The Trouble with Mojitos

Rate this book
Turquoise blue waters. Sandy white beaches. Mojitos... Film location scout Kenzie Cole has found herself in paradise. Working in the Caribbean for a week is just what she needs to escape the long line of exes in her closet. Though the last thing she expects is to be picked up at the resort bar by a disgraced former Prince!

Luckily for Kenzie, exile is suiting the man formerly known as Prince Fredrik very well. And it’s not long before his rugged, pirate charm is proving hard to resist.

But Rik’s been spending his time in paradise exorcising demons of his own and he has danger written all over him. If Kenzie was sensible she’d run a mile instead of lose herself to lust - although, they do say sometimes you have to get lost before you can be found....

When I say the words pirates, Caribbean, legends and Tortuga I am willing to bet there is no one out there that will not immediately think Pirates of the Caribbean and the delicious always entertaining Captain Jack Sparrow!

But in the movies as we all know the romance does not work out as it should and for me I have always wished it ended a little more romantically then it did. Lucky for me there is the new magical and brilliant read from the very talented Romy Sommer.

The read starts off with the telling of how a pirate kidnapped a princess on the day of her arrival to marry a governor and how the governor made it is life's mission to hunt them down and reclaim his bride.

I am sure you will agree that this is a truly fascinating and very captivating opening scene, it gets even better, for years later this mystery continues when Prince Fredrick aka Rik is living in exile in the Caribbean drinking the days away to fill the emptiness his life has become, he is as good as a pirate hiding from the world, a world he once ruled.

It all changes when a breath of fresh air and shimmering sunshine walks into his life, her name, Kenzie. There to scout land for a pirate movie being filmed she hits dead end after dead end, she want to scout the Island of Tortuga but no one dares to go there, legend has it a governor once cursed the island after losing his bride to a pirate and no one wants to end up having to face the wrath of the Caribbean's most famous curse.

Rik is ready for some adventure and decides to help Kenzie, he agrees to take her to the forbidden island, it is here he discovers there is only one curse and it has nothing to do with losing his life but everything to do with losing his heart to a beautiful princess and suddenly all he needs is Kenzie, only Kenzie does not do royal bad boys , not for longer than one night that is.

The characters of Rik and Kenzie were both very well written and the author let their emotions flow so strongly it was if I could actually touch the heat simmering between then and feel the heartache bouncing from their past wounds.

I loved, loved, loved that the author let Kenzie be all about spunk and go get 'em and never be talked into doing anything you know you will not love! It showed that when we have a dream we need to go after it, if we follow someone else's dream we will never feel that we have reached our own and the wonder of what if will always linger.

I adored Rik from the start, yes in the start he is nothing but a ex prince and drunk as a skunk but even when drunk he had this certain mystery to him that immediately let me as reader know this is one hero that is going to go from bad to absolutely amazing in a very short time, I was not disappointed! I was also reminded how some things in life can seem like the end but in fact it is the start of a new and improved journey on the road to success.

The read also featured some very interesting secondary characters such as Rik's mother who is simply a woman that will do what every mother will do for her children, protect them against any and all harm, there was also the very comical and interesting room-mate to Kenzie, Lee who had me laughing out load as some of the most hilarious tweets, outrageous ideas and sayings.

The backdrop settings were absolutely exquisite! Crystal clear ocean, white sandy beaches, tropical flowers pure island magic and perfect setting for romance and good old fashioned legend! The author's dialogue use was a mixture of deep untouched emotion and heartache and crazy wild island fling romance, but she incorporated so many words of mystery with regards to the legend and the past of both main characters that it truly felt as if I was living the secrets.

It kept me captivated and wanting to learn more, with each page turned the mystery deepend and in the end it came to such a awesome ending it left me almost in tears that the read had indeed ended, I wanted it to go on and to learn more ! It was all just simply brilliant! Excellent work Romy!

The perfect telling of a legend blending with a real life romance, yes I realise the characters are not truly real life and the romance merely words on a page, but the author letting legend blend with a story that is definitely entirely possible and not just the stuff legends are made of made this read truly realistic, and I most definitely cannot wait for the author do it again and again and again !

I am taking away a message of those of us that keep secrets sometimes do so to protect the ones we love and we are not to judge the person for keeping the secret, we rather need to seek the beauty and true protection in the name of love of the secrets, it will show the person to you in whole new light. And never let the past hold you back, you never know you link to the past may be exactly what you need to steer you to a future of endless happiness.

I highly recommend this read for all fans of romance, it is was not simply a fairytale legend finding it's way into the world of romance but a truly wonderful new, fun and fresh look at just how fairy-tales can come true. Passionate, fun, exciting, exhilarating and fabulously SEXY!

So apparently this is the second book in a series, but fear not, you don't need to read the first book in order to enjoy this one. I say that from experience.

This story begins with a prolog that tells the story of how the island Tortuga came to be abandoned. A princess came to the island of Los Pajaros to marry it's governor, but once she arrived she met a pirate and the two fell in love and ran away together to Tortuga, the governor chased them but when he failed to retrieve his bride he cast a spell on the island, a curse that says that those that come to Tortuga would suffer from misery and a horrible death.

Now, I don't know what about you, but when I hear Pirates, Curse, Romance and the Caribbean my imagination runs wild (The Pirates of the Caribbean wild).

Even so, I'll have to warn you: This is a nowadays romance story, which means that despite it's very original beginning the Curse and the Pirates play little part here.

But you know what? The Caribbean plays big part here, and was it beautiful! But before I start raving and stop to make sense I think I should go to the beginning.

Kenzie Cole is a thirty-something single, beautiful, talented location scout that needs to find some locations to an upcoming film production. Kenzie has been through a lot in life- really, I thought her problem was some relationships with bad boys go wrong. But I didn't expect what actually happened.

Rik is a thirty-something exiled prince (exiled on his own decision) after living his entire life in a lie- grooming himself and dedicating himself to his country and position as king he learns something that changes his life forever. Now he spends his time in Los Pajaros drinking himself to oblivion, looking like a pirate and a bad boy and mourning his lost life. His secret is not surprising.

The two meet when both drink in a bar, and strike a deal that Rik would help Kenzie with her locations scouting. The electricity between them is high, and the attraction is almost tantalizing. Soon, a Caribbean romance begins. As in every book, they think it would be only for a short while but they find forever.

The big question is: what makes this book a 4 stars book? First of all the writing. Sommer's writing is light, funny and well done. Her descriptions of the Caribbean- the weather, the sun, the sunset, the smell, the wine, the trees and the turtles is so rich you can see it in your mind's eye. I haven't though much of the Caribbean as one of the places I must visit before, and now I do!

The sexual tension and the sex scenes are an added bonus. As well as the fact that some of the usual drama is avoided- there is not even once something like "you want me for me money and my title" and it was so very refreshing.

Closer to the end there's a little drama that shows just how much Kenzie had been through, and you know what? Rik didn't flinch, he chased her, he accepted her, he supported her and he loved her. And what a chasing scene that was! I wish for a flash mob and exotic flowers too! Sommer knows how to write her HEAs perfectly.

Also Sommer surprises with Kenzie's best friend Lee, and each chapter has a tweet. Some are really funny:
"@KEnzieCole101: in most fairy tales the bad boy turns into a prince. Just once I'd like to kiss a prince and have him turn into a steady dependable guy"

Yes, this book is falling to some tropes of the genre- the love interest is rich, there are secrets, and the immediate attraction as well as the fact that they fall in love within a week's time, even the ever so perfect HEA. But it never claimed to be different, it just promised me a good time and a smile and it delivered that promise.

So, as I already said- if you want to read light romance that would keep a silly smile on your face with exotic setting and likeable characters (don't forget the sex) this is your book! it even had it's funny moments (and tweets!)

An ARC was provided by HarperImpulse through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Some favourite quotes (because I like to share):
"She was done with men who needed fixing. Besides, her plane ticked was booked for three days from now. That wasn't enough time to fix whatever was broken with Rik My-Name-Doesn't-Matter. Even if she hadn't already had her fill of bad boys"

"Three times she had already got it very, very-wrong, and no one ever said 'fourth time's the charm"

"This morning you said you'd do anything to see me shirtless in public. Your wish is granted."

*Original pre-review*
and THIS is how you write a HEA (including a wonderful chasing scene)

full review to come soon, but just so you'll know right now: if you want to read light romance with exotic setting and likeable characters (don't forget the sex) this is your book! it even had it's funny moments (and tweets!)

The Trouble with Mojitos by Romy Sommer

Jane Hunt Writer First Steps

Set on islands shrouded in superstition and legend The Trouble with Mojitos is a romantic sensual read.

Rik's tattoos, long hair and beard catapult him to the top of Kenzie's men to avoid list until she discovers they are a disguise rather than a statement.

Kenzie's serial bad judgement regards men means she is a disappointment to her mother and lives in her family orientated brother's shadow. Vulnerable, honest and loyal Kenzie is likeable she wants to be respected for her life choices and not seen as a failure by those who should support her. Her latest job as a film location scout is make or break so she puts aside her mistrust of Rik and lets him be her exclusive tour guide.

Sexy and troubled Rik seeks the islands' anonymity whilst he salvages his train wreck of a life. At an all time low when he meets Kenzie he can't resist helping her. Determined she will succumb to their mutual attraction.

Vividly descriptive you feel the Caribbean humidity, visualise the crystal blue sea and scent the dense forest greenery. Kenzie and Rik's make creative use of their idyllic surroundings when their volatile chemistry explodes into sensual loving.

Rik faces his past and keeps Kenzie at his side. My sigh of relief proves premature. The penultimate plot twist reveals Kenzie's destructive past secrets.

The romantic ending is true Hollywood and a final unexpected twist paves the way for a further chapter of this modern fairytale.

The Trouble with Mojitos. Romy Sommer.
I loved Romy's Waking up in Vegas, so was delighted to get the chance to review this book. It features Rik, older brother of Max from book one. At the time of reading I was delighted that things worked out for Max, but couldn't help wondering what would happen to Rik. Well, here's his story.
He's lost, all his life he's been trained for a role which was swept out from under him in a heartbeat...so he's been trying to live anonymously, he's floundering, rebelling, searching for something and currently sporting bad boy vibes, long hair, stubble and showing off his tatts...then he meets Kenzie. Kenzie is definitely Live in the Moment, going against her staid family who want her to settle down with a nice man they've picked out – an accountant. They think at 30ish its time she stopped rebelling, and gave them grandchildren like her perfect sister. Trouble is Kenzie doesn't want to settle, finds there's no spark with the accountant, but the Bad Boys she has been going out with have all let her down badly. She and her flatmate Lee have currently sworn off men. So – what happens when live for now Kenzie meets Mr Plan Everything Rik in his Bad Boy incarnation? Sparks that what- they have an instant, visceral attraction that sizzles between them, and leads to some hot, steamy sex. Kenzie's determined its just a holiday fling, but her heart doesn't seem to know that and Rik, he's entranced and finding that life can be good after his months of brooding.
Its a story full of fun and happiness, and of course, heartbreak and disaster. I need both those and Romy doesn't disappoint – I could have wished the heartbreak lasted a little longer, (masochist that I am, I like the sad parts so long as I get my HEA) but it has a wonderful flamboyant ending that was just perfect for the characters of Rik and Kenzie.
Its a great read, funny and touching, ties up the first book nicely, and makes you feel you're there on the islands along with the characters. Beautiful descriptions too, that make the scenes come alive. Great book and one for the keepers file. Priced at £2.99 for 182 pages its around average for the genre.

Imagine having a really bad day at work, popping into the nearest bar for a quick drink and end up bumping into a modern day personification of every drop-dead gorgeous Hollywood version of a pirate. Well that's just the kind of day Kenzie is having.

OK so she's a film location scout and her day at work has involved trying to find suitable locations on a lesser known Caribbean island and try and gain permission to use them. The bar is actually the thatched roofed beach bar at the hotel she is staying at. And the pirate? He's the only other customer in the bar and he just oozes "bad boy".

But Kenzie has sworn off of bad boy/trust fund baby hunks and she's just not interested in getting to know him.

Today is Rik's birthday but he's not looking to celebrate. He's recently lost his position as head of the family business through no fault of his own and is now avoiding his family and the rest of the world on an island that holds good memories from his childhood. After getting the cold shoulder from Kenzie he gets her to tell him why she is having such a bad day and offers to pull some strings to try and get her permission to use the locations she has in mind. In fact he can think of much better locations, if she's interested.

After agreeing to meet the following morning, Kenzie heads off to her room and goes to bed. She gets woken up a couple of hours later by a phone call from the Hotel's night manager informing her that her friend has passed out in the bar and if she can't help them get him out of there then he's probably heading for a night in jail.

And so he ends up in her bed for the night and she sleeps on the sofa.

The story then continues and I would hate to spoil it for you. Just imagine pirates and princes, ordinary girls and princesses, Caribbean islands and European palaces, limos and private planes, taxis and public trains ending up with a HEA and the hint of an unsolved mystery.

I really enjoyed the story and Romy Sommer's writing style. I hope there is a follow-up to explain the mystery at the end. Great read!

I was given a copy of this for an honest review.
Kenzie is a location scout for a film company and in the Caribbean’s to find a good place for a pirate film. It could be her big break but after a few days of nothing but dead ends realizes she was sent on a wild goose chase and expected to fail. After a particularly bad day she finds herself at the bar drinking Mojitos with no one around but the bartender and a rather rude, very drunk man that claims he can get her audience with the mayor.
The drunk turns out to be a prince in exile and another broken man that Kenzie has the urge to fix, though she promised her best friend Lee she would not get involved with any more broken men.
This story is about Rik, Max’s older brother from the story Waking up in Vegas. Rik found that he really wasn’t the prince of Westerwald and took off in hiding where he has basically been wallowing in self-pity. I absolutely loved Rik. He is one heck of a hot bad-boy, not your run of the mill knight in shining armour. He is unkempt at the beginning, a drunk, chauvinistic and full of himself. My kind of man!
There is plenty of hot sex later in the story, and a heart-warming scene of turtle hatching. I felt the book was worth reading just for that scene alone but the h whole book is awesome. There are a few twists that left me with my mouth hung open and the ending was awesome and now I’m ready for the next book.
I highly recommend this if you like a good romance with a bit of mystery, some hot sex, sexy Caribbean islands, Castles, forests, waterfalls and baby turtles.

The Trouble with Mojitos is such a great romantic story that would appeal to those that are looking for a new take of your typical “girl-meets-prince-kind-of-story.” This story has a more adventurous feel to it, and the setting is unexpected. I love how Romy Sommer describes the setting, it's very vivid and the interaction between Kenzie Cole and Rik is instant. But with an unexpected setting comes secrets as well and Rik is full of the. After been on exile, the former Prince decides to take refuge on an island (where he knows no one is going to give him trouble).

But on the night of his birthday, he meets film location scout, Kenzie Cole. From the start he is intrigued to find out more about her and the more time they spend together, the more he starts to feel wanted and not alone. As they set out to find the perfect film location, Kenzie can't deny the attraction that she has toward Rik, but they very well know that their time together is short. Nothing comes easy when it comes to loving someone, especially when that someone is a Prince.

From the minute I saw the cover, I immediately knew that I had to read this book and it didn't disappoint. The book flowed beautifully and the plot is fun to read. I recommend everyone to give this book a try, it has a mix of royalty and adventure all in one. :)

A real life prince who could pass for a pirate? Sign me up! When Kenzie shows up to scout locations for a movie, she has no idea what the island has in store for her. Rik brings out a different side of her and I have to say, I loved their entire little relationship. We got to learn about Rik and why he was disinherited and at the end, we learned what made Kenzie so hesitant. I only wished we got a little more detail about the other bad guys she dealt with, not just Charlie.

I was happy for the engagement party scene and for a deeper glimpse into Rik's life, although I wanted more with the mother and with his brother. That very last scene though with the actor and the ring? I don't know if I missed an earlier book in the series, but that threw me. What was that about? Why bring this up in the epilogue when it hasn't been mentioned at all?

Definitely going to read more of Sommer. I enjoyed the way she wrote the characters and their story.

A nice bit of romantic chick-lit - a light and fun read, nothing too taxing but eminently enjoyable. A prince, a tropical island, mojitos... what more could you want? I would have said this was the perfect summer holiday read, except it's been released in autumn! Maybe it's the perfect winter holiday read - if you're lucky enough to get away to warmer climes this winter. Proper modern fairytale stuff, a gorgeous but damaged man begging to be fixed, who just happens to be an ex-prince. Lovely and brave but burned woman who doesn't think she wants to love again, but can she resist that tall, dark stranger? The chemistry and tension between these two is great, making for an exciting and delightful read.

If your looking for a modern day telling of a fairy tale romance this book will do omit for you!! I adored the tortured prince Rik and the pretty location scout that was spunky and who had resolved to never fall in love again. The setting was a beautiful tropical island and lent itself well to sexy romantic moments. The ending sets us up for a continuation of this story, and don't miss the book about Rics brother in Waking up in Vegas!!

I'm writing this review as the sun shines over my city, day one of a mini heatwave of sorts if the weather forecasters are to be believed. And The Trouble with Mojitos is the sort of book to enjoy on a lazy summer day, that's for sure.

So, why should you be putting it in your suitcase this summer?

Firstly, the settings. What's not to love about deserted beaches with waterfalls spilling down a rock face? Or stunning palaces with baroque architecture? The way Romy Sommer writes these places, they are easy to envisage, and although I was reading from my battered sofa, I felt like I was transported to somewhere far more exotic. This would be a perfect beach or poolside read, even better with a cocktail (mojito?) on the side. And if, like me, you're at home surrounded by dirty pots and piles of ironing, what better place is there to escape to than an idyllic island?

The characters were interesting too. I fell head over heels in love with Rik from the get-go, which was quite strange as the opening scenes didn't paint him in the most flattering light! But there was a definite charm, and as the story wore on it became more and more apparent that he was nigh on the perfect hero. I couldn't fangirl harder for him if I tried. A prince who could pass for a pirate- yum yum, indeed.

Kenzie, the female protagonist, was a bit harder to get the measure of. Whilst we learn about her job I felt I never really knew her that well as a character, and although I liked her it was as though she had a barrier up. As it turns out she does have a pretty big secret of her own...

There are a fair few sex scenes which will get you fanning yourself with your sunhat if that's your scene, and the plot itself held my attention. I wanted to find out the details behind why Rik was no longer in the royal household and also whether Kenzie would be able to impress her boss and boast the perfect film location for the next blockbuster smash!

However, the highlight is Romy Sommer's engaging voice which kept me hitting the next page button on my kindle. This book was just so readable.

The Trouble with Mojitos is actually the second book in the Westerwald series, and I haven't read the first. But I can tell you now, I definitely will be. Firstly, because I want to see if there are any more glimpses of the freshest prince around, and secondly, after the massive hint about what could happen in the next book I am NEEDING to know just why things ended as they did.

Absolutely loved the setting of this book. A remote Caribbean archipelago, with one of the islands surround by an ancient folk story based on reality. It was reading the folk story in the prologue that caught my interest immediately. Add in, exotic beaches, a man that looks like a pirate, and some mojitos, and you have a lethal combination for a brilliant book.

Kenzie is a location scout for a film company, and is out in Caribbean looking for the perfect location for a new film, She needs beautiful bays and lagoons, forests and ruins, and room to put a pirate ship. However the locals on the island aren't being particularly helpful or friendly, and so we meet her drowning her sorrows at the bar.

Also at the bar that night is Rik. He was mentioned during Waking Up in Vegas, so if you have read that, you will be aware of his real background. Otherwise, you will learn as the book goes on, that there is a lot more to Rik, than the reasonably well off beach bum than meets the eye.

Rik is gorgeous, has bad boy pirate-esque looks to him, and offers to help Kenzie with her location scouting, by getting her an audience with the mayor. With Rik's help they get permission to take a boat to look at the "cursed" island of Tortuga. It isn't long before human nature and a sizzling connection make themselves known.

The Trouble with Mojitos, shows us how you can find your hearts desire, even if you have had multiple setbacks, and that there is always a plan B to life. Both fabulously upbeat messages to get from a book.

This is a warm hearted, feel good romance, that if you are reading Romy Sommer's books in order, that leaves you wanting to know what happens next. Fabulous second book in the Westerwald trilogy.

The Trouble with Mojitos opens with an intriguing, exciting story about pirates and long-ago fairy tale with an unfinished ending…waiting for something to break a curse.

Then we meet Rik and Kenzie. Kenzie is sassy and instantly drew me in with her take-no-crap personality. I loved her strength of purpose mixed with a touch of vulnerability. Rik jumps off the page as a possible modern-day pirate with some secrets to keep. I loved their dialogue with each other and internally too. Another aspect that was fun, which I adore in books when handled well, are the tweets between Kenzie and her roommate, Lee.

I loved this sweet, romantic story that had me caught up for a few hours in a far off, tropical setting! This is one of those books that just take you away from the realities of everyday life and leave you smiling in the end. I felt like there were a few parts that weren’t fully resolved or addressed in this book and although it’s part of a series, it can be easily read as a standalone. I’ll definitely be reading the next book, particularly when I need an easy, sexy escape!

The Trouble with Mojitos took me to a paradise island for a day. The settings were so dreamy, so real, I could almost taste, touch and feel every sensation the characters had. Romy writes dreamy romances that are pure escapism - they take you into another world where dreams do come true.

The most beautiful message I got from this book was - hope. I read it on a day when I was feeling rather hopeless and down, but it brought hope and told me that things would come right - that Plan B is often better than Plan A. So, even though it was an escape, it gave me a message and a good feeling while reading it. I soared above the world and its troubles for a moment.

The sex scenes in this book were amazing - they were all different, real, hot and wow, did she up the sexual tension in the first half of the book!

I have to say, Romy is still one of my favourite romance writers of all. I always know I'm going to enjoy one of her books. This one definitely didn't disappoint, it surprised and inspired me. I loved the hero and heroine.

In The Trouble with Mojitos by Romy Sommer, Kenzie Cole is a single and beautiful location scout. Now she is on the lookout for locations to film an upcoming film production. She has not had an easy life and her troubles are not what you’d expect.

Sommer did an excellent job of capturing the setting of these tropical islands. It’s very much a formula romance so nothing unpredictable here but the characters are likeable and the story moves along nicely. So grab one last summer read and enjoy The Trouble with Mojitos.

Not as intriguing as the predecessor, I found myself a little bored reading it and not really caring where the story was going so I decided there was no point continuing.

For the uncorked librarians 2022 reading challenge, February is South Africa. This Author is originally from South Africa, so this story was just a nice fiction love story. Easy read with a happy ending, a smidge cheesy but give me all the Hallmark cheese!

**ARC Provided by Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for an honest review**

Ok, so apparently this is the second book in the series, the first being Waking up in Vegas.

Kenzie has gone to the Caribbean to scout for filming locations on an up and coming film. Other people have also been sent to other locations, but she is having problems getting anywhere in these islands because she is not a man and has no connections. However she is absolutely sure that these islands are the prefect place for the filming.

After a hard day she goes to the bar and orders Mojitos and meets Rik. What she doesn't know is that Fredrik is a disgraced former Prince of the Waldburg line. Apparently his Princely father, was not actually his father and now his life has changed irreparably.

Having lived in the islands for a while and having grown up their in the summer with his family, Rik has all the connections she needs. Giving her his keys he tells her he will see her tomorrow at ten, then when she leaves he continues to drink. Its his birthday.

Later, early in the morning she is woken up by the hotel manager saying her friend has passed out and could she help. Going down she finds Rik passed out tin the bar with no ID and when she tries his car there is nothing their either. She decides that she will let him sleep in her room on the couch. She finds out who is is, but keeps it quite after reading his brothers note.

The next day, Kenzie see's his tattoos and thinks he is a bad boy. Both her and her friend Lee have made a promise to leave off bad boys and they have always been hurt by them in the past. Putting her feelings in a little box, she goes off with him to the mayor and pleads her case for help in seeing the other islands and gives a good speech about hiring local islander for work when they are here filming.

She gets approval from the mayor and Rik end up agreeing to take her to the islands as other islanders will not set foot on one of the islands and the other is privately owned. By Rik's family.

They set off the next day by private boat and visit the uninhabited island she needs to see. The island is perfect and she takes numerous photos. The sexual tension continues between the pair and he tells her the story that goes with the island.

The next day after sending the photo's she has so far back to England, they go back to the island to see the parts she hasn't already visited. They get lost in the forest, find ruins and a waterfall and then eventually another beach. The sexual tension ratchets up and they have unprotected sex in the water, and nearly again on the beach.

Saneness prevails and they go back to the boat where a sex fuelled Rik, and a box of condoms mean they spend more time together. Back at the island where her hotel is she ends up staying in Riks bed where he is currently living in a friends guest house. The next day he takes her to his island and tells her the truth, he even asks her to stay with him but she can't, she has another job to do.

Rik flies to the UK asking her to help him. He tells her he needs her at a family function, as he won't go without her. ITs his brothers engagement party. She agrees as he knows her weakness is helping other people. She travels with him and is escorted into the palace, where he has promised that she can take photos, the first person ever allowed, and introduces her to his family. He avoids his mother.

The family are surprised that he has introduced her to them after knowing her for such a short time, they see many changes in him for the better. But the past catches up with Kenzie and she sees former friends of a past boyfriend who killed himself.

The next day after going around the palace with his brothers fiancé, she decides she will tell Rik the truth about her past, but the friend, Adam has beaten her to it and is telling him as she listens outside the door. When Rik says nothing she decides the best thing to do is leave.

Rik is upset when he finds she has left and races to the train, only for it to leave as he arrives at the platform. He gets a favour owed to him from his brother and plans his attack. When Kenzie arrives in England, she hears the music she danced to with Rik and other passengers crowding the windows. When they start to clear she sees flowers spelling out the word LOVE.

When she gets off the train she sees that they spell i love you and they are the flowers that we all over the islands. Then she sees that dancers and down at the bottom of the escalator is Rik, and he grins when he sees her.

He starts undressing from the top and she stops him before he takes her aside and tells her that he wants her in his life permanently. A little while later they are on his island and while the film crew are milling about she tells him in a roundabout way that she is pregnant. Needles to say he is ecstatic and they look forward to many happy years together.

It was a lovely light read, perfect for a rainy weekend as a pick me up. The book didn't get too serious and there was a lot of fun and tension between the couple.

Well this book just has me stumped. On one hand it was a nice, sweet book but on the other I feel it was lacking something and that is what's bugging me - I can't put my finger on it what was missing. I did enjoy it but I had this empty feeling once I'd finished it, I was slightly confused (I'll explain why in a bit) so I decided to sleep on my review and see if I could figure out why this book has stumped me.

Firstly, I love the setting in this book. I would love to live in the Caribbean and so imaging the authors world was like a dream come true for the few hours it took me to read The Trouble with Mojitos. I also liked the fact that Kenzie and Rik were exploring islands that had been left untouched for years, it made a nice change from touristy sites and romantic getaways in places like Paris.

As well as this the author definitely managed to cram a lot of history into the small amount of pages. I liked how Rik's history was dragged out from the book and although there are a lot of obvious hints as to why he is in the situation he's in, I liked that we had to wait to get a confirmation on our assumption. I would have liked a bit more detail on what actually happened with all of Kenzies other 'bad guys' as well though. I felt her back ground was a bit underdeveloped and rushed, with a story about one guy coming out right towards the end.

For me the book started and ended well but the middle fell flats slightly as the pace slowed down. I think is where the main issue appeared for me. I just felt really detached from the characters and didn't engage with their story. I found it all a little predictable and although the romance was sweet, I didn't find it passionate. For me I wanted more playful flirting and teasing from Rik's side as the build up to the romance is my favourite part normally. He said he was going to be able to make her beg for him by the end, but he never really did a lot to follow through on that in my opinion. I just wanted more.

I did like the ending though and I was glad the book picked back up when Kenzie returned to Europe. At least Rik had a bit more fight in him. However the epilogue just didn't make sense. It was like I had walked into a totally different book and because there was no mention of rings at all in the previous chapters I was just the confused so although the book redeemed itself it then crashed back down on the last few pages and rather than a happily ever after ending I was left frowning as I tried to remember if I could have missed something.

Overall The Trouble with Mojitos is a sweet read that did keep me turning pages. It was quick at had a lot of detail in certain aspects but not in others. It was enjoyable but personally I feel it lacked the wow factor which is maybe why I feel indifferent to it - it needed more of a build up in the romance. If you like quickly sweet reads though you may want to check it out, it's by no means a bad book - I just didn't connect.

I love the Westerwald series. Romy has created the perfect world for romance in this trilogy.

This was a proper fairy tale story with legend of a pirate, princess & prince and an island. It was a good read especially when you're having a chilaxing time. I actually like the prologue and the build up to romance while Rik and Kenzie were still in the island. Falling in love is a nice feeling and it always keeps me upbeat when i'm reading a book . and Im a sucker for romance . all is going well until towards the end and I feel like the ending was rushed. I thought the legend of the Pirate and the Princess has something to do with Rik & Kenzie, and them being in the island will end the curse (maybe they are the descendants of the Pirate & Princess, this is a fairy tale story afterall) ooops! Im so wrong and the legend was forgotten so its just a random location to fall in love and Rik being associated only with the Pirates' look . The scenes at the train station to profess his love was sweet and romantic but was not made to cut deep. I was thinking maybe its because Rik doesn't want to scandalize Kenzie with the big gesture so its a silent communication between them, but still you made that grand effort you could have atleast made the audience know and have that big applause and awwwww moment .... and whats' with the Epilogue, as I have said it has been pass forward so whatever emotional connection I'm having with Rik and Kenzie has been ripped off of me . I wish the author have actually added atleast one chapter or few pages that ties the loose ends like whats' with Kenzies' problem with her family , whats' Rik gonna do in the island , what's the story behind the rings and it significance because it wasn't mentioned until the end.
Cliffhanger???

I love this series by Romy Summers. It is sheer escapism (in this case to a Caribbean island). The characters are interesting and the locations all contribute to the fairy tale magic of each book. Rik and Kenzie are both trying to figure out what happens next in their life while trying to escape the past. A pirate and princess legend (and baby sea turtles) add additional romance to the story.

Ok - but I could not relate to the characters - unsure why this is. Island paradise, pirates, princes etc . ... It should have been perfect
