But the return of the diplomatic mission survivors to the Joias system may not be as peaceful as they’d hoped. Alba’s political rival, General Cavaco, has used her absence to stoke citizens’ fears and prejudices of an alien invasion - and he’s gunning for a war that Alba knows he can’t win. Between Cavaco’s political machinations, suspicious aliens, and an uprising in the Rim Moutains, Alba, Savina, and the others will face their biggest challenge preventing the utter destruction of the Joias System. In the meantime, Aran has problems of his he has the cure to his best friend’s fatal illness, but he can’t implement it without Joias technology. He’s got to figure out a way to keep his unconscious best friend alive until they reach Villa Nova do Sol, keep his pet land-devil from killing everyone who looks at him sideways, and keep the charak space-parasite from completing a murderous take-over of the raiders’ minds. Oh, and keep the raiders from slaughtering their way through the Joias system anyway.
R.M. Olson writes queer, feel-good space opera, featuring diverse casts, found families, and loads of action. R.M. has ridden the Trans Siberian railway, jumped off the highest bungee jump in the world, gone cage-diving with great white sharks, faced down a charging buffalo bull, and knows how to milk a goat. Currently they reside in Alberta, Canada with their four children, three cats, and a dog the size of a small bear. R.M. goes hiking and skiing more often than they probably have time for, eats more chocolate than is probably good for them, and reads more books than is probably prudent.
Olson writes such amazing space operas that you forget you're reading - it's like watching a movie. I will miss these characters and the worlds (and universes!) of this story and will probably read the books again someday. They're super exciting, nail biting, and wonderfully written. You can't go wrong with one of Olson's books. Especially if you enjoy exciting shoot-em-up stories with unique characters that you can't help but love - even the 'bad' guys.
I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I bit a nail or two off. Olson's characters are so endearingly wonderful, I feel like I took a journey with a rag tag group of buddies myself! I love the kind of books where you get so absorbed and lost in the story that you forget you're even reading at all, and Olson definitely delivers!
I enjoyed the whole series. It had adventure, fast action, and romance. The storyline gave attention to each character, providing for great character development. This final book in the series provided the same action-packed adventure with a very satisfying conclusion.
I loved every single book in the series. I'm so sad I've finished them now, I hope there is another series to discover. If you haven't read the ungovernable then I thoroughly recommend that series by this author too. Loved that series as much as this one
