Gabriel Drake had it good. Big house in Malibu. Best-selling book about his discovery of the long-lost Babylon. Only, that's not what happened. Gabriel was in another world, the one where all the lost and forgotten places, things, and even people live. Gabriel was flung back to our world, and Babylon came with him. He doesn't remember any of this.
But when Gabriel meets someone else sent back from those forgotten lands, the magics that hold Gabriel's memories at bay start coming unravelled. Now, these magics threaten him, the wildly talented and unpredictable Lorelei, and the entire world. Afraid for his life and sanity, he's being hunted by a mysterious secret society and the authorities want him for a murder he didn't commit.
The world Gabriel forgot is magical and dangerous, but as it turns out, the real world isn't so mundane, either.
Chris M. Arnone (he/him) was weaned on comic books and Hardy Boys novels, finding his first literary love in Lord of the Flies, though his longest-lasting is a love for Ray Bradbury. He reads and writes nerdy fiction in equal parts with literary fiction and poetry these days, but his imagination still leans toward the magical. As an intersex man, he is particularly interested in gender and sexuality in his writing.
Chris’ debut novel, The Hermes Protocol, is forthcoming from Castle Bridge Media on January 24, 2023. He is a contributor for Book Riot. He is represented by Katie Salvo at Metamorphosis Literary Agency.
He has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He also performs on many stages in Kansas City, where he lives with his wife Christy and their cats.
