It walks you through the process of deploying a sample application and all the necessary infrastructure for running and monitoring it. The guide also includes a discussion of pricing so you can compare the cost of cloud computing to that of managing your own infrastructure.
Although this book is putatively about setting up a free tier AWS EC2 site, it's an excellent guide to standing up a dynamic, scalable, cost effective set of services.

Presented in a format that encourages you to work along the tutorial, but I read it on the bus.
I still think I got a lot out of the book. The subject is very Three Letter Acronym intensive, but this didn't feel weighed down with them.
I would probably look out a newer version if I won going to use AWS for real, just because I assume the subject will have moved on.
