Provides a detailed understanding of program management. Updates to the Third Edition Program Life Cycle assigned its own chapter to provide details of the unique set of elements that make up the program management phase; highlights the full scope of program management and clarifies the supporting processes that complete the delivery of programs in the organizational setting; and more detailed definition of program management within an organization, including the fundamental differences between project, and program management. Original.
The Standard for Program Management is a useful tool for project managers who want to learn about grouping related projects into programs in a coordinated manner and comprehend relationships between projects, programs, and portfolios. You can find comprehensive information on Program Activities and Program Management Performance Domains as well as their interaction. The book lacks examples and information on how actually to create a Program Management Plan, and for that, additional material would be great.
Useful information, but it is written in an almost incomprehensible style. I needed to re-read several sentences multiple time understand what was being conveyed. The Head First group at O'Reilly need to tackle this book next.
It is a standard book. Read it twice for my exam preparation. It is extremely dry just because it speaks about standard. I think more visuals can be added to explain in more detail. Small 140 pages read.
It's a good introductory book when you are a project specialist. You should complement your education with another book that covers program topic in more detail.
PMI Standard related to Program Management. Like the PMBOK Guide, it is a reference when you are grouping projects into programs. It is not a book to teach you program management. it is reference.
Padrão do PMI para Gerenciamento de Programas. Como o PMBOK Guide, ele é uma referencia quando você estiver agrupando projetos em programas. Não é um livro para ensiná-lo a gerenciar programas. Ele é uma referência de consulta.
The second edition is much better than the first edition we have to admit! But still falls short on lots of important aspects of program management. Just like the PMBoK although this is meant as a standard, but it really just a framework!
Not useful for software development projects. Extremely high-level framework and very little of practical takeaway value here. May have some use at companies where old-school PMOs exist like Boeing. You probably only need this book if you are studying for a PMI test.
