Der Professor, der Friseur und ein Hochzeitsdate ... Tommy Hilfe!
Lane Hayes loves a good romance! She’s the bestselling author of the Out in College, Starting From, Better Than, A Kind Of, Right and Wrong, and Leaning Into Series! Lane loves red wine, chocolate and travel (in no particular order). All things she can find in sunny SoCal where she lives with her amazing husband in a not quite empty nest.
Short & sweet, packed full of feels and sexy action, Tommy and Noah's story is a breath of fresh air.
Who knew buttoned-up Tommy is such a dominant beast in bed?
And Noah, with his sparkle and glitter, is hiding a vulnerable heart. Never feeling like he's quite enough, despite being a talented artist and superb athlete, Noah doesn't believe he's anyone's long-term plan.
But Tommy disagrees and fights for Noah tooth and nail.
"You're so ... extraordinary - the brightest star in my universe. You are my sunrise, my moonset, my most complex equation, and the only solution."
Opposites attract, naughty and nice, 90/10 on feel-good/angst, plus a true HEA for the MCs, make this fifth standalone Script Club book a perfect summer read.
Again, this is a different side of Lane Hayes, and I’m just simply enjoying the ride!
This time around you’ve still got the requisite nerdy science guy in Thomas, who doesn’t want a makeover for his sister's upcoming nuptials but finds himself forced against his will to do so. When Thomas meets his hairdresser Noah, sparks fly immediately, and of course an arrangement is made for fashion and dating tips with a little fun in between.
Noah isn’t your typical jock (no bi-awakening needed here), and though he’s had some serious setbacks and has fought hard to get his life back in order, he’s not going to say no to some sexy extracurricular activities regardless of his resolve to stay commitment free. Noah’s all in to enjoy the time he has with Thomas in making him “presentable”, and Thomas is more than willing to acquiesce.
This continues to be narrated by Alexander Cendese, and he brings to life these characters (despite the absence of distinct characterizations), perfectly embodying both these men with equal adorable fervor and lusty appeal!
I dare you to NOT be charmed silly by a clumsy straightforward, makes-no-apologies, professor and the out and proud former jock who likes his loving on the bossy side! Simply put, this was another win for this smile inducing fun-tablulous series!
Thank you to the author for the audio in exchange for an honest review
Brief summary Tommy (a nerdy professor) has to get a makeover to attend a family event. He goes to get his hair cut by Noah and they end up hanging out and falling in love with each other.
I always look forward to picking up the books in this series because they are always a super cute and enjoyable reading experience for me and the same happened with this one. I had such a good time reading this book because it was the cutest thing I read in a while. I couldn’t help but swoon and want to yell “aww” at the top of my lungs almost every times that the main characters interacted in this book, due to how cute I found their interactions to me.
I really liked the relationship progression in this one. I liked how we got to see their first few awkward conversations and how they got to know together. I really liked how the book showed them falling for each other a little more through the times that they spent together. It was cute to read about all the moments they had together and I really enjoyed that part of the book.
Also, Tommy and Noah just had the best relationship to me. I loved how they always cheered each other. I loved how supportive of each other they were. I loved how they interacted, their interactions were just so cute and they kept bringing the biggest smile to my smile.
This book was just so sweet and it was exactly what I needed at this time in my life. This was such a fun reading experience and I really enjoyed it.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
I absolutely adored this romance, it had everything that makes me happy in book form.
Two beautifully crafted characters with real vulnerability and a cautious approach to making a relationship work.
It's part of the excellent Script Club series so you should expect a fabulous nerd & jock extravaganza of humour, sexy times which blow the roof off and a perfect pairing of two men who bring out the best in each other.
Also this cover is perfect!
#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR in return for an honest and unbiased review
Sweet, albeit a bit predictable nerd/jock romance.
Although, to be fair, Noah isn’t really a jock. He works as a hair stylist, creates glittery clothes, and he plays soccer in his free time. I really enjoyed reading about a stylist for a change, especially considering that he fell in love with is a nerdy phd student/professor.
Said professor is called Thomas, and he’s in desperate need of new glasses, a haircut, new clothes and a date for his sister’s wedding. And despite the differences, Noah and Tommy are attracted to each other.
What I loved: both characters were adorable: Noah with his glittery fabulousness, hiding his past demons behind a cheery demeanor, and Tommy with his tendency to ramble about random science facts. And I loved how their relationship started a bit awkward, only to quickly turn into friendship. And then into more.
What felt a bit off: Tommy is a nerd with little to no social skills, yet he’s an accomplished lover with dom tendencies? I didn’t really get the impression that he’s had boyfriends or even hookups before.
And what really annoyed me: the breakup at precisely 80%, not because they fought, but because Noah decided he’s not good enough for Tommy. And the way they made up afterwards (seriously Tommy? You bought all the soccer gear just to go and play a game you’ve never played before because you couldn’t think of another way to get hold of Noah? 🙄)
Overall though it was cute, and sweet, and fluffy. I’ll rate it with 3.5 stars, generously rounded up to 4 because I couldn’t give Noah less then that 🥰
Noah and Thomas were a match no one would see coming but they really complimented each other. This story made my heart happy.
Noah helps Thomas with a mini makeover. Their chemistry is instant and hot. What starts out as a mild flirtation turns into a hot encounter. Both are unsure about a relationship but fall into one anyway.
There is not too much angst but there is some family drama and a bit of homophobic violence off page.
Noah is a very sweet jock that’s perfect for the sexy and geeky professor. Loved this book!
I left reviewing this too long. Can't recall much of the story although I finished it just 4 days agk. I remember I liked the book well enough, the main characters were sweet. 3,5 - 4 stars.
This was absolutely delightful, I couldn't get enough of it.
This is this strongest work by this author in quite awhile, in my opinion. Tommy and Noah just clicked on every level. The chemistry was spot on and firing at every turn, I never got bored of this or this couple, I was 100% invested until the end, and any drama that there was between them made sense and didn't feel manufactured.
Tommy is one of the Script Club, and is of course very nerdy, but also very quiet and unconcerned with his appearance. His hair is too long and his glasses are broken twice over, and his wardrobe is pretty plain.
When his twin sister, who is the complete opposite, complains about how he looks and wants him to look better for her wedding coming up in a few months, at first Tommy completely ignores her.
But when Jase, who is Sam's ex - Sam being the jock from the previous book and Chet being the nerd who is now married to Sam - comes to pick up Lincoln, their son, while Tommy is over for all the gents to have their script club, he sees how bad and out of control Tommy's hair has gotten, and so makes an appointed with him the following Saturday, as Jase is a hairdresser.
But when the day comes, Jase can't take him, so Noah takes him instead.
Noah is somewhat of a jock, but he breaks the stereotype in the way he looks. He puts some minimal make-up - such as blue eyeliner - and some glitter on his cheeks and some lip gloss, and Tommy doesn't peg him for a jock.
But when a kerfuffle at the end of Tommy's hair appointment ensues, Noah accidentally steps on Tommy's already battered glasses, and breaks them, and Tommy's eyesight is bad without them, so he offers to help get him superglue to glue them together to tide him over until he can get new ones.
And while they're at his car - because Noah thinks he might have superglue in a bag in his car, which he turns out not to have - Tommy sees he has a soccer ball and it turns out Noah used to play, he even played pro for a little bit before something happened that we don't find out till later.
As they get the superglue, they also get coffee and talk and talk, and there's just that spark between them. By the end of their non-date (which is totally a date lbr), they end up kissing and it didn't even feel rushed to me. They just already had such a great connection that the kiss felt natural.
I also loved how this switch the script - hehe - so to speak, and had Tommy be the more dominant top and Noah be the submissive bottom. I loved it. And I also love when the jocks are the tops, I adore it, but I do love it the other way around too. Tommy really let his walls down during sex and where he was more the awkward nerd outside the bedroom who had a hard time socializing with people, he was confident and sexy in bed.
I just loved this story and the love story between these two. There's some drama near the end, but it didn't feel manufactured at all to me. Noah went through some horribly shitty stuff and he's never really quite recovered from it, and has a hard time believing he's worthy of Tommy. He is, it just takes some time for him to see that.
I highly recommend this one. It's safe to say that that it's my favorite of this series so far. And I've adored at least one other in this series, so that is saying something.
Just yes, absolutely read this one. It was just perfect for me <3 Can't wait to read the next one! (which, I think we're finally getting Holden's book, with Ezra, one of two jocks that move in Tommy and Holden in the absence of all the other nerds who have found their SO already and have moved out).
I read 60% of this yesterday and spent all day today trying to remember if I was reading something or not. When I finally got a chance to pick it back up, I finally remembered what was going on. Take that as you will
I say it every time but this one is definitely my favourite in the series. I adore Tommy and Noah, would happily read more books just about these two 💜
I am...more than pleasantly surprised. Positively, very much surprised.
This is the first book in the series that has depth, amazing spice and an actual, tangible plot. It makes sense. And it's pretty darn good.
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. What a freaking surprise. Who would have thought?? This was HOT! Spicy, romantic, sensual, you name it.
Tommy is a very attractive (but doesn't know it), nerdy professor, living at the old house with Holden, Ezra and Cole; he's finishing his PhD and teaching astrophysics. He meets Noah, who works at the hair salon with Jase, Sam's ex (last book). Noah is the kind of guy that wears an eye-liner, lip gloss and glitter. He's also a soccer player and in general a sweet, nice guy.
They have instant chemistry and both open up to each other. In this book the development of the love story was actually believable. Both mc's are pretty great guys and they have a really good, mature relationship.
The epilogue ends with them buying the house where all the nerds used to live and of course, living together.
I loved this book and I'm glad I gave it a shot.
I am completely, totally interested in Holden and Ezra. My god, that's gonna be a good one! The book comes out in 2 days!
It’s a common refrain when a new book in a series comes out to say ‘this one is my favourite’, but it can’t be helped in this case. Looking back I realize now I liked the other characters but Tommy blows them all away.
This book is so flirty and fun. It does have deep moments and some serious topics, but overall these two banter and flirt and are awkwardly sweet. I love how they are both assertive and outgoing in their own rights, and yet, also shy and nervous in other ways. Talk about complimentary. Often one character is the ‘broken’ one, and the other helps them love again, but in this case, they both bring out the best in each other and give strength to heal their past hurts.
I also loved that though neither is really into the other’s passions, Tommy is a science nerd and Noah is Soccer playing hairstylist, they both want nothing more than to hear all about them. They are 100% invested in the other and what makes them happy. It’s utterly charming.
When I bought this book i didn't realize it's part of a series, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it.
I'd have hard time telling one thing I liked. In my opinion both the main characters and the plot were so over stereotypied and cringe worth that I couldn't enjoy it.
For me, picking up a book by Lane Hayes is like coming home after a long day at work. There's comfort in it. Safety. I credit Him by Sarina Bowen as my first dalliance with M/M romance and the book that started the fire in me, but it was Lane Hayes' Starting From series that turned that fire into an inferno. Yes her books tend to be formulaic and predictable, but her characters win me over every single time and that's exactly what happened with this book. I adored both Noah and Tommy so much. This might actually be my favorite book of this series so far.
Noah was a surprising character. He had stereotypes that subverted his other stereotypes. I was confused when I read the blurb because the words "jock" and "hairstylist" used to describe the same person did not compute. His multitudes contained multitudes and I loved how it challenged my perceptions. Tommy was also a study in contrasts. He had a dominant side, but seemed hesitant to wield it most of the time. I absolutely love it when the "nerd" in the story has some restrained prowess hidden beneath their intelligence, social awkwardness and ill-fitting clothes and that was 100% Tommy. The two of them together should have made very little sense, but I loved them for each other and their story was really freaking cute.
I was worried at first that this book would go the way of She's All That, with a nerd turned heartthrob by way of a complete makeover, but that was not this story. Noah helped Tommy with his clothes but was respectful of Tommy's comfort zone and didn't try to turn him in to something he wasn't. Not that Tommy would have let him, but still. In turn, Tommy was surprised to find out that Noah played soccer but never held it against him or judged him for it. I loved how interested in each other they were and that the traditional opposing forces of their personalities were actually the things that brought them together.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. I had a feeling there was something brewing between Holden and Ezra. All of that hostility can only mean one thing and I'm so down for it.
It's been awhile since I've read Lane Hayes and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed their books. This was my first foray into the Script Club series as for some reason I didn't realize it was book 5. I was mostly focused on how quirky the blurb was and the words nerd/jock trope. I'm like a moth to the flame when I see that trope listed and I'm giddy to learn that is the theme of this entire series. I will certainly be checking out books 1-4, especially after hearing all the descriptions of the men in the Script Club.
The Professor's Date was a mixture of funny, adorable, and surprisingly steamy goodness. I mean Tommy is all nerdy professor who loves to chat about his work in astrophysics, but once you get him in the bedroom Watch Out! Mr. Professional becomes Mr. Dominant and like Noah I was so there for it. I love when the nerd in the pairing ends up being toppy AF. It goes against the stereotype too many of us fall for.
Noah was an interesting character. He used to be a professional soccer player, but circumstances led to him leaving that path and now he's a fabulously decked out hair dresser. His meet cute with Tommy was sweet as Tommy was booked with him to get a much needed haircut. The pair hit it off as friends and somehow ends with Noah lending his fashion and dating insights to help Tommy find a date for his sisters upcoming wedding.
Though Noah seems like a happy go lucky guy on the outside, past trauma has him carrying a lot of hidden baggage. His sunny personality hides his insecurities, but it doesn't take too long for Tommy to start seeing behind the mask. He is a genius after all. On paper these two should never have worked, but somehow they do. In fact their dynamic is perfect for each other. Even if one of them isn't invested in a certain topic such as sports, they both are attentive and active in their conversations. It doesn't matter the topic, it's the simple fact to have someone to listen.
I really enjoyed reading about Noah and Tommy. The two seamlessly fell into a friendship that led to lust which then led to more. The epilogue was sweet and made me happy to see them doing so well down the line. I must admit, I'm excited Tommy's bestie and roommate Holden is next. I knew his arguing with a certain jock was more than it appeared. I especially like that said jock apparently identifies as straight. Give me enemies to lovers any day and I'm a happy reader. Pair it with nerd/jock and a possible bi awakening? I'll be there will bells on.
I really liked this, my only complaint is that Tommy is a grad student who happens to teach a class or two. As he doesn’t have his PhD yet, he’s not actually a professor
I adored this story so much. Tommy and Noah are so amazing together. Who knew Professor Tommy was a man who would take charge in a way that would rock Noah's world? People sometimes suck, and not in a good way. Sadly, you'll find out who I mean when you read this story. All those surrounding these two, caring for them and having their backs was amazing to see but not unusual for Tommy's and Noah's friends. A MUST read if you love stories with supportive friends, HOT sexy times and as I experienced, a need to throat punch a few ppl who richly deserved it after the pain they have caused. As a hairstylist myself I appreciated everything about Noah. We hairstylists deserve our HEA too! I received an ARC for my honest review. 5/5 scissors
I've been a fan of Lane Hayes since I first started reading MM romance and found the Leaning Into series. She's always got interesting characters with natural, interesting dialogue, and entertaining stories.
I've loved her Script Club series, and The Professor's Date is no exception.. Plenty of witty banter, easy-to-love MCs, and a fun story with just the right balance of steam and plot.
There's a touch of angst and emotional drama, just enough to take the story outside the "fluff" category (not that there's anything wrong with fluff!) but not enough to need a box of tissues, in my opinion.
You can easily read this book as a standalone, but I recommend reading them all in order of publication (Rules of Play is my personal fave, because I just love George) .
I enjoyed the fact that the MCs were not your typical jock and nerd.
In his former life, Noah was a pro soccer player. Although his pro career was cut short he still plays in a rec league. He's also a mildly flamboyant hairdresser who wears lip gloss, eyeliner, and a bit of glitter.
Thomas is a brilliant professor who doesn't care much about his looks, but unlike most nerds we meet in romance novels, he has a boatload of confidence and a bit of a dom streak that doesn't come across as arrogant.
The angst was mild, the sex was hot, and the characters were well-written. 4 stars
Tommy and Noah’s story is so good. From the absent minded professor of sorts Tommy to the wickedly sassy and semi sporty hair dresser Noah, the story just pulled me in and I really just rooted for them. They are so cute together and they both had self image issues but the other saw them clearly. Their chemistry and dynamic was super explosive and I loved who Tommy became in the bedroom or during sexy times. Yummy! The whole series is good but I really loved this one!
This may be my favorite of the Script Club books. Who knew Tommy would unlock a professor kink I didn't know I had. Noah was such a combination of personalities, I found it a little hard to picture him in my mind as I read. But every version of him was lovable. This book was heavy at times, however I felt like it remained very low angst even through the serious themes.
