The Other C-Word

Rate this book
Can she overcome her consuming desire for him? Can he make her comfortable with the other C-word... commitment?

Marley Mason is dreading the arrival of the new business consultant. After all, this man will most likely outsource her job to China. The last thing she would expect is a case of mistaken identity, leading to false accusations of kidnapping when she attempts to pick up the wrong man at the airport, or worse... that she would have such a visceral reaction to the right man.

Rick Randy is super sexy, scandalously flirty and perfect masturbation material, but a relationship is out of the question. Rick is contracted on a temporary basis to fix Marley’s ailing company, then pull out, although as he expresses to Marley, pulling out is difficult for him, in more ways than one! Marley’s feelings range from utter confusion to intense contemplation as Rick charms his way into her life. All of those C-words Marley can control, but it’s the other C-word she fears—commitment.

4 Rick Randy stars!

If you are looking for your next feel good, funny read, look no further. The Other-C Word was all kinds of hilarious, fun and sexy, but there were also an actual story too!
Sex was real- tangible, visceral and primitive. Love was mystical, elusive, vague and obscure. Sex was atmospheric, but love was ethereal. I chose sex every time.

Marley doesn’t do relationships and she doesn’t do love. She doesn’t sleep around, but the guys she is with know what it is. It’s sex. Just sex. Marley works at a company that’s bringing in a consultant and it’s her job to pick him up at the airport. After a hilarious debacle where she almost kidnaps an old man, Rick and Marley are on their way. They flirt. Rick is very attractive, but he’s unavailable. He has a girlfriend.

The two work closely together. You can feel the sexual tension humming between them. Marley feels it. Every time she’s near Rick. Every time she looks at him. She won’t go there, but she can’t control her thoughts...
He has a girlfriend. He’s your boss. Look at that silky hair. Crap no! He’s not about casual consensual. Look at those hard abs... wonder what else is hard? Fuck! Rick was my Kryptonite.

When Rick suddenly becomes available, they can no longer deny the attraction they share for one another. It’s not just one sided. Rick wants Marley just as much as she wants him. Marley doesn’t date. It’s important Rick know all her rules before jumping into anything. Rick is okay with that. He’s only in town for three months so it makes things simpler all around.
“Look, neither one of us can do a relationship, right? You apparently have some aversion to it, and I’m leaving in three months. I just ask that during the next three months, you are completely min, and I will be completely yours. It’s my hard-and-fast rule. Can you agree to it?”

Rick and Marley together... smokin hot!
 photo 61790984-3111-4bec-92e9-2e288754577b_zps97830765.jpg
“Don’t worry, baby. I’m going to worship every inch of your delicious body, and then I’m going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk straight.”

Little by little, Rick starts incorporating himself into Marley’s life more and more. Not just at work and with sex, but with her family, her friends, going out, chipping at her walls. Marley has things she can’t tell Rick. Very few people know. It’s one of the main reasons she strays about from that big C-word....commitment. Rick wants Marley. It doesn’t matter what happened in the past, he’s fallen for her. After some sound advice, she realizes she wants that too, but she’s still not sure if she can take that step. Can she come clean and come to terms with her past? Or will she let it continiue to control her?
“Marley, there are a lot of men who can make you feel good for an hour, or a night, or a week. There’s very few that can make you feel cherished all the time.”

Rick and Marley were such a funny couple. I had so many laugh out loud moments while reading this book. To laugh while reading is a great feeling. But it wasn’t all giggles. There was a serious issue at play. Marley had something traumatic happen in her past. She’s lucky she had a good friend and close family to help her deal. I loved her family. Her mom, sisters, best friend Dillon, and even Adam. They were all wonderful. Marley was a hoot. And then there was Rick. All kinds of sexy, but very sweet. And he was funny to boot. It was a clever book- I loved all the C-words at play. A very enjoyable read for me!

3.5 maybe.

Although I wasn’t a dressy kind of girl, I did enjoy a man in a good suit, and this was an all you can eat breakfast buffet of hot men in suits

I liked this one but did not LOVE it. I finished The Do-Over and really liked it so decided to stick with this author. Bad idea, maybe, as my expectation were too high. I nearly stopped reading about 40% in but it did improve for the last 50% or so.

Does love die out, like the light in a dead star?

Marley annoyed me a little bit. Yes, she had issues but she also had help and she was too stubborn to take it. Overall a fairly good read but nowhere as enjoyable as The Do-Over!

Sometimes I feel so happy,
Sometimes I feel so sad.
Sometimes I feel so happy,
But mostly you just make me mad.

A hot couple, one sexy denim suit, a wedding, a traumatic past, spread sheets, bar fights, Zesty bars, German chocolate cake, and sadly a plant is murdered all in the course of this story.

This is the story of Marley Mason, a woman who has demons and doesn’t do relationships. She is surrounded by her kickass family and loves her job. I have to say that she was a really likable main character.

"Sex was real – tangible, visceral and primitive. Love was mystical, elusive, vague and obscure. Sex was atmospheric, but love was ethereal. I chose sex everytime.”

Marley meets Rick Randy who has been hired to fix issues in the company Marley works for. These two have AMAZING banter and sexual chemistry from their very first scene together.

This author can write some hilarious scenes! Kudos to her because I really laughed out loud during this book, the airport scene, the waiting period and so on.

”Maybe, you could wear your hair up. It’s distracting to me.”

I gathered my locks in my hands and placed them on top of my head. “Like this?”

“Fuck, don’t do it in front of me. Get the hell out of my office, Marley!”

Marley doesn’t do relationships. Rick is currently in a relationship and when they can’t resist the attraction any longer a deal is reach made for the extent of Rick's stay in Chicago.

Readers know how this goes. They fall in love. FYI…they are smoking hot in the bedroom as well.

”Well, you are. You are amazing.” His smile turned mischievous. “Baby, we haven’t even made it to the bed yet.”

Things aren’t always so simple especially when your demons haunt you.

”Rick was perfect and I was a perfect mess.”

Obstacles are conquered while Marley and Rick find their happy ending.

Commitment, clean, coping, conflicted, cunnilingus are just some of the C-words used in this book. I think the C-words I would use for this one is clever and charming.

Job well done M.K. Schiller!

If I could use one word to describe this book it would be...

I loved it! What a sweet, fun, light read!

Oh this book was soo funny!!
There is absolutely no valid reason that anyone CANNOT like this!!

Marley works for a company who seriously needs help. When Marley is told that she needs to fetch this new business consultant, never did she expect someone as Dashing and handsome as Rick Randy!

After Marley totally embarrasses herself at the airport at their first meeting, and Rick then requests her to be his assistant- this book had my glued to my iPad!

So begins their Connection...

The banter between these two is hysterically funny! Possibly the best part.
But they both like each other but won't admit their feelings...

Until they do but its a 'friends with benefits' situation only for 3 months with rules:

1)No dates
2)No Sleepovers

AKA.....

NO COMMITMENT!!!

Why is Marley like this?

She has issues because of things that's happened to her in her past.

She's scared...

You can see Marley and Rick falling in love but Marley cant- so she pushes Rick away... 'To save him'

Rick- this man is truly amazeballs!!!!
Yes I said it, because he deserves it!

Love can get through anything if you let it!

Not only is this book funny but there are some awesome supporting characters especially the Pussy... Errrr I mean Cat!!
:D

GO ON, READ IT!!

4.5--Charming-Comical-Cute--Stars!!!

So I kind of sort of LOVED this one!!!

The Other C-Word--in case you're wondering--is commitment and Marley is against it 100%. She prefers no strings sex with her "rotation" to relationships. Until Mr. Cheapskate comes along.

Meet Mr. Cheapskate:

Marely is sent to pick up said Mr. Cheapskate at the airport. This was the start of my laugh-fest! Mr. Cheapskate is also known as Rick Randy. And Rick the Dick has come to save the company Marley works for. Rick requests Marley as his personal assistant. And so it all begins...

The banter between Marley and Rick was the best part of the book. They are both attracted to each other but keep denying their feelings for each other, especially Marley.

Not to mention that Rick has a girlfriend back home that is prominently displayed on his desk at work. Eventually Marely and Rick get on the same page. First things first....checking for STDs. Yes, sexually transmitted diseases. Marley and Rick are very responsible like that.

And now we wait....the one week waiting period....Funniest. Shit. Ever. Seriously, I think this was my favorite part of the book.

”Maybe, you could wear your hair up. It’s distracting to me.”

I gathered my locks in my hands and placed them on top of my head. “Like this?”

“Fuck, don’t do it in front of me. Get the hell out of my office, Marley!”

And then finally FINALLY at the end of the week they get it on...

Marley keeps fighting the whole commitment thing but eventually agrees to start "dating" Rick. But she won't commit 100%. And she won't spend the night with Rick. Rick's falling in love with Marely and if Marley is completely honest with herself she's falling in love with Rick too. But she's scared because some things have happeneded in her past that make her the way she is.

Everything eventually comes out and bless Rick's heart he's so patient and loving to Marely but Marley pushes Rick away...thinking she's saving him.

I get it, I do....but I didn't like it.

Eventually Marely and Rick get their HEA. I know I didn't mention Marley's family much in the review but they were fantastic supporting characters. They were so supportive of each other and added so much to the story. All of the "pussy" conversations at the dinner table....

Such a great read....loved everything about it!!

Let’s start with one little question, was I the only perv that thought the C word meant c*nt not commitment? I mean, look at the cover! It’s almost mocking me, before I read the blurb I was 100% sure it’s about that word!

Anyway, The Other C-word is fantastic read! Sexy, amusing, quirky and with one fine piece of hot man in suit and feisty heroine. Everything I love in my book packed in great romance novel that made me have a blast! I laughed pretty hard, almost crying few times. I was hot and bothered more than few times and my heart ached with pain once or twice for Marley. There were more times I could count when I swooned and melted.

Marley is working in a small, family firm that have finance problems. Biggest corporations are destroying them. So she and her coworkers are afraid of being fired, especially because they know that boos hired a consultat that’s task is giving the firm better feedback and solid ground.
Rick Randy is the man who has been haired to fix their company’s problems. But he’s nothing like Marley thought he would be. He’s an epithome of sex appeal and more. In his designer’s suits with cocky smirk and flirty attitude he crashed Marley.

They have scorching hot sexual chemistry that is out of this word. Explosive passion and lust is always between them. And there is not a moment when Marley isn’t thinking about Rick’s ass in designer pants.

The thing is Marley doesn’t do relationship. Occasional fuck with a hot guy? Hell yeah. Romantic dinners, sleepovers, commitment and love? Not an option. And Rick definitely wants more than a quickie in elevator or backseat.

The plot seems really simple, but what author did with it, crushed my expectations. It was so good, I am ashmed to confess that I thought it would be meh kind of erotica, and this is not a book like this. At all!

The other C-word is so sexy, so funny and wonderful story I’m high on it. I loved how easily author created this hilarious scenes, I laughed so hard my family thought I’d gone crazy. The more I read the more I coudn’t stop myself.

And the sexual tension? Yummy! Fuck, I think I loved it more when both of them suffered from nasty case of blue balls that when they had actual sex, which was pretty hot too, of course.

Overall, this book is PHENOMENAL READ. Pure sexiness, great humor and touching story with unique characters, family to die for and some really hilarious scenes that The Other C Word in nutshell. It’s a must read for every romance junkie.

3 -- IT WENT FROM FUNNY TO WEIRD -- Stars. This book started off with one of the funniest scenes I have read in a long time, and I was prepared for another great read by this author. And while it was a really good read over all, I felt it got bogged down with a lot of "I can't be with you, but I want you so much" drama as it tried to build the tension and relationship between Rick and Marley.

On the plus side, there were some really hot and tension filled moments between them. The chemistry was great, and Rick was a fantastic guy.

On the down side, it was a bit of a disappointment after just reading her book The Do-Over, which I loved. I guess I was hoping for more of that sharp humor and tension filled romance. I didn't connect with Marley like I wanted to either. She has a problem that holds her back from forming anything more than casual relationships, but I had trouble fully buying this whole plot point and how it was handled. It definitely brought the book down a full star rating for me.

See, I love finding books like this that no one seems to know about, they just come out of no where and they're absolutely amazing.
Bravo Miss Schiller!

This book made me laugh so freaking hard I had to drop my E-Reader for a moment to roll on the floor, made me swoon too many times to count and made me bawl my eyes out for Marley.
Why doesn't this book have more ratings? Seriously! It's the definition of perfection. I haven't read a book like this in such a long time.
I loved, loved, LOVED all the characters, Marley's family was so crazy and funny. And Rick, oh Rick...
description
So the company Marley works for is falling apart or something like that, Richard Randy is the new business consultant, he's supposed to fix the company and get it running again, then pull out *cough*
Rick asks for Marley to be his assistant since she is displaced (She was assistant to Ronald Bellman, head of marketing, but he left) so she agrees.
They work late most nights and develop this witty, flirty and funny relationship.

He utilized my skills during the day and I fantasized about his skills during the night.

They want more, but a relationship is out of the question, they agree to do casual-consensual (not friends with benefits, just benefits) since Marley doesn't do commitment and Rick is leaving to NY in three months.

She agrees under these conditions:-
1. No dinners
2. No hanging out
3. No personal questions
4. She'll never spend the night with him (you'll find out why as you read it).

He agrees under one condition which is that they are 100% exclusive during those three months, she has to be completely his and he has to be completely hers.
description
"I’m going to worship every inch of your delicious body, and then I’m going to fuck you so hard you won’t be able to walk straight."

Still, Rick wants more of her but Marley continues to push him away, fearing that he'll run for the hills once he finds out the truth about her past.

I loved Emmie -Marley's mom- she was so sweet and caring, the bond she shared with her daughters was truly special.

"Marley, there are a lot of men who can make you feel good for an hour, or a night, or a week. There’s very few that can make you feel cherished all the time."

The Other C-Word is a story about a woman who overcomes her fear of commitment. The witty banter between Marley and her sisters -Stevie and Billie- was freaking hilarious, the character development and dialogue was excellent.

There is a HEA and an epilogue. Please read this, it pretty much has everything; Love, heartbreak, humor, sadness AND it had an amazing playlist. It was perfect and you won't be able to put it down, I promise :)

I tried...seriously, I did. I don't know if it was a timing thing but this book seriously did nothing for me.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I loved this author's other book The Do-Over. That book's characters and banter was endearing and hilarious. This book...the heroine just annoyed me. The hero is compared to Chris Pine and should really be hot in my head...until he opens his mouth. Rick is a new consultant hired to cut costs for Marley's company but some of the stuff he said was total sexual harassment. If it was hot, I may look the other way but it was just... just don't open your mouth Rick! His mouth was a total p&ssy-block for me.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The best part of the book was Dillon, Marley's gay best friend and Marley's family. They were quirky and perfect. Family time after dinner...Dish and Dish. Awesome. I guess I was hoping for some steam and not all annoyance. Is it timing? A mood thing for me? Maybe. Chemistry? Zilch! Endearing characters? Zilch. Humor? Almost zilch. I know when characters annoy the f&ck out of me and both of them excelled at that! Oh, and did I mention while douchey Rick is making crude little comments to Marley, her subordinate, he's got a girlfriend back home? Could there be more to that story? I'm sure...if my patience lasted that long.

I read The Other C Word in one sitting and after much laughter, tears and serious swooning, Rick, Marley and Marley’s crazy and lovable family well and truly had me under their spell.

What started out as such a fun and funny read, soon became one of heartbreak, pain and healing. This really was a tale of two books.

The innuendos, the cheeky flirting, the double-entendre’s which introduced this book certainly had the makings of a fun, frivolous and entertaining escape and there were times I really did laugh out loud. My husband thought I’d gone nuts (nothing new there!) The airport scene had me in stitches and this book had, hands down, some of the funniest sexually tense scenes I’ve ever read. Loved it!

“Your eyes are distracting.” – Marley
He grinned. “I kind of need them” - Rick

When Marley heads off to the airport to pick up a Consultant who has been brought in to revitalise the ailing company she works for, little did commitment phobe Marley realise what was in store for her the day her paths would cross with the divine Mr Richard Randy.

“Maybe I could somehow alleviate the danger by inviting him into my fantasies – the ones I had at night when I was alone with my vibrator. I would have to drop one of my other regulars though to fit him in.” - Marley

Mr Richard Randy (no…he doesn’t moonlight as a porn star!) makes quite the impression on Marley, as does Marley on him….though I’m pretty sure, as entertaining and hysterical as her first impression was on Rick, I think it’s one she’d rather forget.

The idealistic, successful, charming and oooooh so gorgeous Mr Randy and the funny, sexy and commitment shy Marley have an instant flirty attraction with sexual chemistry off the charts that will have you fanning yourself and giggling in equal measures. Marley doesn’t do relationships. Richard doesn’t do one night stands. Hmmm how do they approach this when it’s very obvious the air is tangible with sexual chemistry between the two.

‘Sex was real – tangible, visceral and primitive. Love was mystical, elusive, vague and obscure. Sex was atmospheric, but love was ethereal. I chose sex every time.’ - Marley

As Richard is only in town for a short time and Marley doesn’t want a relationships they decide to compromise and see where this intense passion they feel for one another will take them, but each has rules. For Marley, her rules are simple. Well, simple to her anyways.
No dinners, no dating, no personal questions and the most important one of all……she will never spend the night with him. Easy enough right? Hmmm well, maybe.

I silently cursed Rick for turning me on so much with a simple word. Not even a smutty word, but a scientifically correct word. How did he do that? I f I said fellatio, would it turn him on?’ Marley

For Richard, he only has one and it’s non negotiable. Rick will agree to her terms on one condition. Marley must agree to exclusivity for the whole time they are together. This means Marley must give up the 3 guys she has been seeing for casual hook-ups. Marley must be exclusively his and visa versa. Once again, easy enough right?

“Marley, there are a lot of men who can make you feel good for an hour, or a night, or a week. There’s very few that can make you feel cherished all the time.” – Rick

Both agree and so sets the scene for some very funny tense, sexually frustrated times and some very, very hot times between the sheets, on the couch, the balcony, the shower, the floor….well, you get my drift. These two really did steam things up!

“Don’t worry about me, cowboy. I’ve been doing Kegels and eating lots of carrots this week.” <?i> - Marley

Now I was intrigued by Marley’s rules. I wondered why she instigated them and as the story progressed, the reader, along with Rick, would soon unravel the mystery surrounding the thought process of this sharp, witty, sexy, gorgeous girl and what we found out saddened me and broke my heart.

'…..he had the uncanny ability to look straight through me to the deepest, darkest places that I’d never revealed to anyone.’ <- Marley

I didn’t see a lot of it coming and when it did come it kind of knocked me for six. It was indeed sad, but it was dealt with in a beautifully sensitive manner and one that really did make me feel so much for Marley….and Rick for that matter.

“You like to help broken things. That’s your job isn’t it? To swoop in and fix what doesn’t work.. I’m not fucking broken’. – Marley

The Other C Word was such an all-round captivating, humerous and endearing read. It made me laugh out loud at times, it was punctuated with heartbreak here and there, it had some of the warmest, kookiest and lovable characters you could ever come across and I was enamored with them all.. I loved Emmy, Marley’s mother and her vague wonderful personality, and I adored the unique way she had of weaving music into the lives of her children. The music!!! Wow! What a fantastic array of music we got to enjoy throughout this story! I know I was constantly updating my playlist! Loved it!

“My mom was not an innocent. She was a child of the sixties. Unfortunately, she wasn’t born until the seventies….’

I loved Marley’s best friend Dillon for his loyalty and his quirkiness, the hilariously warm interactions between Marley and her sisters, Stevie and Billie stole my heart, and I loved the input of Adam, Stevie’s fiancé. Each was so relatable, so witty and oh so wonderful. They never judged Marley – they loved her implicitly and this family unit was so tight and so strong, you couldn’t help but experience the bond between them.

The Other C Word is about not letting you past define you. It’s about facing your fears, dealing with them, trusting in your heart and letting love in. It shows us the importance of surrounding ourselves with the the ones who will love us unconditionally and reaching out for help when it’s needed. In life we need to feel the pain, see the ugly, experience the worst, to enable us to move on, see the beauty and enjoy the best life has to offer.

….we all need tragedy in our lives.”
“Why do you think we need tragedy?”
“Because it makes us the people we are. It makes us more real. You can’t experience the power of healing if you’ve never been broken, right?”

Beautiful words and so true. There was couple instances where seemed to drag a smidgen yet the ending felt a little rushed and I would have preferred to have ‘experienced’ some of the final scenes rather than be told about them after the effect, but these were very minor issues in what was a truly enjoyable, beautiful, fun read that I didn’t want to end! Every character in this story deserves their own book and I hope they get it. Loved it! A definite “must add” to those TBR’s!

It begun when a colleague faked sickness and our heroine rushed to the airport to pick up Romeo who turned out to be her HEA. Of course, she didn't know that at first.

Their eyes met.

Romeo liked what he saw.

And our heroine went

They flirted.
They worked together.
They flirted more.
They responded to the attraction they have felt right from the moment they laid eyes on each other.

Romeo declared love but heroine said no.
They argued.

And called it quits.

Both heartbroken but tried to move on.
Then something happened and it lead them back to each other's arms.

I'll be honest here, at the beginning of this book I assumed my verdict would be a 2 solid star rating.
I hear you asked why?
Because it wasn't gripping me as much as I'd want it to be.
Don't get me wrong, there were so many laugh out loud dialogues, the characters were funny, sweet and relatable and Mr Romeo was definitely a charmer.
Believe me when I say, this delicious devil will definitely tickle every nook and cranny of your imagination. He just didn't float my boat, he rocked it!
But you see, as a reader I couldn't survive with just teasing, flirting and banging. I need THE STORY. Heck, everyone needs THE STORY. That's the reason why we read.
I was silently cursing and asking what made the author delay THE STORY.
And then it happened. The story showed when I was a little bit over half way in the book. And by golly, did the author give me the story. I devoured the rest with gusto.

Now, I tried my hardest not to spoil the story. The story telling I did above didn't really spoil anything. I even refrained from posting more quotes because you guys should experience all the funnies yourself first hand.

I feel like this book was written specially for me; absolutely everything I love in a story was present in The Other C Word, comical, smart, romantic and full of amazing music. I'm now experiencing mayor book depression because I never wanted this book to end, one thing is for sure, I'll never forget about this amazing characters and I'm sure I will be reading this novel many times in the future. Another C-Word to describe this book Charming.

Marley is a self proclaimed tomboy who doesn't believe in dating, loves her job and has a wonderful close relationship with her mom and two sisters. The company where she works is having financial issues and they've decided to hire a business executive to restructure the work place. When Marley is assigned to pick him up from the airport she never expected to find the most handsome man she's ever seen or to almost be thrown in jail for kidnap attempt (the airport scene was hilarious!!). Rick Randy is smart, sexy and compassionate and he can't get enough of the sarcastic and crazy girl who wears garter belts and now that she's been assigned to be his new assistant he's having a hard time controlling himself around Marley.

Marley has been hurt, she has dark secrets that affect her life in a deep way; so when the sexual tension with her new boss becomes unbearable and they decide to act on it, she finds herself struggling to maintain her non-dating rules, and Rick is determined to become more than friends with benefits.

More than anything I was captivated by Marley's character, her charisma and wit kept me glued to the story, and my heart is still aches for her. I really commend this author for creating this beautiful story that made me laughed and hot and bothered regardless of delicate subject of the plot. I was completely charmed by M.K Schiller's writing and creativity, and another big plus for me was all the amazing music I found while reading this book. This is hands down a MUST READ!!!, don't wait another minute and go read this book, you'll love it.

Who wants to be a part of this family?!

Loved all the characters in this book. Marley's family was completely awesome and hilarious. Love their perverted minds. I could definitely see myself fitting in quite nicely with them.

I love it when I find a "PERFECT" book, a "COMPLETE" book.
A book that can make me laugh so hard, cry, and touched at the same time.
And this book is a "COMPLETE" one.

I enjoyed reading every single page, every scene and I loved all of the characters.

The main characters are adorable.
And the others just make this book more beautiful.

Marley Mason, a beautiful young woman, who has a bitter past.

She works for a company that almost falling apart. And that's the reason the company hires Rick Randy.

Rick Randy is a business consultant. He helps an almost fail company and fixes it.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

And then while working, Rick needs Marley's help. That's why he asked her to be his assistant.

They work together well and develop an hilarious relationship. A full of flirty, funny, but still respectful relationship.

Both of them enjoy at each other companion. But at that moment, they're unavailable.

Once both of them are free, Rick wants her.
But Marley fears of commitment. She doesn't do a relationship, because she's afraid that he'll leave her once he finds out the truth about her past.

The Other C-Word is a beautiful, funny, amazing story.
Plainly written.
Full of angst and an emotionally drowning journey.

Never turn your back on somebody you love, you’ll never forgive yourself

What a great job Ms. M.K. Schiller !!!

So... I had a bit of a hard time getting into this at the beginning. Rick is brought into Marley's company to help fix it. And their meeting was no ordinary one,

R U RANDY

I really liked Rick. He was flirty, sweet, protective, caveman... I could go on. The family was crazy and there was plenty of chuckle-worthy moments. I loved the back and forth banter between Rick and Marley.

Rick are we having a orgy? You've ordered a ton of food

But Marley... I just didn't get her. She was kinda frustrating at times,

That's only because you make it complicated

I wish she just listen to people around her. By 80% I warmed to her and completely understood where she was coming from and it hurt my heart a little.

Ends at 94% and what a lovely ending it was!!!

The Other C- Word by M. K. Schiller is a beautiful read. It is a heartfelt story of two young individuals. It was also funny as hell! The story became deeper and more complex as the plot thickened.

The Other C- Word is a story about the eclectic Marley (named after Bob Marley), who is kind of - short of content with life. However, it is clear that there is a lot of darkness in her past which creates a somber tone. She is an assistant at a marketing firm and is dealt the task of collecting a business consultant from the airport. A lot of things go wrong and she is almost accused of kidnapping at the airport. This is how she met the temporary business consultant, Rick Randy.

Rick is very flirtatious of the bat and Marley is surprised by how responsive she is to this. She doesn't do relationships. It's her hard and fast rule. Rick is a bad idea and he smells of Mr. Commitment ( A word that frightens Marley). Throughout the next four months, Marley does begin to open up and you realise that under this beautiful, smart and talented woman there is a flawed individual. Through their ups and downs, both characters grow together. They form a bond that is so unique, it made me a little jealous.

The Other C- Word is a beautifully written story. It has all the components I love in romance; humour, a great plot, and realistic and authentic emotions. This novel definitely gave me the FEELS. I became so invested in their story. I can't wait to read the other stories in this series. M. K. Schiller definitely deserves more credit for this story.

Who can resist "This Guy?"

Not even Marley, a non-commitment woman regarding her past.

Chris Pine, my cast for Rick Randy

It was an awkward first meeting with Rick at the airport when Marley picked him up. He's going to be her new boss for another 4 months.
She usually wear some tomboy girls outfit, but Stevie , her sister insisted to made her wear skirt, girly thing complete with stocking and garter belt.

Hm, and his name is "Randy", you what it means...he'd become "randy" after seeing her in "that little drama" and her garter belt. This become a joke than , he called her A Garter Belt Girl, she called him a cheapstake, and in Dillon's term, Mr.Big Dick....lol...You're gonna love Dillon!

And as the secret relationship, a secret sexual tension between them, really tortured them at some point.
Marley have an issue about having a commitment, she didn't do relationship. But Rick, his heart already belonged to her right after he saw her at the airport. But a gentleman he is, he's still holding on with his relationship with his girl friend. But after she did some shitty things to Marley and he can't see anybody hurt her, well...that bitch was swept out from his life.
It's not he's cheating or anything, his GF was a bitch and really didn't deserve him.

I loved the tension between them, how they're try hard to keep it professional at work, and at the same time, they sleep together.
What made Rick confused was why Marley insist on NOT spending the night with him.
But the love making was HOT. The shower scene was yummy :)

Well, at the end he finally know why she did that. And again, Rick is a gentleman. He did everything to win her heart and her trust, that he's in love with Marley, whatever broken she is.

I loved Marley's unique family, loved the friendship between Rick and Adam. Loved Dillon, Billie, Marley's funky Mom, and how the family bonding to each other.

Loved, loved, loved the story.
I laugh, I blushes, I cried...all in this story. This one is also a heart warming story I love to read over and over again.

The Other C-Word is a new adult, contemporary storyline that focuses on one woman’s struggle and desire to be accepted for who and what she is. Marley Mason is a beautiful, young woman with some major demons in her past and it is those demons that control her present life. Enter Rick Randy, the man hired to fix the problems at Marley’s company and the man who is hoping for something more from Marley Mason.

The storyline follows Rick and Marley’s growing relationship with another but also highlights Marley’s inability to get close to the men in her life. As with many similar storylines in this particular genre, our heroine has some issues of control, both in and out of the bedroom, but her reasons stem to a horrific childhood – as the ghosts continue to haunt her nightly dreams.

The secondary characters are likeable and relatable. We get to meet Marley’s sisters and her extended family. There is plenty of humor; daily ‘dish’ sessions and their mother is a former groupie with the Grateful Dead. But there is also a quiet acknowledgement that all is not well with Marley and with it comes the realization that each member of the family is willing to sacrifice on order for their beautiful sister to have a normal life.

The relationship between Marley and Rick begins at the airport under one of the most humorous circumstances and continues to grow with each day and encounter. Their attraction to one another is immediate; the sex is sensual, desirous, hot and you can feel the need especially during their one week ‘wait and see’. There were definitely some funny moments and plenty of sexual tension. But their relationship is also emotional and complicated as Marley continues to push Rick away at every opportunity, fearing that the truth about her past will show her in a different light.

If you are a fan of the HEA (which I know we are all) THE OTHER C-WORD is a wonderful and fabulous read. There is humor, passion and anger, heartbreak and falling in love. There is also the potential for a few more storylines-let’s hope M.K. has a few ideas for the future.

I don't think I can ever be objective when it comes to reviewing a book. Of course, I draw the line when the story's obviously messed up or just not convincing or realistic enough, but mostly, I don't really care about the little things. With this book, although it wasn't perfect, the overall feeling that I still got afterwards was one of complete warmth and satisfaction. :)

Pretty good right up until the last 5%, when everything became tell, not show, and VERY rushed. What the hell?

Must ponder more.

World of Romance, Rants and Rave 1st buddy read 2013.

This bk has one adorable Hero/Rick, and is filled with sexual tension, it’s flirty fun early on, there’s hot sex scenes and plenty of romantic drama because of the h/Marley’s fear of commitment due to her trauma from the past. Two people you know are going to fall in love but the story takes its time in the telling. That Rick though….what a keeper and definitely book boyfriend worthy. Rick’s a classy alpha…very possessive from the get go, even before he and Marley became an item (jaw clenching over guys numbers in her phone). He’s bossy, protective, did I mention possessive? sexy hot, sexual innuendo smirking, romantic, gentlemanly, sweet and all kinds of wonderful. (Yea, I’m gushing) And he supposedly looks like Chris Pine!

What bothered me? I don’t like it when it takes one of the characters f-o-r-e-v-a to come clean with their dilemma. Marley sort of got on my nerves when she was pushing Rick away (due to fear) and made me impatient when I wanted her to just tell Rick her problem and move forward with it. But, yes, yes, (forehead smack) I know…that’s part of the story. The build up to the “reveal” of the problem, of course, leads to some angst. The angst is not over the top though (I hate angst…love the drama, but my impatience and angst? Uh uh…they don’t mix well).

Loved Marley’s funky family…they’re all named after someone musical. But Marley’s gay OCD friend Dillon was endearing. Adam, Marley’s soon to be brother-in-law is loveably cool. And just wait until you get to Adam’s wedding vows to Marley’s sister Stevie. To die for! (Be ready to swoon, ladies). It’s a shame the author didn’t write Adam/Stevie’s bk first. There was just enough of these two characters to make you feel like they were worth reading more of (you’ll see).

Overall a cute story with a wonderful Hero but wished the HEA hadn’t been so rushed. It would have been more enjoyable for me to have had it drawn out longer with more dialog . Will be looking forward to what this author does next.
