This really is for beginners. It starts from the most basic things, what type of fairies and elementals there are. Which was great! There is grounding with the fairies in here, rituals to do with the elementals, folklore on some one them. This is really such a wonderful book for anyone like me. The ones who want to apply fairies and such to your practice but have no idea where to start and how to reach out to them.

It's written in an easy to understand fashion and everything is spelled out so even the most new to this subject can easily understand. Wonderful book full of awesome things.

Faeries & Elementals for Beginners: Learn about & Communicate with Nature Spirits is a nonfiction book by Alexandra Chauran. For those interested in the earth based religions or those just interested in faery lore, this guide will explain the natures of a wide assortment of Fae. If you are a practitioner looking to understand and work with faeries and elementals and attract them to your home and garden, or just fascinated with the mere idea of them, this book is a wonderful starting point in your research.

Faeries & Elementals for Beginners is very matter of fact about the ideas of Fae, including elementals. While I am a practicing Lutheran and not one to dabble, I love reading about other beliefs and the foundations of various lore. There are far more things on earth and in the world in general than I can even pretend to understand, so I would rather research everything just in case. Also, as I read quite a bit of fiction that is paranormal, faery tale based, and urban fantasy I often will see mention and brief explanations of certain creatures in the pages, and find that more background and understanding of the lore adds an extra layer of enjoyment to my reading. So, if you do not believe that the Fae are real, do not immediately turn your nose up at the book, it is still an interesting read if approached with an open and curious mind.

For those that are interested in a practical application of the information found in Faeries & Elementals for Beginners, I have to say that it offers detailed information and would work as a wonderful cornerstone for your research. There is detailed information about the rituals, including the whys and wherefores. The wide variety of beings are well organized and described, offering more information on just about all of those listed then I have seen in any other book. There are step-by-step instructions for invoking faeries and elementals, you'll find rituals, meditations, and everything you need to begin safely interacting with these magical entities. I cannot attest to the accuracy of the methods offered, as I have not tried any of them.

I would recommend Faeries & Elementals for Beginners to anyone looking for more information of these creatures, and those looking to work with them. I think that it can also work as a great resource to readers and writers that are looking for more information on the subject, as well as to those looking for practical instruction.

Faeries & Elementals for Beginners: Learn About & Communicate With Nature Spirits is a nonfiction guide on how readers can best connect spiritually with natural spirits around them. I requested this book because, though I am an out-of-the-broom-closet pagan, I don't really know all that much about things such as faeries or nymphs. To others like me who could use a refresher lesson on such creatures, Faeries & Elementals is definitely a book worth checking out.

The book is divided into four sections by element: air, fire, earth, and water. I found this extremely helpful, since different elements of course help with different things (and have different locations too). This made it easier to locate specifics later, if I needed to.

In addition to descriptions regarding what different spirits and creatures are and where to find them, the author also gives guidance on how to best communicate with them. She even takes this a step further, offering instructions for things such as meditation, and ritual.

If you have an interest in creatures such as faeries, are a pagan, or are looking for tips and tools to help better connect with the friends we cannot see in the world around us, then this is a book that you should check out. Thank you to Netgalley and Llewellyn Publications for my copy in exchange for an honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

It starts out with a long list of faeries dedicating one to three paragraphs explaining them and their legends.
My takeaway was the Leshe spirit a type of nature spirit that tends to the forest which I recently interacted with. And a Dryad which is another name for the spirit of a mature tree. Also have interacted with them recently.

The bulk of the book is dedicated to elemental magic as the author practices it. A quadratheist worldview where all aspects of creation are ruled by one of the elements: earth, water, air, fire. It doesn't mention spirit, or God or anything, seems to be a Wicca offshoot as she mentions an athame several times.
Rather curious but not for me.
Easier to deal with One God personally.

I do like the list of Faeries but it seems they are more a collection and the author did not personally interact with any, or did not reveal any such interactions.

I liked the learn about part of this book but the communication part was rather disappointing. While I got a basic idea of how to practice awareness and build up the first contact to elementals, every further examples of "communication" were rituals bound to gain benefits, which isn't what I was hoping for. The author described herself as Wiccan, which explains the focus on utilizing the spirits. It was an interesting read but some parts also had a bitter effect on me for example the very careless encouragement to step into fairy rings and even bring children into unguided contact with fairies. Beginners, the targeted audience, should rather learn to stay respectful and wait for very clear signs before they disturb nature spirits. No one gets invited by their first contact.

Great read but I'm not a follower of strict high magic regimes so your milage may vary. She gives a lot of useful tips and I'm thankful for her insight on working with the fae, as it's helped me reevaluate my work with the craft as well.
