This book GIT : VERSION CONTROL FOR EVERYONE by Ravishankar Somasundaram is an excellent book which is not only meant for those in the technology department but for everyone who use computer for their day to day activities

Even though I am from a non IT background, I do have a lot of work with computers and I had no idea either about version controlling or GIT until and unless I had an opportunity to read this book

And when I went through it I was simply amazed. The reason for my surprise and amazement were of two dimensions:

1. I got to know about version controlling and GIT. I was surprised about the features of GIT and came to know how effective it can be, if employed in our day to day activities involving documents, image files, power point presentations etc

And the best feature is that, this book teaches the concept of Version Control using GIT right from the basics in very simple and easy to follow procedures and does it effectively by following the methodology of "learn by doing"

2. The way in which the author Ravishankar Somasundaram has taken the book.... was simply awesome.

He has made the book very easy to read and understand even by a non IT person.

He has used very simple language and not very high sounding technical terms and where ever new terms come in, he has never failed to give explanations for them.

He has quoted simple examples from our daily routine with which we can relate the subject and understand it easily.

And in many places he has infused into the book his sense of humor which makes the book very lively.

All these features make the book an interesting read and easy to finish in few days time. I would like to thank Packt Publishing for bringing out such a book and the author for the efforts he has put in to make the book reachable and understandable for everyone.

The book presents a fresh look at GIT and presents in a way that even beginners could understand. The author has been a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor to suggest that these topics can be presented in a friendly and easier-to-read format (step-by-step example and illustrative screenshots)

This book starts with the basics, focusing on user’s needs and leading them to solutions gradually which is very welcoming. It is an easy-to-digest method of providing the necessary knowledge in version control for less experienced. The day-to-day examples and analogies makes for interesting reading, no matter what your level of expertise

Git directory is a full-fledged repository with complete history and full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access or a central server. The book begins with installing and configuring of Git. The next couple of chapters explain the main concepts for working with single repository, and in distributed network with a catchy gaming analogy. Finally, the book covers internals of Git commands to those who would like to master the concept

Take this as analogy, chapters 1-7 are for those who would be happy to learn driving a car while chapter 8 is for those who would like to go further in knowing the working of the car engine

The book provides a very thorough introduction to Git: Version Control and does a good job of describing its applicability on daily life situations when dealing with digital files

This book is terrible. After reading pro git I really had to force myself not bursting into tears while reading this book. Concepts are badly explained, nobody is waiting for screenshots of cygwin windows and just starting a book on version control by putting a word document under version control is not done.

GIT – a widely useful open source contribution that enables efficient handling of digital files. Git: Version Control for Everyone - Beginner's Guide - a lucid contribution by Ravi to the fraternity of computer literacy. I will keep referring to it…

A good book to learn the basics of version control using Git. It's a little short, 180 pages, but covers enough material to get started and explains it using clear and simple examples.
