteenth century.

Naturally, then, when we in PHYS 105 (physics for non-physicists) at Grinnell College were assigned to read Heisenberg's explicatory apologetic for his involvement in nuclear physics during the Nazi period in Europe, I was much drawn into the text and enjoyed the read, particularly the autobiographical and political portions of it.

چقدر خوب بود این کتاب واقعا عاشق نویسندش شدم . نویسندش هایزنبرگ فیزیکدان مشهور آلمانی که از نظریه های مشهورش همون اصل عدم قطعیت هایزنبرگه که تو این کتاب میاد زندگی نامش رو خیلی عالی بیان میکنه از وقتی که میخواد بره دانشگاه و دنبال رشته ای میگرده که تمام سوالات ذهنش رو ارضا کنه و به فیزیک روی میاره . از بهترین قسمت هایی که تو این کتاب خوشم اومد این بود که تو کلاس بغل دستی هایزنبرگ وولفانگ پائولی بوده . ( ببین چی میشه وقتی بغل دستت پائولی نشسته و کنارش داری درس میخونی ) . و اون یکی هم این بود که با استادش(یه جورایی) بور میرفته کوه نوردی .
خیلی خیلی دوست داشتم کتاب رو درواقع کتابیه که ذهن آدم رو روشن میکنه در برابر رشته فیزیک

One of the most interesting books I've read, booth from a historical and scientific perspective. Heisenberg describes his and his collegues work through what he remembered from their dialogues, which makes the book more interesting, as alternate views are always presented. If you're interested in history, quantum physics and philosophy this book is a must read! Fortunate for me it's translated into swedish: Delen och helheten.

Voor geschiedenis en filosofie zou ik het boek alleen al 5 sterren geven , en als men wat interesse heeft voor atoom werking ( meer een aanvulling ) dan zal men wellicht plezier beleven aan dit boek , … en ergens ook niet , … net als bij mijn vorig boek chimpansee politiek wordt ik wat bedroefd over de impulsen in de mens , …. Oorlog voeren , voor wat ? , eer en glorie , God en klein Pierke, … , tegen wat ? Balken in ogen en te diepe zakken , ? Het lijkt er wat ingebakken te zitten , om wat moedeloos van te worden , de eerste en vooral de tweede wereldoorlog worden besproken , bediscussieerd in het boek en doet nadenken over de werking en het waarom ervan , met aanvullende filosofie over natuurkundige ontdekkingen en het leven zelf , ….. er wordt veel gewandeld , gezeild, in de natuur doorgebracht door de natuurkundigen met boeiende gesprekken ,
Het boek deed me ook wat nadenken over vanalles bv denkprocessen , ..
In het boek kwam voor dat ongeveer 4 % van fotonen wordt teruggekaatst door glas , men kan niet voorspellen welke dat zouden zijn , …. Op de achtergrond hoorde ik muziek. 96 tears , …..
Denkprocessen lijken puntjes die dan golven worden en die dan mss een spiraal structuur aannemen
De ruimte die zichzelf bestudeert , … maar niet helemaal begrijpt , …
5 sterren meer een filosofie/ geschiedenis boek dan natuurkunde , boeiend .

Opet mi je postalo jasno kako je beskrajno teško odbaciti predstave koje su dotad važile za nas kao osnova mišljenja i naučnog rada. Ajnštajn je svoje životno delo posvetio istraživanju onog objektivnog sveta fizikalnih zbivanja koji napolju, u prostoru i vremenu, protiče nezavisno od nas, po čvrstim zakonima. Matematički simboli teorijske fizike trebalo je da preslikaju taj objektivni svet i samim tim omoguće predskazivanja o njegovom budućem ponašanju. A sada se tvrdilo da - ako se spustimo do atoma - takvog objektivnog sveta u prostoru i vremenu uopšte nema i da matematički simboli teorijske fizike slikaju samo ono što je mogućno, a ne ono što je stvarno. Ajnštajn nije bio spreman da dopusti da mu se tlo izmakne pod nogama. I docnije u životu, kada je kvantna teorija već odavno postala čvrsto utvrđen sastavni deo fizike, on nije mogao da izmeni svoje stanovište. Kvantnu teoriju je hteo da uvaži kao privremeno, ali nipošto kao konačno razjašnjenje atomskih pojava. "Bog se ne kocka" - to načelo bilo je za Ajnštajna nepokolebljivo utvrđeno i on nije dopuštao da ga iko uzdrma. Bor je na to mogao samo da odgovori: "Ipak nije naš zadatak da Bogu pripisujemo kako da upravlja svetom". (91)

یه اتوبیوگرافی فوق العاده بود.پر از اندیشه ها و چالش های واقعی در اندیشه (چیز کمیابی در فضای اندیشه ای امروز جامعه ما) .هایزنبرگ در زمان و موقعیت مهمی در قرن20 م زندگی میکرده و با خوانش او میتونید پی به راز های مهمی درباره تغییرات علم و جامعه و اندیشه در جامعه آلمان و غرب آن روز و تاثیر این تحولات تا به امروز ببرید.
اگر میخواهید بدانید فلسفه علم به خصوص در حوزه فیزیک چه کاری انجام میدهد یا اندیشه چه تاثیری بر فیزیک میگذارد این را بخوانید.خواندن کتاب رو به همه کسایی که قصد تاثیر گذاری در فضای علمی یا اندیشه ای یا اجتماعی رو دارن توصیه میکنم . تنها مورد تقریبا منفیش اینه که فهم بعضی نکات معرفتی بیان شده مشروط به فهم شما از فیزیکه و البته تا حد امکان ساده بیان شده!
و مانا ترین جمله کتاب در ذهنم به صورت نقل به مضمون اینه که :
تغییرات باید تدریجی باشند وگرنه با تباهی های بسیار رو به رو میشویم گویا همواره دو انتخاب داریم :خوبی اند اندک یا شر کثیر!

Сказать о Вернере Гейзенберге - ученый, конечно же, недостаточно. Интеллектуал, мыслитель, созерцатель, исследователь, философ и ученый. К мысли очень внимателен, строг, сосредоточен и точен, в тексте доступен, интересен, ровен и чист. Ни пафоса, ни удрученности. Помимо размышления о физике и философии, заявленных в названии, пусть и в нескольких абзацах, но все же замечательно говорит об искусстве, религии, вере и традиции. Безупречен.

شاید اگر یه کم سواد فیزیکی من بیشتر بود ۵ ستاره می‌دادم ولی برای من دنبال کردن یه قسمتی از بحث‌ها که خیلی تخصصی بود سخت بود
در حاشیه‌ی روایت زندگی و تحول فیزیک اتمی بحث‌های فلسفی و اجتماعی که مطرح میشن خیلی جالب هستن
این که دانشمندان در گذشته خیلی چند بعدی‌تر بودن و به ارتباطات کلی‌تر فکر می‌کردن و ارتباطات گسترده بین خفن‌ترین‌هاشون بوده هم برام جالب بود

این کتاب که توسط فیزیکدان بزرگی نوشته شده، لحظات شیرینی رو با روایت روان و صادقانه‌ی خودش برای من به ارمغان آورد. بحث‌ درمورد دغدغه‌هایی که آدم‌ها معمولا باهاش درگیر هستند، اون هم از زبان بزرگای فیزیک اتمی خیلی جالب بود.

A kvantummechanika megismerésével az emberiség olyan tudás birtokába került a 20. században, amely alapjaiban rengette meg azt a képet, ahogy a világot addig elképzeltük. Heisenberg egyike volt a kvantumvilág felfedezőinek, írása pedig saját szemszögéből mutatja be ezt a folyamatot. Bepillantást enged a teljesség és pontosság igénye nélkül a kor legragyogóbb elméjű fizikusaival folytatott beszélgetéseibe, melyek végül megalapozták a modern fizikát.

первая половина чистое удовольствие.
забавно, аргументация их тогдашних споров о религии, особенно дираковская, практически нетронутой переехала в сегодняшние срачи в интернетах. казалось бы, за семьдесят лет можно бы и что-то новое придумать, но нетъ.

с появлением же описаний работы на немецкую оборонку, войны и этой самой... денацификации — возникает ощущение, что у автора за спиной стоит американский спецслужбист ("интегрировай", ага) и контролирует, что тот пишет и в каком тоне.

в целом, интересно, и неожиданно очень доступная манера изложения, может быть даже излишне

The author takes us through the most important conversations of his life.Conversations with people ranging from members of the German Youth movement,eminent contemporary physicists,philosophers & even politicians.The concerned topics span the arts,religion,metaphysics,philosophy,nature(in the most general sense),consciousness,language,politics and of course,atomic physics.The book is also semi-autobiographical though the focus is always on the conversation & the various views presented via the conversation.


All these conversations contain in them a very elaborate & deep understanding of the topics they touch upon.Needless to say,this is a treasure trove for anyone interested to know how some of the greatest physicists of the 20th century interacted with each other,where they differed & how the World war affected them.I would argue that even otherwise this book can supply enough enjoyment to a person not so interested in physics or mathematics.

This book is like a great excursion into the thoughts and fundamentals of Science & other ancillary/complementary schools of thoughts.


P.S.: The author also does a great job of translating the scenic beauty of the locations where the various conversations took place,into words.

Highly recommend this book.

This autobiography by one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics is a gem. It uses an unconventional style, heavy on fabricated dialog, to get straight to the matters at the heart of Heisenberg's life. In the early chapters the author finds his way into the world of physics and grapples with the still-unsolved questions of the atom and nucleus, along the way meeting and befriending the giants of the time: Einstein, Bohr, Planck, Pauli, Dirac. But then, as the narrative enters the 1930s, things take a melancholy turn as the German physics community either chooses to or is forced to flee Nazi Germany. Heisenberg chooses to remain and to work in Hitler's atomic research program. In this book he frankly and openly discusses his decisions of the time and their fortuitous outcome—that Germany never got close to making a bomb, and that he was on the ground to help the country rebuild after.

The book gives frank and honest insight from a man who was at the center of scientific and political history in the 20th Century. It does not necessarily give much overview, so a basic background in the history of atomic physics and the major political events of the last century are needed in order to fully appreciate it.
