Florence Scovel Shinn (September 24, 1871, Camden, New Jersey – October 17, 1940) was an American artist and book illustrator who became a New Thought spiritual teacher and metaphysical writer in her middle years. In New Thought circles, she is best known for her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925).

Her books "Your Word Is Your Wand" and "The Game of Life and How To Play It" were released as audiobooks in 2014 and 2015 respectively and were narrated by actress Hillary Hawkins.

Shinn is considered part of the New Thought movement, as her writings follow in the tradition of Phineas Quimby (1802–1866), Emma Curtis Hopkins (1849–1925), and both Charles Fillmore (1854–1948) and Myrtle Fillmore (1845–1931), co-founders of the Unity Church.

Motivational author Louise Hay acknowledges her as an early influence.

'Prayer is telephoning to God and intuition is God telephoning you.'

I liked that opening chapter subheading. I'm still thinking about it.
Intuition! So many of us ignore it, or feel guilty about it.
Often our first response to a situation is intuitive, but how do we put that in words?
So many 'if only' moments. This book is a chance to change that, a fascinating hitherto unpublished work by Shinn who died in 1940.
Imagination and visualization, all form part of the journey.
The affirmations in this quite beautiful production are a helpful guide to this growing process.
The vivid colours, the photography, the welcoming words, the encompassing swirly lines underlining each heading on pages, all contrive to draw us into the text.
I must admit the colours and production radiate a retro seventies 'get in touch with your inner self' feel about them. That's great because this is what the book is about, enhancing and recognizing your intuition as a powerful healing tool, tapping into the wisdom of the universe.
I have been reading a pdf version of the hardcover on my notebook.
The hardcover edition would be a nice personal acquisition, or a lovely present.
Full of verve and momentum, certainly a book to ponder on.

If you have already read the other books of Florence, like I had, then there is nothing new in this book. In the note by Louise Hay at the start of the book it says that this was a lost manuscript that someone sent to her and they decided to publish it in this colour book format. But it's only a repetition of what is already said by Florence in The Game of Life and Secret Door to Success. Yes, it makes for a great gift or collectors item, because in typical Hay House style it's a very attractive and well produced book. But of course, the text is still all Florence and that's timeless wisdom.

The Magic Path of Intuition
Florence Scovel Shinn
Forward by Louise L. Hay

A Forgotten Typewritten Manuscript Unearthed 72 Years After Her Passing!

Florence Scovel Shinn was an artist and pioneer in the Metaphysical world when she published her first book in 1925 The Game of Life and How to Play It. She passed away in 1940, so when this typewritten manuscript was found by a rare-books dealer, and brought to the attention of Louise L. Hay, founder of Hay House Publishing, it was an auspicious day indeed.

The term intuition conjures many images in the mind of today’s reader, some charlatan in nature, others a saving grace when danger abounds. For Florence Shinn, it was a way of life. Intuition was much more than a still small voice humbly guiding a person. The Magic Path of Intuition is filled with 10 lessons of a spiritual life. Among these, the power of prayer or intentioned thought, the Golden Rule, gratitude and the law of increase/decrease, faith, visualization, manifestation, negative/positive thought forms and how they affect life; happiness/health, being present, greed/love/hate, infinite intelligence, and magic, miracles.

Hay House has taken this manuscript and added a unique beauty of photographs that instill a meditative quality to the book. It is just that, not a book of meditation, but a meditation in of itself. Written in a conversational style, Florence Scovel Shinn shares her maxims among Biblical quotes and allegories.

If you are a follower of Louise L. Hay and know her beliefs through her writings, then A Magic Path of Intuition will be a welcome addition to your bookcase. If you are new to Hay House publishing, I recommend this title along with all of the works by Louise L. Hay.

For Louise L. Hay’s website visit: http://www.louisehay.com/

To Read The Game of Life and How to Play It as referenced visit: http://www.sacred-texts.com/nth/shinn...

I was given an ARC of this title by Net Galley and Hay House Publishing.

It’s wonderful to be able to read a "new” book by Florence Scovel Schinn; the manuscript was discovered in 2012 and sent to Louise Hay for publication.

It is a beautiful little book with pages of different colours, and photographs.

Florence tells us that one way to cultivate intuition is to say before sleeping “In the morning I’ll know just what to do”.

“Prayer is telephoning to God, and intuition is God telephoning to you.”

“I now change all enemies into friends, All inharmony into harmony. All injustice into justice.”

She tells us that as the alchemists of old transmuted all base metals into gold (did they actually do this?), you have the power to change all evil into good.

In a chapter on finances, we are told to affirm “God is my supply and big, happy financial surprises now come to me”.

Gratitude is the law of increase and complaint is the law of decrease.

We’re also given many quotes from the Bible, for example, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither be afraid” - John 14.27.

As in previous books, the author provides us with many stories from her personal life of how people obtained success by changing their thoughts and words.

On woman had a noticeable and long-standing “flesh growth”, She kept saying “I have perfect faith that God is doing His perfect work”. One day it suddenly disappeared.

We should continuously repeat “A wonderful joy is on its way, and the wonderful joy comes to stay”.

We must live fully in the now to make our dreams come true.

The experiences you meet in life are your own creations.

“Faith is simply knowing that God can do it.”

“According to your faith be it done unto you.” - Matthew 9:29.

The more patient (non-resistant) you are, the quicker the Universe can work and bring you what you desire.”

“The desire of the heart can only be attained through non-resistance.”

When something negative happens, don’t despair, but declare “I baptize it ‘Success’!”

Florence gives us three simple rules; speak the word, follow your hunches, and dig your ditches.

She talks about the fourth-dimensional world, though these days we say we’ve moved into the fifth dimension.

Florence declares: “When you have the fixed idea that there is only One Power in the Universe, all appearances of evil will disappear from your world.”

We have read all the things in this book previously, for example, in the works of Neville, Louise Hay, etc, but Florence Scovel Schinn was one of the first to write metaphysical books of this kind, providing us with these truths, and it is always inspiring to read and re-read her books.

I highly recommend that you read this book.

I could have highlighted this entire book, it's short, precise and full of invaluable information. I can literally feel the change within me that wouldn't have resulted without reading this book. Divine timing indeed as I was almost to a vibration of self pity and needed reminded how perfect and whole and powerful I truly am. If you're into the law of attraction and manifestation, even magic, but aren't getting the results you need then you are likely blocking it from yourself. This book and author will show you exactly why it isn't working and why faith, love and forgiveness along with patience, surrender and a big reality check of your current beliefs and thought forms is always the answer. She fills the pages with this wisdom and divine intelligence along with affirmations that can truly open your mind and change your life. I had never heard that a disorganized house could block wealth and I'm glad that I did learn it through this book. I will be reading her other books.

A small, colorful, brightly designed book with some great ideas. Written less from intuition-as-a-psychological-matter and more as a companion book for The Secret (which I didn't agree with and didn't like), I had a bit of trouble following it through. But I did.

It is also written with a strong religious slant, which I do not connect to intuition.

Some interesting bits, though. And perhaps worth considering.

Some books are better browsed through at a bookstore. Had I done that, I would not have purchased it. It's a small size, though, so I will recycle the colorful interior pages and cover into a book of quotes and poems. There are no bad books, just books waiting to be altered.

Much of this could be swept aside as "mumbo jumbo," but I do think these lessons can be reinterpreted as analogies for the time & energy we WASTE via our negativity.
Use positive self-talk, and simultaneously "create your own good luck." AKA --- put in the work that allows you to be in a receptive position for whatever it is you desire. It will only be that much easier for you to achieve.
If you want to win the lottery, you need to buy a ticket! After buying that ticket, avoid negative thoughts. They only add an unnecessary mental barrier.

‘Faith brings fruit.’

Just one of the many affirmations I decidedly scribbled on my notepad, in an effort to take action w/regard to some belated, albeit dedicated self-help after reading the (2013) book by Florence Scovel Shinn, The Magic Path of Intuition.

My friend, Patsy had loaned me the book to help me in some way, I guess, since I must have seemed a bit befuddled, at the time. Patsy mentioned it was one of her favorite books & thought there might be something inside to help me, help myself, so to speak, to discover the power within, as a way to figure my way out of my dilemma, at the time.

Patsy was right! After reading this book in one afternoon, since there are only 109 pages, I did find some inspiration. Still, I didn’t want to read it so fast that I might miss the secreted meaning of something altogether important & therefore read some sentences more than once, so I wouldn’t misunderstand the implication or suggestion & also ensure I would remember the nuance of the phrase for future use.

I wrote down more than 20 affirmations for myself as a prescription, to repeat & remember for both the here & now & for later; like the vigorous adage says, ‘wash, rinse & repeat’.

Granted the stories are a bit dated because Florence was born in 1871 & supposedly this piece was (type)written by her sometime between 1925 when her 1st book was published & 1940 when she died, sadly, at the young age of 69.

This particular piece was discovered in her papers & published more than 70 years after her death, as indicated in the Introduction of the book.

And it’s all good & positive & would benefit everybody, after a quick read & respectable repetition of any of the affirmations set forth by Florence in her book about the magic of intuition.

My favorite, at the moment, is the affirmation > ‘You must answer each negative thought with a word of authority.’

No, but wait, there’s another one that maybe is more appropriate to what I need to focus on, at the moment > ‘Be wide-awake to your good, and let every event of the day teach you something.’

So, read the book & pick an affirmation to remember & repeat & follow the lesson learned. It can’t hurt & will more than likely help in some way, shape or form > I’m absolutely, positively sure!

Thanks Patsy!

This is another wonderful book by Florence Scovel Shinn. This book is packed with daily affirmations that can apply to almost any situation one can encounter in their daily walk through life. I have taken many of the affirmations and wrote them down so I can read them and ponder them at anytime during the day. I will always keep this book nearby. I have confirmed by Shinn's books that what happens to someone always starts and ends with what is going on inside their own mind. If one holds something like resentment it causes turmoil and when it is dealt with in proper fashion, turmoil dissolves immediately. When one trusts in their intuition, and applies what God and the universe unfolds for them, they can truly find a better way to live than they can do for themselves. I plan of using the invaluable information from Shinn's books to continue to transform into the person I have always wanted to be. Life is really good today.

This is the second time I read this book, that was published several years after the passing of Florence Scovel Shinn, and I can honestly say the writings in this small, but sublimely powerful book had more of an impact on my life and in my world than I expected.

I would happily recommend this book to anyone who is open to starting his or her day with Spiritually Uplifting, or Spiritually Inspirational works.

Of course, I would recommend this book to anyone who reads the works of Dr. Catherine Ponder, the late and great Louise L. Hay, the late and great Wayne W. Dyer, etc.

I must say, Lesson #8, "Do Not Let Your Heart's Desire Become a Heart's Disease," especially hit home for me, this time around.

Published by Hay House in 2013, this book was actually written prior to 1940. "Prayer is telephoning to God, and intuition is God telephoning you" is one of my favorite quotes in the book. Send goodwill to your neighbor, family and friends. Shinn talks about our energetic attachments to things, patience, faith, gratitude and acceptance as key elements to a spiritual life. "A ahromnious person is never vibrating at the same rate as a germ" is another nice quote. A quick, light, fun and enriching read.

Amazingly good.

I have been a fan of Louise for nearly 3 decades. Florence Scovel Shinn is living through her. What she writes and teaches are so ahead of her time she is definitely a divine being. I don't say was because she lives on through spirit and through us. It's profound and moving this tome and after all my studying throughout the years I feel this is a missing piece I've just found to make the jigsaw of life feel nearer completion than it ever has before. Just as Mike Dooley, Wayne Dwyer, Vincent Peel and of course Louise have added their pieces too.

You can make it happen

A simple book, a simple message but profound in its application. I so wish that these ideas here would become mandatory reading for our children so as to train their minds at an early age and they would then grow to become healthy and wise in creating their realities and live a far more happier and productive life. However
this would work for all at any point of time in one's life. Like Nike professes "just do it"
