Blythe College #1

Push the Envelope

Rate this book
Alexa is just your average college junior, attending classes and piloting Mile High Club charter flights. Boys haven't been on her radar for a couple years after a disastrous breakup with her high school sweetheart. Her plans to focus on school hit a bit of a snag when she meets bad-boy Drake Bennett and he sets his sights on making her his own.

Drake transferred to Blythe College for the rugby team, not for a new assortment of college girls. He's sexy and cocky, and he attracts women like moths to a flame. When he meets Alexa, Drake knows he's met his match. She tries to resist him, but Drake isn't used to taking no for an answer.

This does not have a cliffhanger.

I absolutely adore reading - always have and always will. My friends growing up used to tease me when I would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If I have downtime, odds are you will find me reading or writing.

I am the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired me to chase my dream of being an author. I want them to learn from me that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.

When I told my mom that my new year's resolution was to self-publish a book in 2013, she pretty much told me "About time!"

I've read this book twice now and I loved it even more the second time around. This has everything in it that I look for.

Alexa is a game changer for Drake. He's man enough to go after what he wants and that's Alexa. He's dominant, possessive but also treats her with respect. Due to a misunderstanding in the beginning, Alexa resists at first and that just made Drake more determined.

There is a bit of other woman and other men drama in this and I didn't even care. The way Drake and Alexa both handled it made it a non-issue for me. I really would love to find more books like this one. It's not easy to find an OTT Alpha story that is written maturely. I loved every bit of it!

Thanks for the buddy read Janie!

Absolutely loved! I'm a sucker for the over the top, crazy in love alphas. You give me one of those and I'm sold. Add in a heroine I actually don't want to hurt and hello, winner! Not only did I love watching their story play out but I became attached to the secondary characters and I really can't wait for Jackson's story!

A sweet and steamy New Adult Read!

I loved the "Mile High Club" Twist in this book...
Flowers... Check

Chocolates... Check

Champagne chilled and ready to go... check.

Noise canceling headphones so I didn't have to listen to whatever noises were going to float up from the rear cabin... check.

This was so totally not the normal pilot's checklist.

Who knew there were so many middle-aged housewives looking to spice up their marriages?
Push the Envelope is a lovely blend of humor and romance, I'm so glad I picked it up. Great characters and fun dialogue came together to form a sweet romance with a touch of heat.

ALEXA HEWETT
"Alexa, you okay?" I heard Drake ask from behind me as his hand skated up my spine.

I turned and smiled at Drake. "yup, everything's okay. I'm just excited to get back in the cockpit."

Drake chuckled huskily, "I'd love to hear you say cock in a totally different setting, babe."
Alexa is a rare bird in the world of Modern NA Romance- A heroine with a backbone and a brain! She's working her way through business school by putting her hard-earned pilot's license to use, and flying "Mile High" tours which allow a couple to get horizontal in the back of a private plane.

Between work and school, she has no time for parties and boys...

She's determined not to fall into bed with the first man who has sparked her interest in years... Even if that man is devastatingly attractive and doesn't back down from the challenge...

DRAKE BENNETT
"...The gelato is fine. It's just not what I'm hungry for right now." Drake licked his lips and flashed a sexy grin my way.

"I'm not touching that comment with a ten-foot pole!" I joked.

"How about a ten-inch pole?" Drake glanced down at his lap and wagged his eyebrows.
Drake your standard smokin' hot Alpha Male rugby player with his sights set on Alexa. The type of guy who always seems to have a gaggle of gorgeous coeds following him on campus. But he only has eyes for the one girl who seems completely immune to his charms...

This was delayed gratification done right.

Drake makes his intentions perfectly clear, but the two don't fall directly into bed... There's a slow burn and a (nearly unbearable) build up of UST before the two hit the sheets...

I know what you're thinking, but this isn't your standard "college girl deflowering" story. Odd that when two characters actually take the time to get to know each other before having sex, one automatically jumps to the conclusion that someone is
a) a snow-white pure virgin
or
b) dealing with a tragic previous sexual encounter

Not the case with Push the Envelope. There was a believable progression of their relationship. No instalove BS, no dark past to be overcome... This book was adorable and gave me some laughs and a case of the warm fuzzies, which is nice every now and then!

I had the opportunity to chat with Rochelle Paige at the 2014 Louisville Authors Event, and she is FANTASTIC. I HAD to grab a copy of this book after talking to her.

Did you know that there REALLY IS a place in Ohio that you can charter a flight to join the Mile High Club?

2.5 stars!!

description

Eh, I barely made it through this read. It just wasn't for me. One of my biggest peeves is insta love and this book pretty much has it in spades for claiming everlasting love in a short spic of time.

The female protagonist is Alexa, a college business major and co-pilot of a private jet run alongside her father. She sees Drake, a rich/hotshot rugby player transfer, at a party and develops an instant attraction for him. However, what she does not already know is that he too feels a pull to her and has had a thing for her since seeing her weeks before walking on campus.

So as you can predict, the next day after the party, guess who's Alexa's new client for the night? Drake. Yep.

The story basically goes full steam from there with jealous groupies harping for Drake's attention and typical NA drama taking it's turn.

Maybe it's just me guys since it looks like a lot of people had actually loved this story. In my eyes though, it was a bit amateurish and had some gimmicks and loopholes that made me just want to roll my eyes. Sorry!

5 stars for the hero, 3 stars for the setting/story = 4 stars

Fast paced read that has the ever elusive rainbow unicorn…the perfect alpha. If you like your books with a strong hero that is dominate, sexy, sweet and knows how to take care of his lady, this is the book.

Both Drake and Alexa were great characters. Unfortunately, I felt that these characters would have worked better in a story when they were older. Both of them are mature and Drake doesn’t talk like any kind of college student I’ve ever heard. It kind of threw me off because he was hot and had all the dirty, sexy, sweet talk down pat but it was in a college setting and it just didn’t fit. A motorcycle club, absolutely! I wouldn’t have minded that a bit. Alexa is a pilot who has started a new service in her father’s chartering business. She’s seems to have it all together with the exception of men. I liked the way she stood up for herself when the time demanded it.

Other woman drama – some but not from a woman the hero had a relationship with

POV - heroine's with the hero’s POV as the epilogue

Epilogue – disappointing because it pretty much restated the drama that had occurred at the end of the book and did not give the reader a look into this couple’s relationship further down the road.

Completely safe

**Did I miss something? Because I don’t understand how the title relates to the story.**

Overall, I am so glad I read this book – rainbow alpha, remember – and I would love to read more from this author.

I upped my rating to 5 stars because I liked this one even more the second time around. Drake is a j/p hero just like I like them. He sees Alexa and immediately no other will do. He treats her like gold (until one time he doesn’t) but he makes up for it. Can’t wait to continue this series. Thanks for the BR Mindy!!

This book wasn't one for me. I found it hard to keep concentration on the writing, I'm not sure why and I'm saddened that I couldn't. I found myself skimming through most of the pages.

The characters were ok, The storyline was a little too plain and would have been better with a little more drama lol. This one just didn't do it for me.

I'll definitely try another book in the future from this author.

Where the heck did all these 4 and 5 stars come from? I feel hosed. I am sitting here thinking... What was the point of that book?! Okay, I will admit I have read a lot worse, but I had high expectations due to all those stars that people were giving it. Did I read the same book? I am so confused. Alexa is a pilot at the young age of twenty, (kind of unbelievable but I could get past it) I was already thinking wow this chick is so cool! Drake is your typical college playboy. He plays rugby, (although, come to think of it can you really say that when there is only one chapter where he actually plays) again I had high hopes for the hero. I've never read a book about a rugby player and a female pilot. Unfortunately, That's where the interesting things end. The rest if the book doesn't really have much going on except Drake being the perfect boyfriend. The book had no plot other than that.
Anyways...It wasn't that bad, it was just one of those books that make you think of a movie where the actors are horrible and and deliver their lines all choppy. The dialogue made me roll my eyes so much I am surprised what my mom warned me about as a kid about them getting stuck that way didn't happen. Unfortunately, I can't say I would recommend this book, I say spend your $2.99 on something else.

This was an okay book. Not anything that I loved, but it held my attention. I love a guy who goes after what he wants and Drake wanted the hell out of Alexa. He was dominant and possessive and you know I love that in a love interest. While I thought it was just okay, I still want to read the rest of the series.

I was actually shocked how much I enjoyed this. My expectations were low. The cover didn't impress me all that much and it's a debut indie author. but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not trying to be mean when I say that at all. I think I've just read one too many indie books in the past couple months that really disappointed me. But I'll never stop taking that gamble because when you find a brand new, self-published author with undiscovered talent, it's great to be able to share that with your GR friends. If you liked Until November by Aurora Rose Reynolds, you would probably like this. It's writing style was similar and had a great alpha-possessive hero.

Alexa is a college student paying her way by piloting her father's planes for his company. She grew up in the cockpit and plans to follow in his footsteps helping him with the company after she gets her business degree. How cool is that? I don't think I've ever read a book with a pilot heroine. I love when they have interesting and unique jobs like a mechanic or something else that's in a male dominated field. Plus she was sweet, sassy, wasn't afraid to speak up for herself and didn't take any of Drake's BS.

"Stop right there! I get that you’re hot. I am sure lots of girls will put up with your crap because they want to be with you.But that’s not me. First of all, you have no right to tell me how I can and cannot speak. Second of all, the only reason I am swearing in the first place is because you are being an A-S-S. There. Is it better for you that I spelled it instead of just saying it?"

"Oh, is it my turn to speak now?" I asked with sarcasm, masking the whirl of thoughts flying through my mind.
His eyes flared with heat at my show of irritation. "Yeah, I'm done for now. Go ahead, babe."
Drake leaned closer to me, our noses brushing against each other. His lips were as close to mine as they could be without us kissing. "Oh, you're going to like me calling you babe. Trust me on that."

Drake is a rugby player with the hopes of making it to the Olympics. Do I want to read about a sexy, athletic rugby player who is super possessive and Alpha? Well, it's a huge sacrifice, but I think I can suffer through it. (Yes. That was sarcasm.) He just transferred to her school and doesn't have a problem attracting the ladies' attention around campus. He's never been that interested in getting serious with anyone, but when he sees Alexa he's determined to get to know her better. When she spots him at a party, she melts at his hot, intense stare and for the first time in a long time she feels the flutter of attraction.

She's with her best friend's brother though and he assumes that they are together. He's jealous as hell and angry he didn't get to her first but he's not going to steal her away from a friend. They meet again when she and her father are hired to fly him to New York to his mother's birthday party. He assumes she is the flight attendant and when she clues him in that she will be co-piloting, it...was...killer.
She made him eat his words and I loved it! And when she clears up the little misunderstanding about her non-boyfriend? All bets are off. He claims her as his. (Whether she likes it or not.)

They have several conflicts that keep the story flowing and absorbing. First of all, the one relationship she had in high school ended badly. Her boyfriend cheated on her and then stalked her afterwards. This has left her wary to trust and reluctant to attempt a relationship with anyone. So she stays to herself and basically just works and goes to school. Not only that, but they come from very different backgrounds (he's very wealthy and she's middle class) and she's concerned that they don't have enough in common.Too bad she's caught the eye of a guy that doesn't take no for an answer. As strong willed as he is, he's patient an understanding at the same time. He's willing to wait as long as it takes until she feels comfortable as long as she's willing to get to know him. Throw in an annoying family friend that's determined to make Drake hers and you've got a fast paced, interesting plot. She causes quite the problem for this couple but the misunderstanding wasn't dragged out. It was resolved fairly quickly and efficiently. Holy hell I wanted to smack that girl though.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. The two MCs were quite unique, kept me engrossed and really steamed up the pages. I would highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a very alpha hero and a strong heroine.

I quit at only 23%. The dialogue was a bit cheesy. The insta lust or whatever it was between Drake and Alexa is totally overboard. I mean he's domineering towards her after ONE sight at a party? I love an alpha male but not the way this one is told. It doesn't flow for me. It didn't set Drake up at all. He wasn't an alpha male to me. More like a fake ass alpha male. I get where the Jackson story is going when it comes to Alexa. That came on a bit strong too. Aubrey came across as a loud ass instead of chill BFF. The dialogue was an issue for me. Just couldn't keep going. Too many books on TBR to try and make it through when I knew by 20% this wasn't gonna do it for me.

My eyeballs are stuck in the back of my head.

It's about a three hour read, and it's not worth it.

DNF at 40% (a lot of skimming)
Cocky frat boy isn't doing it for me, with his off and on interest and hot and cold emotion.

Getting that from about 20 pages with him. Weird obsessive behavior...NOPING this one.

I like the idea of feeding you your favorite foods. 🤢

And they do not give good innuendo.

**A big 4.5 Stars**

So I got this book as a ARC review and I had my eyes on it for awhile now! I was super excited when the Author gave me an Advanced copy! I couldn't help my excitement and started that night!

Since the first page I was hooked and wanted more! Then Drake entered my pages and I was "Swooning" in my chair! He was so handsome and strong! And an athlete (my favorite). He has it bad for Alexa who doesn't take crap from anyone and who is a bad ass Pilot of a Mile High Club. They meet and have an awesome story from there.

*High Five* for a Feel good read with no Cliffhangers!

Now I can't wait to read more about Jackson (Alexa's best-friends brother..I feel more swooning coming) in Rochelle's next book! Whoo-Hoo!!

I felt ancient reading this. The characters are juniors in college and so 20/21 but they seemed much younger.

This was the well worn girl-who-doesn't-realize-how- irresistible-she-is-reforms-a-man-whore-with-one-glance- through-her-velvety-lashes plot. Alexa is funding her education by working part time as a pilot for her father's charter jet company and Drake is the well to do and exceedingly sweet college sports star. There's the usual scenes where he goes all alpha whenever another guy looks at her but is apparently oblivious to the lust-crazed gazes he draws from every female he encounters. It kept me interested, but it wasn't anything I hadn't read in other forms lots of times before.

They have good chemistry and hold out for the smut for a while which built the anticipation nicely, but he was smitten with her improbably fast which made me roll my eyes a little.

This was a relatively fast, complete story about fairly young characters so if that's what you're craving, this will hit the spot, but I think I prefer reading about characters with a little more going on in their heads than sport, getting laid and choosing the most perfect outfit. Yeah, right, who am I kidding...

How happy am I that this was a freebie? So damn happy!!

So this was a lot of insta not that that's a problem for me normally. But I like to be prepared and this insta was a bit too fast and naha for me. Drake gave me a stalkerish vibe without the stalking but a whole creepy... He was just that creepy to me.. Somethings he said made me think like let me get my pan and I'll smack some sense in ya! He just worked on my nerve, maybe that was me, maybe that was him.. It bothered me to no end that he was just so creepy..

I would say give this one a shot and let me know if it was me or him.

Ok this is me right now!

I am so blown away and thankful! When I am told about and author that checks all of my must haves and also doesn't have my no fly zones. I am in absolute reading bliss. Rochelle Paige sucked me in and kept me so happy the whole time I read this amazing story. I love a possessive and bossy alpha male. There is no secret there. But to make sure he is loyal and honest and just so loving that is just the sexiest icing on the cake. Drake was 100% Perfect Alpha Approved and the scorching love scenes just made this a favorite for me right away.

I adore Drake and Alexa was just the right balance of sweet and innocent with sexy vixen who stands up for herself when it matters most. Drake had only one flaw..and actually I don't blame him one iota.

He loved Alexa so much that sometimes his mouth engaged before he had time to think. But when a man is a man..and Drake was all man! They just own up to their mistakes and make up for them too. I can't wait to read more from this series and I am officially calling myself a Rochelle Paige stalkerFAN.

When I first saw the cover of Push the Envelope I thought it was going to be your typical college-girl-falls-for-the-athlete story, but the cover is deceiving. Once I read the synopsis I knew that the story was going to be slightly different from what I have read these past few days :).

Alexa is a college girl that works with her father as pilots, and she also pilots the Mile High Club :). She has gone through a bad experience with her last boyfriend, that has left her not wanting to jump into any type of relationship with a boy. This has also left her with a few problems to trust any guy with her heart. Alexa's character is somewhat of a tomboy. She is not much of a girl on getting all made up, but she doesn't mind putting on a little bit of makeup and dressing nice. Something that stood out to me was Alexa's personality, because it's so vivid and contagious from the very first page. This is one of the reasons why I loved her character so much, because this hasn't happened to me before with any other character I have read about.

Drake is your typical hot athlete that doesn't have to do much to get the attention of girls. He has moved to Blythe for the rugby team and only plans to focus on playing and fitting in with his fraternity brothers. But once he gets a look at Alexa he has another thing on his mind. I experienced the same thing with Drake's character as I did with Alexa's character. His intense personality just stood out from the pages that he had me even shivering more than once. There was one scene in the story that I did feel like slapping the hell out of his character, but other than that I was pretty much swooning over Drake :).

Alexa and Drakes relationship at the beginning was a little bit of a whiplash experience, but that doesn't last long. Their relationship develops pretty quickly after they talk about the the BIG miss understanding at the beginning. These two have an instant electrifying connection from the moment they meet. Sometimes I am bothered with how quickly a relationship develops between the characters in the story, but I didn't experience the same problem with Alexa and Drakes relationship. Rochelle Paige made it sound like their relationship did take a few months to develop, because of the time frame of the scenes. This was something I loved because it's realistic. One thing I can say about Alexa and Drakes relationship is that it's hot and intense!

Push the Envelope by Rochelle Paige is a great debut and first book in a series! I feel in love with every character in the story, and would love to hear their stories in the other installments in the Blythe College Series. Alexa and Drake's characters personalities brought life to the pages, because I have never ever felt such strong personalities from characters before. Push the Envelope is a quick sweet and hot romance story that you will fall in love with.

4.5 Alpha Loving Stars!

description

I am currently doing a challenge and one of the requirements was to Read a College Romance so I picked up Push the Envelope . I am not going to lie, I was a little apprehensive going into this one as there were a few mixed reviews amongst my goodreads friends but once again, that worry was for nothing. This book was fantastic. The only problem I had with it was that it was so good I now have to finish the entire series before I can move on to the next challenge requirement.

It's no big secret but I am a massive alpha lover and lets just say Drake was a massive alpha in every way possible. I absolutely loved his character. He was dominant, cocky, bossy and possessive but he was also incredibly protective and sweet.

Surprisingly, Alexa did not piss me off. She was hesitant and had put up walls to protect herself after being hurt in the past but she was never obnoxious or annoying. She was reluctant and careful when it came to Drake but she never completely closed herself off to him when he started pursuing her. .

Their relationship was so good. The build up and chemistry between them was perfect and when the time finally came it was all kinds of hot. Drake was just as in control in the bedroom as he was in every other facet of life.

The secondary characters in the book were also fantastic. Aubrey was everything you could wish for in a best friend and I loved Jackson. I have a feeling I am going to fall even more in love with him when I read his book next - Hit the Wall .

I am so glad I stumbled across this little gem and cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

The beginning was really good and it really hooked me on.... It was a cute story that was worth reading.
The part I liked the most was the jealousy part, I mean it wasn't clear that he had been jealous but, then after you find out, its actually really adorable...

I read this book a while ago but just forgot to log it...But it had been a good book to read, there was a section in the book that dragged and that part made the book loose the thrill to it but except for that, it was a good read.

not quite sure what the title has to do with the story but I really did enjoy this book! .. in a way it was the usual love story but it had so many hilarious moments that I laughed out loud to.. I kinda wished for more of a epilogue .. totally LOVED the alpha male in him an it wasn't a cocky attitude more of a confident attitude :-) Rochelle you did a great job amazing writhing :-)
