i read the boy from the burren. then i reread it. about six times. i love that book. they characters are so different from one another and so life-like, the story is compelling and non-formulaic. i've read a LOT of fantasy, so stuff that follows too much of a pattern is boring to me. the boy from the burren was a welcome change. so i went searching for anything else i could fine by the author. this was a mistake. i'm still willing to check out the other books of the painter, but man has sheila improved as a writer since she started! this book and it's sequals are everything that is boring to me about fantasy. solutions to problems get found too easily, characters personalities never really get flushed out. this book was an utter disappointment.
