This book starts out as what it purports to be, then it just ends up being the author baselessly trying to buy expensive things to prop up the branding of people/housing to expand the relevant programs endlessly as they've done since this was written.

This is an interesting book that focuses on different features of housing projects in America and looks at their crime rate. They then discuss the features of each apartment block that accounts for their really high or comparatively low crime rate. This book promotes community cohesiveness and wants to reduce the fear that residents experience at home. These ideas are intriguing and again demonstrates that crime is a product of opportunity, when that situation is removed then crime also decreases.

This book will make you think differently about architecture. It is not designed for people that have architectural backgrounds, concepts are explained well enough for the layman. *Like me. The explanations about how to design safety into buildings has made me look at the buildings I enter every day in a new way. It also serves the purpose of helping to explain why some of the high crime rates in low income housing have come to be, and can change your perspective on those stories you may have heard.
