Black Meadow Pack Book One Only the hottest sex can cool a wolf in heat... After her sister is bitten by a werewolf, geneticist Sophia Reece begins researching shape-shifters and isolates a gene she calls Furry Beast--FB for short. But in her excitement over her discovery--dancing in the lab is never a good idea--she has a teeny little accident with the samples, one canine, one feline, and winds up landing on the syringes, pointy side up. Werewolf Chase is head over heels in lust with Sophia. He can't stop thinking about the human's sexy body or how badly he wants to get her naked. But she acts as if he has fleas. So why, all of a sudden, does she stare at him like a wolf in heat? And what smells like cat? When she experiences her first mating heat, Sophia isn't prepared for the new feelings she's experiencing, and her secret desire for Chase refuses to remain under wraps. For Chase, this is his wildest fantasy come true--to finally get his hands on the curvy, caramel-skinned Latina. But when some serious predators come sniffing around her research, Sophia will have to find out what she's really made of, and Chase will have to decide if he's man--or wolf--enough to make things permanent...

Sharp Change by Milly Taiden

Sharp Change is the first novel written by Milly Taiden, her writing is fantastic, she bring us a sexy shifter/paranormal story that is definitely an adult read. Milly’s writing flows well that story was easy to read and I couldn’t stop till I reached the end. I loved the added humor and the comments you can tell the author knew what she was doing when she wrote the character’s in her novel.

We meet Sophia is a strong willed female trying to figure out the shifter DNA. Her sister was attacked by a shifter and a lot has happened to the sisters, including meeting the alpha and beta of the Black Meadows Pack. Chase the alpha of the pack knows he wants Sophia and will do whatever it takes to have her.

This is a hot sexy paranormal romance. I have rated it 4 stars and would recommended to anyone who likes adult paranormal read. I cannot wait to read anything else Milly Taiden writes as I really enjoyed her writing style.

The debut release from Milly Taiden is hotter than an Aussie barbeque in the middle of summer! Smokin!!

"Chase's look was hot, wicked, and not appropriate for minors."

Milly Tilden has a way with words that made me giggle constantly. You can tell her great sense of humour from the way she weaves smart ass comments into every page. Loved it.

Chase is the dominant alpha willing and eager to protect his mate. And Sophia is the strong minded female who doesn't need a minder. Their relationship takes off like a rocket and doesn't come back down till the final page.

The sex hit the XXX steamy mark and included a little bit of everything. There was definitely a lot of stamina for these two horny shifters.

Milly also put a brand new spin on the common paranormal/shifter story which I found very enjoyable.

This is going to be one extremely dirty, hot and steamy series. Two thumbs up!!

What was with that beginning? It lacked so much focus I think it needs to be prescribed with ADD medication. For at least 4 pages on alternating paragraphs it went a little something like this:

"I have made an awesome breakthrough! Why is my sex life so pathetic? Yet I have unlocked the mysterious secrets of genetics! But hot guy the reader hasn't seen yet, teehee! I need to dance because my genius knows no bounds! Oops, I appear to have fallen on to my tray of sharps and stabbed myself with a known mutagen because I disregarded any form of lab safety protocol! Oh well, let's go home for the weekend because what could possibly go wrong?"

Uh-huh.

If you just want smut then this is absolutely fine for your needs, but I need something that's a little more than sex strung between the bare minimum of a fluff plot. I also like things to make sense and have a proper explanation and that is completely lacking in this to the point that I still don't know what the main character was originally doing with the "Furry Beast" gene. Was she isolating it? Sequencing it? Manipulating how it was expressed? Synthesising it? The answer to all of these seems to be "yes, and screw you science!"

Deliciously steamy, this sexy little tale had some of my favorite tropes -- unrequited love (well, lust, at least), mating heat, and a plain/realistic heroine.

Some of the steamy elements felt a bit gratuitous, but honestly I think that was just me being cranky when I happened to pick this up.

A fun, sexy read perfect for these cold fall nights.

4/5 Stars, with a full review to possibly follow.

This story reminded me so much of an Eve Langlais book that I nearly shelved it on my "eve-langlais" bookshelf...

'Sharp Change' was silly, sexy, fluffy-fun that was admittedly somewhat entertaining in the heat of the moment, but pretty darn forgettable in the end.

Yooo this was so nice??? I thought I was going to hate the cat-side of her, but it’s okay, she’s still also a wolf.

It was very abrupt in two places: when they decided to be mates, and the ending.

I would’ve like both to be explored a bit more.

Milly Taiden is a remarkable storyteller and I'm always bouncing around anxiously waiting to read her next release. This one being the first book in a new series Sharp Change.

A pretty fast-paced story where we get to meet new faces! I always enjoy Milly's characters they're full of life love and passion and an awesome sense of humor.

We are sometimes our own worst critic we're quick to put ourselves down or see ourselves in a whole different light than others see us. Sophia is basically a lab right with a sister totally opposite of her . the shy quiet vs the outgoing dramatic.
When the Alpha's brother falls tea kettle over end in love, he thinks his brothers a bit crazy so sure it won't ever happen like that for him.

Then crazy hits the fan and shy meets sex on a stick and all bets are off. Wolves, Cats, Hyena's oh my. Milly puts a mix of species and personalities, drama of old hurts and even old points of views giving us a first story full of hot scenes, a bit of danger, some aw moments and there's a part that I just really fell in love with. I won't say what it is but when you read it maybe you'll agree. The way it was described I could have been right there.

I read and reviewed this book freely and honestly. Enjoy

New and Improved Sharp Change by Milly Taiden!!

The Black Meadow Pack is my favorite series by Milly Taiden and now that it has been expanded, it 100 times better. We get a little more back story as to why Sophia decided to create her serum and the plot is much more meatier then the original. Sophia is a scientist who has dedicated herself to isolating the shifter gene so she can create a serum that will allow her younger sister to return to her human state. She was attacked by a rogue wolf shifter and turned against her will and wasn’t excepting the change very well. An accident in the lab leads to Sophia being injected with pure DNA strands from not just one but two different shifter breeds and puts her in more danger the she anticipated when someone finds out what she has done and wants her research. Chase is the Alpha of the Black Meadow pack and has wanted shy sweet Sophia from the moment he saw her. When her new shifter status triggers her first heat, Chase is finally able to claim his woman but he also has to keep her safe and help her solve the mystery of who is after her and why they would want her research.

Never underestimate the geeky girls.

I loved this book. This is Chase and Sophia's story. Sophia's sister is attacked one night by a rogue wolf shifter. She vows right then to find a cure so her sister will never have to experience such pain again. Chase now's that Sophia is his mate, has known since the first time he saw her in the hospital with her sister the night of the attack. While Sophia is working one night in the lab she accidentally sticks herself with pure wolf and cat DNA. That's ok surely just a drop of each won't affect her. Oh she's sorely mistaken and when her first heat hits she'll have to decide if she really wants Chase or not. Chase is all for helping Sophia through her heat that is until he realizes that some one is after her and her work. Can Chase get Sophia through her heat and keep her safe? Who would want her work? Can they get to the bottom of this mystery and keep each other safe? I loved these characters. I loved this book. I highly recommended this author and this book.

In case you haven't paid attention to my reviews... I love this author! Her characters are always so witty, sassy, fun and um, sexy?! Duh. Ok, so Sharp Change. Yes, I asked what the hell happened to the book before this, there isn't one. But, the way Sophia starts the book, you feel like there should have been. I feel gipped out of Julia's story! Anyways. Chase, drool worthy - and possessive, true Alpha. Sophia, smart, very smart, and kick ass. I love her attitude.

With lines like this: "The man had so much sex appeal her girl parts were ready to lift a white flag in surrender just by looking at him." You know you're in for a sexy story! This book doesn't let you down.
"Oh good Lord, help me not attack this man and tear those shorts off that sexy ass." I say, please do! The plot is interesting and you're in for some surprise where Sophia is concerned!! Enjoy

Sisters!!!!

A true story of love for her sister. It was great that all the action comes because one sister tries to save the other from something they did not understand. It was a laugh out loud great story.

This plotline starts from the very beginning. The story starts with the circumstances on why she feels like she needs to research shifter DNA and find a way to eradicate it. While the storyline moved in an unanticipated way that I wasn't expecting, it is more about mating, suspense, and even a bit thrilling. I really don't want to ruin the story but the plotline just happens in the first chapter and you do not really get the sense that she is shy but that it's stated that because she has a personality change and her family notices. While it does state that she has a complete change over it also emphasizes how in certain situations she would have cowered or would have walked away because she was so shy. While at times it had its moments of comedy it really wasn't heavy on it just made me laugh in certain moments. There are multiple perspectives of people who are interacting from the hero and heroine to the person who is after her. I don't know why the author implicated the person who goes after her in the storyline but it also showed a different perspective of the shifter world that she is building. While his narration was a surprise it did give to the suspense of what was happening and how his actions can be explained, I don't know if the author is going to continue his storyline because it seems that how it was going to.
While the story was steamy and thrilling, it was also a surprise where this author was taking the story.

My Rating: ❤❤❤
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book will never be a star player but definitely made the team. I would recommend to a friend.
Book Description:
Only the hottest sex can cool a wolf in heat...

But when some serious predators come sniffing around her research, Sophia will have to find out what she's really made of, and Chase will have to decide if he's man--or wolf--enough to make things permanent.

My Thoughts:
I did not enjoy Sharp Change as much as Wynter's Captive. I found the premise to be a little silly. A trained researcher falling victim to her own research?!?! It seemed a bit far fetched and unbelievable...especially the how of it.

Sophia and Julia were not particularly likeable. Julia's theatrics were overkill and Sophia's seemed a bit too combative an argumentative for someone like Chase.

The climax of the story was rather anti climactic. It felt hastily thrown together because the bad "guy's" rationale made little sense. Very tenuous.

The story also seemed to end rather abruptly...it needed an epilogue or something so that the ending wasn't so drastically sharp.

Sharp Change wasn't a bad read, but it was fairly unremarkable. Hopefully, the next book in the series will pack a bit more punch and have a plot that does not border on nonsensical.

Reading Time: 2.5 Hours

Sharp change is a short story which is action packed and full of plenty of romance. It is a very fast paced read as the characters are put into a situation that calls for action straight away, and once they do there is no turning back.

Sophia is a human who runs a lab and one of her side projects is working on shifter genes. She is a petite girl, with low self esteem as she sees herself as short, fat and geeky looking because she is smart and wears glasses. Her sister is better looking, but is also a drama queen. But after an accident at the lab Sophia's life is about to change forever!

Chase is the Alpha male wolf and leader of the pack. He is very intelligent and very intimidating. But also really HOT! (Seriously, when are they not??) He has had his eyes set on the sister of his brother’s new wife, but she doesn't appear to be interested in him. He is upfront with everyone else in his life, but this one girl he can't approach.... seriously, I felt that he needed to get a grip!

But once Sophia and Chase meet, I was in for a very fast ride! The story flowed together fluently and the plot was captivating. There is great chemistry between all of the characters, not just because of romance, but loyalty too. There are some gruesome animal fight scenes, romance and very detailed sex scenes! It is a fabulous read and I think Tilly has written an amazing story!

Sophia is a geneticist whose sister was attacked by a werewolf, so she decides to find a cure. When she finally isolates the gene she ends up accidentally injecting herself with two animals. She doesn’t tell anyone but everyone finds out when she goes into heat. Chase has wanted Sophie a long time and now that she is in heat he decides to make his move. Someone knows what Sophie has discovered and wants her research, now Chase has to protect Sophie and decide if he wants her as his mate. Sophie is a funny woman, she is clumsy, giving and has some self esteem issues. Chase is an alpha womanizer, he wants Sophia and he protects her when needed. This was a cute story with some suspense thrown in to shake things up. I liked the quirkiness of the heroine and the protectiveness of the hero. The sex scenes were hot and the mystery of who was behind the attempt to steal Sophia’s research added an extra conflict to the story. My only problem is that I wanted the story to be longer. I wanted more background on the characters and to see their life a little bit after their problem is solved. Other than that I really enjoyed the book.

Book one in Black Meadows Pack series by fabulous Milly Taiden.
Sophia is a geneticist and a little shy but one night her sister is attack by a wolf and ends up in hospital. Sophia thinks she losing her sister until alpha of meadows pack and beta turn up at the hospital to introduce Julia to her new pack.
I love that the story starts really with Sophia and Chase as secondary characters with Julia Sophia sister being turned into a werewolf and meeting beta of local pack and her forever mate.
Sophia is a great character funny smart and clumsy which cause issues when she accidentally falls over and infects herself with not one by two were specifies wolf and large cat.
Chase is a great sexy alpha that absolutely adores his clumsy curvy but smart mate.
The sex is very saucy and with meeting of mates happens a lot but doesn’t feel like all sex no story.
This book have a similar feel to Eve Langais Freakin Shifter series which I absolutely love. Only had this book two days and I could’ put it down. Fantastic HEA

Sophia's world is flipped upside down when her sister Julia is bitten by a rogue wolf.
Soon after she meets her mate in beta wolf shifter River.
Sophia isn't as confident, outgoing, or brave as Julia.
Sophia is the shy, studious, and nerdy.
Which goes great with her career as a lab tech.
When she makes a breakthrough in reversing her sisters ability to shift, Sophia is ecstatic!
Months of hard work have paid off.
But in her enthusiasm she makes a costly mistake.
Now Julia isn't the only shifter in the family and perhaps the biggest hurdle for Sophia is...
She's in heat.
Yet her brother-in-law and Alpha Chase is ready, willing, and able to help her with that.
But the fun doesn't end there.
Other parties know about Sophia's research and they want it.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and was not compensated in any way.

Sharp Change has my favorite type of heroine. Sophia is shy, zaftig, and smart as can be. When her sister is bitten by a rogue werewolf and is forever changed Sophia wants to give her choices. She has finally figured out which strand of DNA contains the shifter gene. Unfortunately when returning her samples to the safe Sophia accidentally stabs herself with both lion and wolf shifter DNA. Her life is about to get very interesting. Alpha wolf Chase is Sophia’s mate. He is her best shot of surviving the changes that are happening to her.
This book is a sizzling hot paranormal romantic suspense with smoking hot good guys, some creepy bad guys and a whole lot of fun.

Awesome start to the series. I loved Sophia and Chase right from the start. A smart, shy women who gets mixed up in things shes not prepared for. Chase is the hot Alpha you can't help but fall in love with. This is a hot read with a twist of action and fun. This is a re-release but I never read the previous one. I can see even as a short story why the Author would expand this into a novel. Amazing Universe that I want to know more about. Can't wait for the next. Review also available at The Smut Report.

Heat Factor: At a minimum, bordering on too much sex.

Character Chemistry: Literal chemistry. They smell each other and they know they’re mates.

Plot: Scientist develops shifter gene stripping technology. What could possibly go wrong?

Overall: Shifter books are ridiculous and also kind of my favorite thing.

Shifter romance is a thing I had very little experience with prior to starting the blog, which is a tragedy. Shifter romance is AMAZING. Therefore, when I was looking for some smut for our Hispanic Heritage Month / Latinx celebration, I had to have this one. How could I not want to read a book about a scientist who accidentally turns herself into shifter, finds her true mate, and solves a mystery in the meantime? Actually, solves a mystery that arises as a direct result of the science she’s been doing in her off hours. Technicalities.

Let’s see. Dr. Sophia Reese and her sister move to Black Meadows, a safe, little town in the Midwest that’s far from Sophia’s past. As the book opens, Sophia’s sister Julia has been bitten by a rogue werewolf during a walk in the woods, and Julia’s become a werewolf herself. As she undergoes her first shift, Sophia watches with horror and vows that she’ll use her science powers to give her sister the option not to be a shifter.

Six months later… (Really? Six months? Seems like not the amount of time it will take for a genetic breakthrough, right?) Sophia discovers the shifter gene, trips, and accidentally stabs herself with pure lion and pure wolf shifter DNA, thereby becoming a shifter herself. Then, because obviously if you mess with DNA people will want to steal the science for their own nefarious ends, we come to the actual plot. This involves humans, hyena shifters, and a significant amount of sex. I’m not sure that the sex advances the plot, but it’s a large portion of the story, so I feel it shouldn’t be understated.

Okay, so Julia is married to the pack beta, River, who is the brother of the pack alpha, Chase. Sophia has had eyes for Chase ever since he walked into her sister’s hospital room, but she’s terribly shy and she’s also a big, beautiful woman. She just cannot even be in the same room as man-candy Chase, because why would a studly, muscled, alpha werewolf man want a voluptuous geek? For his part, Chase is panting (see what I did there?) for Sophia, but he’s not going to chase (I’m on a roll) a woman who can’t stand to be in the same room with him. Chase is howling (teehee) with frustration and unspent lust.

I’m irrepressibly giggling as I think about this story. Taiden spends pages and pages, chapters even, talking about how shy and withdrawn Sophia is, then she turns into a dual shifter, sheds her shyness in a hot minute, and shacks up with Chase for three days BECAUSE SHE’S IN HEAT.

Because Sophia is half (one third?) cat, she purrs and curls herself around Chase, who is like, “I don’t know where this shifter in heat came from but I am more than willing to shack up until her heat is over–and mate with her forever–when her human brain surfaces and consents, of course.” Um, where did your shy go, Sophia?

Anyway. After all this amazingosity (I still cannot get over it. I don’t even care if anything else made sense, the female shifter in heat was everything I’ve ever wanted but didn’t know it.), we move on. Sort of. There continues to be a ridiculous amount of sex. Like, hi, someone is not only trying to steal Sophia’s research, but is also ransacking houses and blowing up doors and kidnapping pack members to force Sophia to give up the research…do you really have time and energy for all the sex? It is a very good stress reliever at the end of a rough day. I’ll give them that. Plus I suppose we can allow for the horniness accompanying finally getting to jump in the sack with the person you’ve been fantasizing about since you met them. Six months ago. That’s a lot of fantasies.

If I’m so over the moon about some things in this book, why isn’t it a recommended read? Well, generally speaking, the suspense plot was fine, but it didn’t thrill me. When I picked it up, and even in the first couple chapters where we were all getting super clear that Sophia is really shy and doesn’t stand a chance with a hottie like Chase, I had thought that we were going to have a story about this relationship and becoming a shifter. I clearly have not read enough of this awesome sub-genre because I really should have understood that it doesn’t matter how shy one is if one automatically has a perfect mate that is simply found using smell, and what’s the point of dating or romance at that point because insta-love is just as good. Obviously.

For real, do not read this book for the romance. The sex? Yes, sure. If you don’t need some kind of slow burn emotional connection, because you 100% will not get that. Alternatively read it for the suspense plot. It’s kinda bonkers, but it’s also a good time. I do agree with Holly that romance is not really the place to get your suspense fix, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it. Also, Sophia has (frankly realistic, IMO) hangups about her weight, and I understand that some readers are looking for a BBW story in which the heroine really embraces herself without those hangups. In that context I think Sophia does mostly accept herself, she just doesn’t think Brad Pitt is going to come calling (who is the next generation’s Brad Pitt, BTW?) and she tells herself she shouldn’t eat so much… While eating. See? Realistic.

Really, just read it because all the macho alpha werewolf behavior and the biting to mate and the sniffing people and things and the humans-but-not in heat is amazing.

Another witty, intelligent story with love, action and a Happily Ever After. Take a clutzy genius, some serious serum, a hot pack Alfa and the things Milly Taiden comes up with are truly engaging. I have loved every book this author has penned!

****SPOILER ALERT****

*WARNING* story contains explicit sexual content
I'm all honesty, I could NOT FINISH this. This super smart, very careful, almost OFF scientist accidentally stand herself with her own research? Come on!! She is so why she can't even be in the same room as the hot as af alpha wolf, but by the second or third chapter their banging each other's brains out. NOPE! I realized there's creative licensing and all that and my favorite genre is PNR, but this just seems to ridiculous for me and I forced my to read about half of before I just could go any farther. 🤷
