Do not be fooled by the lack of reviews or a book cover. You can read this for free on FictionPress and you will thank yourself for taking a chance on it. Hype isn't necessarily good and it's true that this book wouldn't be for the general mass of readers who enjoy easy, light, predictable reads, but if you're smart and looking for your next epic read, this is it.

Holy fucking hell, I don't know if I've ever ever ever been so impressed with a book! It had everything I could hope for. It's one of the most intelligent books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Seriously, the main characters are wicked smart (which only says spectacular things about the author as it all stemmed from her), funny, ballsy, courageous, know how to beast just about ANY conversation amd/or fight and come out on top, oh and they're pretty much master assassins.

Don't be discouraged by that though. They're also flawed, changing, and conflicted which keeps it interesting. And I am once again relieved that this isn't one of those books where the two main characters immediately fall in love. I hate books that lack depth and you have no idea why they love each other except that they're both attractive. That s total bullshit. This book, however, is anything but depthless. It's really detailed. Don't be discouraged that the first few chapters are dedicated to getting to know the main character. It's extremely important to know who she is before the story picks up because like I said, they're flawed and and you need to know in what ways she really does change and evolve.

Layers upon layers to the story! It was really gratifying to finally read something that wasn't predictable. The action, suspense, mystery and sexual tension had me completely hooked and obsessed. I was totally useless to the outside world while reading this because I was so fucking engrossed in it.

I've read a total of four of Tijan's books before I read this one and I have to say, this one is by far the best and the others are some of my favorite that I've ever read. The story was so complex and riddled with an abundance of information and references that I have trouble fathoming how the author even created this masterpiece. I almost have to claim it really happened and she merely took notes lol. I really loved Taryn and Tray from A Whole New Crowd and honestly, I pretty much tolerated Jace in that story. In the end, I liked and respected him, but I didn't love him. After reading this book, I have to say that I love Jace more than I love Tray, which I thought was freaking impossible. To one up a previous character, one who is a badass genius, no less, takes considerable skill and brain power. I loved Taryn and Maya. I think it's really interesting how Tijan made me seriously love Taryn Matthews and then almost kind of just find her irritating in this book. How can she make me side with a new character over a previously loved one? Seriously, skill. She's skilled. Damn.

Sorry, first long review I've ever written. Summary: Read this if you're looking for a book with romance where they do more than kiss behind a closed curtain, insanely cleverly written plot, characters, dialogue, and plot twists, and adrenaline inducing action and adventure..

OH MY FREAKING ANGELS!!!
I don't know whether Tijan had lost her mind or had just written her best book yet. It was mind-blowing. It was earth shattering. It was thrilling. It was touching. It was incredible and I just.. I just..

description

Reading A Whole New Crowd, I thought Taryn was the badass of them all, but nooo I was wrong. Boy, how I was wrong. Taryn might be a badass, but Maya defined badass. Hell, Maya was the inspiration of all badasses out there. She stumbled and fell down, but she got back up ten times fiercer than ever. Plus, she was a genius in reading people and I thought I had everybody figured out. Everybody should be watch out for this girl. She hissed.

And Jace, how do I describe this hot alpha badass super leader? He was fierce. He was intelligent. He was resourceful. He was conniving, manipulating, ruthless, and he complimented Maya to the T (I agree, Ms. Tijan. Jace was your best character ever!). I knew he had layers, but I didn't know he had that many. I guess it was only Maya's to figure out.

It started great only to be better. I was at the edge of my seat...until I got to the climax.

description

Wait..what?

So all that brain-exhausting thinking was for this? This..this other world? Wow. Ok. I don't know what to think. Maybe it was my fault for not seeing all the signs. Or maybe I was just in denial of what was bound to be revealed at the end. If Sentiment Lost had alternative climax and ending I would absolutely, without no doubt, rate it 5 stars.

Overall, this is a very great book to read. All the philosophy, psychology, sociology, and theology concepts were what make this book different, but yeah.. the climax was just a no for me.

^^ That about sums it up ^^

First off, I was a little thrown when I realized that Taryn wasn't narrating and that this storyline was completely seperate from A Whole New Crowd. Its not thats Maya's view and perspective wasn't equally interesting but it takes a little getting used to.

The beginning was hard for me to connect with and sometimes I felt that the plot and character development was disjointed. Maya proves to be very introspective and reflective and that makes for a very deep narration. Yet a lot of it was lost on me... I often found that I just couldn't connect with her thoughts and actions. Even now- I couldn't tell you If I found her character likeable or not.

Although I must say, there were moments throughout the book where I became invested and addicted to this story. The romantic scenes between Maya and Jace captured me and pulled me right back in to the plot every time my interest started to veer. Their chemistry and connection was like a magnet drawing me back in and forcing me to re-invest myself.

Then once I'd reached the ending, I was back to being confused. So much came out of left field. The plot completely twisted and segwayed to a whole other direction. I kind of felt like I'd read two different books.

Overall I give it a 3.5. It was a good book but not my cup of tea.

Holy shit. I still can't get over what an amazing writer Tijan is. Each book of hers surprises me with its amazing characters and plot.

I know a lot of people say this and it is incredibly cliché, but Maya and Jace were made for each other.
I often like certain couples together, because they're spunky and just awesome, but it astounded me how fucking compatible these two are. The fit together in every way and complete each other in a way that I've never seen before and all the while they still challenge and frustrate each other.
And the sex is explosive.

I know Tijan is currently busy with Fallen Crest Public and will then be working on Carter Reed, followed by Broken & Screwed part 2 and then probably another Brady Remington book, but I am praying that she does not give up on this series.

It's complex and even though I thought it'd be weird to throw some supernatural stuff in there, she made it work and I can not wait to hear some more about Jace and Maya and Gray.

Though I do have to say that I did not like Taryn in this story, while I loves her in AWNC.

***
After re-reading this 4 years later, I feel there is a bit too much unnecessary information which makes it a bit unrealistic. And the sudden turn to the paranormal just doesn't sit well with me.

I really liked this book until the end. I am not a fan of paranormal, having said that I do like this book and this author. I love her style of writing and how she brings her characters to life. I fine I need to reread her stories because there is a lot to keep track of in her stories.

DNF...

I couldn't get into it because Maya's ramblings were to confusing. This whole 'us' & 'them' stuff kept coming and going out of her mind rambles without any clarification. I tried to get into her mind set but just couldn't. It felt like I was in the mind of someone who was high and kept loosing her focus. And whatever came out of her mouth always sounded cryptic or like her sentences were half finish. There was something always missing and it just didn't make any sense at all. It was like I was supposed to already know what the hell she was talking about. My eldest does this a lot and it drives me crazy. His mind goes a hundred miles an hour and his vocal cords are to slow to catch up, so his sentences come out missing bits and pieces, so I have to go through a whole process of Q&As until he can bring his meaning and complete thought out in order for others to understand.

Sadly for this book/Maya/author I could not go through the Q&A process with Maya in order to understand her, so it gets a DNF (which I HATE to do, I always try to finish) and a 1 Star. I just couldn't go further than chapter three... Maybe if I kept at it things would have gotten better, but I just didn't have the energy to sift through all that to try to complete one sentence that made sense.

Sorry T, I'll just stick to the Fallen Crest series, when's the last one coming out?!?!?!

This one was twice as long as the first one. But once again i got pulled into Maya's world and how she came to meet Jace Lanser the other badass man in AWNC. I have to say that Jace was a mystery to me the first time he was introduced. At the surface i thought he was just this typical gang leader that Taryn also loved but boy not only was I blown away but how his character really evolved in this one but there is so many layers to him i have trouble pinning him down. Maya and Jace are both very intelligent characters and Tijan really took this two to a whole new level here and gave us a very compelling and mysterious world through the eyes of the MCs. Most of the time i felt frustrated of what to expect from Jace and what other stuff that he was hiding but that all became bearable because of the kind of unusual chemistry Maya and Jace have and the way they both try to outwit each other. Nobody is who they seem to be and nothing is what it seems to be. I was a bit thrown off by that supernatural aspect that kind of creep up towards the end. All those riddles are heavy on theologies but i did not expect it will play that deep and an important role in the conclusion of this story. Something bigger is going on, bigger than Maya and Jace ever thought it could be. In other words this book pretty much f@cked with my mind. Tijan will write circles around you xD

There are good books, there are great books, and then there are books that change the way you think. This book fell into the third category.

If you're looking for an easy read, this is not for you. It's an epic story with so many twists and turns it'll spin your head, but you'll be biting your nails, dying to find out what happens next. If you're familiar with Tijan's work, then you already know that her writing is very intense - her characters very well developed and her plot and story very emotional. In this book everything is amplified. If you think Jaded was intense, this will blow your mind. It's gritty, it's raw and it's amazing.

I first read this book a couple of years ago, right when it was being posted on fictionpress, but I've gone back and reread it so many times, and it gets to me every time I read it.

You don't really need to read the first story to read this one, as it has a whole new set of characters and plot, but some of the characters do reappear so it would make more sense if you were to read it. Either way, I definitely recommend this book to just anyone - especially if you're an avid Tijan fan. Just be prepared to be taken on an emotional roller-coaster, and make sure you don't have anything else to do because you won't be able to stop reading.

It's a shame it hasn't been published though. I would've loved having a copy.

Flipping heck. This book is long. Due to the fact it is only available on Tijan's website it did restrict my ability to read it. Until, I had my lightbulb moment and converted if to word and then PDF (very time consuming I might add), but it did enhance my reading pleasure. That being said, I absolutely loved this book. Always a fan of Tijan's writing, and she did not disappoint. This book follows on from A Whole New Crowd, and tells the story of Jace (he's awesome in this book, more so than in AWNC, and I loved him in that) and Maya (Jace's ex best friend's sister). As their lives intertwine, they become 'partners', so to speak, in solving a major criminal gang's activities (don't want to giveaway any surprises, and there are a few) with the help of a lot of old and new characters. It definitely helps if you've read AWNC first. This is only a rough write up, and does have the odd typo, but due to the fantastic writing, original story, amazing characters, and all those plot twist and turns, these little things can be overlooked. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

I rele liked it and it was a smart book, but in the end of the book there was some supernatural stuff tht didnt blend. This was the second book, there was no mention of anything supernatural in book 1 and there was nothing supernatural mentioned in this until about the middle...i wudve liked the book better if there hadnt been anything supernatural, i just thought it didnt fit.

it was a really good book until the last part...i think the author had no idea how to end the book and decided to go that way which really sucks. i will still recommend it since it was a really good book and the characters are not irritating..i still love it that's why it still got 4stars.

I'm not sure how to review this! It is the very first time I have read a story off of a fan fiction site. So, most of the problems I would mention are those that would be absent once the story is cleaned up and published.

Case in point: The biggest problem I had when reading this story is the length! Landing at over 250,000 words, it REALLY needs to be cut down and tightened. There was so much extraneous stuff that, even though I LOVED the main storyline, I had trouble making myself read to the end. See? Big problem but it probably won't be when the book is actually published!

Bottom line overall. This has the potential to be a freaking FANTASTIC book! All the elements are there - once you can find them a bit easier.

Tijan does it again.

Probably the most overwhelming story that she has ever written, this book has a debatably right amount of everything -- life and death, survival, the hunger for love, redemption, loyalty, faith and the lack of it, action through blood and words, the importance of family, the inevitable painful pasts and the small promises of a future, and humanity's foolishness; colliding aspects which may, at certain points, leave the reader bewildered.

Along with its stirring ideas, the book is a very very long read. I had to take breaks but eventually coming back for more. It's basically made up by Maya's thoughts and feelings, Jace's epic undercover lives, everyone's perspective of Jace's epic undercover lives, and the long race towards that "Wait, what?" revelation near the end. It might have rooted from Taryn's and the Galversons' story, but it is so much more. Crazier and much more dangerous.

I thought I would get tired of the badassery in Tijan's characters, but not even close. I fell in love with Sam and Taryn, but it is with Maya that I got challenged the most. She's a lot of things and I loved every bit of it, even her overthinking and the stubborness that comes with it. Jace Lanser was definitely such a thrill, both his character and his story. Tijan creates such exhaustingly amazing characters and I can never be grateful enough for that.

Tijan does it again and again, and I don't think I want her to ever stop.

The beginning of this book had me a little messed up as I didn't quite understand what was going on until Maya began her search for Jace, Mayas' inner dialogue and the plot were indeciferable to me until that point. That's when it all changed for me, the action, chemistry and storyline became addictive and I have to admit that I read for 24 hours straight - until I exhausted my capacity to think anymore and my feelings hyped into overdrive. Tijan never ceases to amaze me with the complexities and depth of her writing. This stuff is bloody brilliant, mastermind material.

**Read on FictionPress. I know from reading A Whole New Crowd VS The Original Crowd that there can be two totally different stories written from one original storyline. Reading the notes at the bottom tells me there is a chance a lot is going to be different from now until the final published version. So for now, this is my review based on the current FictionPress version.**

Maya's personality is an interesting contradiction. She's half free spirited/hippie and half calculated con. She reads people and knows how to manipulate their interpretation to fit what she wants them to know but comes off as light yet aloof.

"I get a sense of what goes on inside sometimes. I have to for my job. And besides, trust me - I've been there myself. There's a part of you that stops giving a rat's ass about anyone or anything except the ones who matter. Life hands you some truly horrid people or events and ... it changes someone . A part of you is able and willing to do just about everything to protect those people that are your life-rafts."

"I was like that too. I had a brother who left home pretty young and parents who were never around. Sometimes I used to think that words were empty, you know, but the truth was that I just never knew what to say. Like what I could say to people and not have their opinions change about me or something. A part of it was just because I didn't want people to care about me or worry about me. That was just pride and it nearly ended me. Sad, huh? It's just words and yet - I think it's sad when people either don't respect words enough or they respect them too much."

"I think sometimes swear words are the only words that really express the extra inside of us. They don't cheapen what's inside of people, but they do alter how they're heard by other people."

"A part of my wondered briefly if that was inherited with the same genes of my brother, if that was necessary for survival, or if part of myself enjoyed finding the invisible puppet strings and pulling them."

She calculates and analyzes people like no one you've heard of...
"You come off all bad- ass, but I know where that came from. You had to survive and so you go on the attack, like did just now. That tells me that you came from a home or many homes where it was pretty shitty. You were probably ridiculed, maybe beaten, maybe even worse like abuse. Mental, of course, but probably physical or even sexual. You make people prove to you that they're worth knowing or even loving. If they screw up, that's it and they're out. Which isbn'y healthy, by the way. And as tough as you come across, that just means you're just as vulnerable inside. There's a reason for what surface you deliver to people... and you're not as invincible as everyone talks how you are. You need people. You need Tray. You need someone to love you and reign you in at times. That's Tray's job. And you enliven him. That's where he needs you."
"You're a bitch.' 'I can be if I need to be, but I'm not generally a bitch. I'm a girl who's dreams of being loved were shattered a long time ago. I just recently realized that, but I've survived some pretty awful things too. The difference between you and me is that I didn't deflect the pain. I absorbed it and I buried it."

The dynamic between Maya and Jace is lethal...
"I didn't know if you were a gift from god or a poisoned apple."
"I took your blade... Are you going to take it back? Try again? What are you going to do Maya?' I felt it near the curve of my lips and as he slipped it just inside my lips, I flicked my eyelids up and met his gaze, full-force and head-on. Jace smiled again and my throat dried. He was an angel that had been denied the gift of mercy."

"I was a con with a conscience for a higher purpose."

This is definitely not like the first book. This is more thriller/mystery with hints of romance that has a supernatural twist. After finishing the book and looking over even the quotes I have above, I have a completely different perspective. Tijan didn't waste her words, they all had a purpose. Although they fit perfectly in it's original interpretation, after the twist, they take on a whole new meaning.

I loved every moment of this story and love Mayan more then Taryn. Mayan could eat Tayrn for breakfast. She is a boss bitch and love the way she goes toe to toe with Jace Lancer. I don’t get sick of her and have no complaints about her. She doesn’t whinge and she meets every challenge head on. Her friend Munsinger was one of my favourite characters, his fiancé was a force. The supernatural twist opened up a whole new world that I wish we got more of. Tijans other stories so far haven’t hit the same level as this one. This story is badass, harsh, intriguing, dark and thrilling. I love that the romance doesn’t over shadow the whole story and the romance was wasn't sickeningly sweet. I’ll say it again, I wish there was more.

I have read many of tijan's novels before but this one took all my words away.this book contains everything.from romance to action. From fights to ending up being each other's support.tijan nailed it. I have read the whole new crowd and thought that taryn is strong. But this novel increased my respects for Maya. I loved the way jace was.but I must say this novel is one of the best novels I have ever read. Don't be fooled because of the no. Of pages. The book has suspense and you won't even think where one character might end up.

I don't even have words really. This book!
It takes you from the lows of reality on the streets, and the seedy criminal underbelly of society to the highs of legends myths and angelic battles. It was a mindf*ck of emotion and logic but in the absolute BEST way.
I love the dichotomy of genres that achieved this amazing synthesis in this story.
I just plain ole loved this one!
And I am dying for the next instalment in this universe because if this book is anything to go by especially as it was a sequel, this can only get epically better!

Omg! I’m speechless! I’ve read 20 Tijan’s books and this one is by far the best.
I have just one word for this book - MASTERPIECE!

Tijan, thank you for this book! Your mind is brilliant and you create stories and characters in a way no one else can! I’m so happy that I could FEEL the words you wrote! Maybe you have a mission, just like Maya had! ;-)

I had mixed feelings about this book. Whilst I did love Maya and Jace and their journey. There were some parts of the book I struggled with. Maybe rereading it later on will make me feel differently but right now this is how I feel about it.
