The House with the Red Light and companion CD composed by Nancy B. Brewer and Rhonda Vincent www.rhondavincent.com

In 1957, the world knew about Elvis but in a mill village in North Carolina, they knew about 16-year-old Tanya.

When her mother ran off, her jilted father turned bitter. He claimed his inability to hold down a job was due to an old war injury but the truth was in the stack of empty whiskey bottles on the porch. Times were hard but Bud Harris found an easy way to make a few extra dollars.

Every day led Tanya closer to the road of no return. On her journey to Nashville she finds herself lost in a world of big tent revivals, rattlesnakes and bluegrass music.

She discovered that all the world is a stage and that a front row seat in church does not guarantee you a seat in Heaven.

Will she find her redemption in the arms of a handsome stranger or in the strings of that old mandolin?

First, I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Nancy B. Brewer and then purchasing her book and the CD with the same title. Nancy and Vernon are a wonderful couple.

Tanya's life as she knows it is turned upside down and inside out after her mother leaves. Tanya's father sees an opportunity to get some quick cash by selling his daughter to anyone in the neighborhood willing to pay. When the red light is on, the house is open for business. Tanya doesn't like what she is forced to do, but has nowhere to escape.

Until, her aunt and uncle come in and rescue her from her father. After figuring out what was going on, Aunt Betty and Uncle Larry seek out the authorities and have her father arrested, and become Tanya's guardians.

Just as Tanya, now called Tammy Sue sees herself having a new life, the devil sneaks in, and Uncle Larry sees an opportunity to makes some money too. Soon Tammy Sue, Aunt Betty, and her only friend, Mindy are part of Uncle Larry's tent revival as a singing group, raking in monies for the church, except it seems that Uncle Larry isn't completely on the up and up...and Tammy Sue wonders can she ever escape her past?

Fast paced and direct

This story reminds me of an adaptation of an old story, parable-ish. It is a good read, fast paced, and an excellent companion to the Rhonda Vincent disc plugged at the end of the book. Not appropriate for sensitive readers, but addresses since real dangers faced still today by those who would follow after God.
