Finding My Way

Rate this book
The true story of a child's fight for survival.

"People say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. There is some truth to that. However I'm an example of those things making you weaker as well. When I remember my childhood it’s similar to reliving a nightmare. And it is true that some of these events have made me stronger. They say when you overcome and survive you emerge a stronger person. When I look back and picture that little girl of only 11 years old holding a straight edge razor blade in her hand and making cuts on her tiny wrists, I ask “Am I stronger now than then?” The answer is no. Now I just have many more reasons to not make that final cut."

"I remember standing in the bathroom, holding the straight edge razor to my wrists, trying to make that one good cut. I wasn’t strong enough to go through with it. Then I pondered on just taking her medications and ingesting them all. I decided against that also. I was fearful that it would just make me sick and that I would survive. I thought death was a much better alternative to the life I was living. I had read about heaven. There they said, was a place with no pain, sadness or hurt. I read in the Bible about Jesus and the angels. I knew they would love me. I was even pretty sure they would hug me and hold me."

As you walk along with this child in her journey you will be inspired.

Reading stories about unhappy childhoods is always depressing. However, this one DOES have a light at the end.

I was lucky enough to have a very happy childhood and reading a book like this just makes me all the more grateful for my good fortune. That doesn't mean I can sympathize with the author though.

It was nice to read that even after everything the author went through she managed to grow into a honest adult and a great mother.
Notice I didn't say perfect mom, as it is impossible to be a perfect parent.

What her daughter said to her at the end made me tear up.

Thanks for sharing your story!

This book is different than anything I have ever read before. I guess it is because the author opens up and shares her story with no reservations.
It will make you want to cry for the author when she was a child and reach through time to give her a heartfelt hug.

The other thing that is unique is even though I do not personally know the author in real life, after reading this book I feel like she is one of my close friends. (Of course, she probably doesn’t feel the same way!)

True stories always bring things to another level for me, and this book was no exception.
If you want to be inspired by one persons true story of how she rose above her situation and bettered herself then this is the book for you.

This an an unforgettable book, and I am sure I will be reading it again. I will DEFINITELY be on the lookout for other books by this author.

As a mother I have a very hard time reading about children being abused and ignored. Unfortunately there is no *test* you have to take before becoming a parent. This story, the authors childhood and young adult life, just goes to show the long term affects that happen because of neglect.

This book is not all doom and gloom. It is also an inspirational story and goes to show what a person can accomplish no matter WHAT their past circumstances.

You can really tell the author just wanted to share her story so she could help others.

Highly recommend!

I am always slightly wary about reading memoirs. Honestly, sometimes LIVING your life is incredibly boring so it is hard to believe that READING about someone else's life will be interesting.

However I was happy to be proven wrong with this book. It was very well written. There was enough information to keep you engaged the entire time without being to wordy.

The way it was written gives you a unique insight into the authors life. Almost like the author is sitting next to you and telling you the story personally.
Very enjoyable.

I read this on the recommendation of a friend. She enjoyed it and thought I might as well. She was right!

Reading about the author's story was like reading a reality TV show...except so much better. It felt like I knew the author personally when I was done.

Some people may not enjoy reading it the way it is written, but I am sure lots of people (like me) will.
I can definitely relate to this story and it is nice to know I am not alone.
