Ughh, I'm still a little hung over from this trilogy! I picked up the first book and was so absorbed by it that two days later I had finished all three and was left with too many emotions that hadn't had enough time to escape! Result: Dance party in my room and a review. Enjoy!
I really liked these books as a whole. They had a fast enough pace that they kept my attention really well and made it very easy not to get distracted. Hence my three days of being a hermit...
The first book, the Selection, was just a fun and easy read that left me intrigued. It still had it's faults in that it was a bit petty, but overall I liked it.
The second however, was much less enjoyable. It was frustrating how much indecision there was and lack of loyalty on America's part that it led me to develop a mild disliking of her, making it an uncomfortable read ot times. I will give it credit, though, in that it still managed to hold my attention, even if it was only because I was desperate for America to straighten up and settle down.
The third in the trilogy was able to redeemed itself in that America was more desicive and I was again rooting for her. It was less predictable than the first two were, and though it still had its painful moments, it was a better brand of pain...
I would recommend the Selection series if you're into chick flicks and love triangles and that sort of thing. If you're not, thanks for your time anyway!
A very quick read but not much substance. It's a combination of a very toned-down Hunger Games and The Bachelor. Fun to read in between my other books. Third book is just out and called "The One."
The Selection book is a must read. You will fall in love with Prince Maxon from the moment you read about him and swoon with the rest of the country. America holds her own in this book as well. She is feisty and endearing. She only enters the selection after getting into a fight with her boyfriend. She is then chosen. From the first encounter of her and Prince Maxon meeting you will be glued and fly throught he pages. This is a must read and I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
The Elite was not my favorite of The Selection series books. I felt like it was an emotional roller coaster at times but not in a good way. It did have it's redeeming moments and that is why I am giving it 4 stars but I wanted it to go someplace it did not. I also did not like the main focus on the holidays it seemed kind of trivial to be such a huge part. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.
I absolutely loveddd The Selection series. It's one of my all time favorite books ever. My friends Julianne and Mattie introduced me to the book, raving about how great it was. I didn't know how well I liked it, but I decided to give it a try. The moment I began reading, I fell in love instantly. It's dystopian fiction which I absolutely love. It is hilarious, yet just the right amount if sadness. There is much romance and takes a bit to Twilight when two men the mane character America both likes, are fighting for her. It differs because it is much better than Twilight and doesn't have the whole vampire, werewolf affect. It's more of a prince, peasant kind of feel. I couldn't believe how laugh-out-loud funny this book was, but yet it was sad as well. I read the series in three days, one for each book. I stayed up until 12:30 AM finishing it on a school night! Then until 2 AM thinking about it! I would've finished it evens loner but I had to wait to get each book and every time I finished one I'd be like, "Crap I should've bought the next one." It was amazing and it's great if you love a fighter and some romance. This is by far one of the absolute best books I have ever read and be prepared for a page-turner that will keep you up at night. Maxon of Aspen? I've been rooting for Maxon the while time, although I won't give away who America ends up with :) This book has definitely lasted, long after I've put it down. I continue to pick it up often and read certain sections. I've bookmarked my favorite parts, from the times it makes me laugh, to the times it makes me cry, to the times it makes me smile, to the times it makes me shout, and even to the end, when I was sobbing, bawling my eyes out. And it's hard to believe a piece of paper and print can do that to a person, but it can. It is much more than that.
If you want to read something different than other YA books, this is a trilogy I would recommend !
There are a lot of people who say that the main character, America, is not so good as other main characters, but I really liked her and I also liked the idea of the 'selection' . The characters were good and there was a lot of character development in the final book, The One! What I liked the most of these books where the rebel attacks, what was also the only 'action' in the books, but also the setting and... the covers of the books, they are just fab ! But what didn't work for me was the love triangle.
My favourite book of this trilogy was The One, it was just a beautiful conclusion to this trilogy and I read it in only 1 day ! So if you want to read an entertaining book, just read The Selection !
I really enjoyed these series, I read all three of them in under a week. I loved the character development between all the characters, except Aspin, he was dull and an obstacle, same with the King, I thought he was a mean bully of a nuisance! Sometimes America got on my nerves but she's better than some other female heriones I have read about it. I overall really enjoyed this series!
The magical story of America, her flaws, her intense passion for others, her need for food, and for her being able to live a life, for a while, that she will never be able to live again. She has a fighting spirit and she makes a deal with the prince who is doing the selecting the first night she arrives at the palace. Her heart still belongs to another so she suggests that she help the prince as much as she can so that he makes the right selection for his princess who will soon be the queen. He has to deal with a difficult father, Rebels, and the 34 women who come to his home He wants to protect the women and spoil them. He must make a decision at some point as to who he wants and who his father will except. His father is overbearing and causes America problems whenever he can. In post WWIV the world is new and has changed from what we know today. There is a caste system in place and America is one of the lowest at a 5. Their adventures will keep you turning pages well into the night. This is every bit as good as Divergent and I hope they make a movie about these books as well.
Read the first three in less than 48 hrs. I was hooked from Chapter 1. Best way to describe the books is they are a mix of Hunger Games meets The Bachelor. The books keep up a quick pace and most definitely keep you guessing on character development, even though you know the ending. It’s predictable, but well written and there are a few curve balls thrown in.
I was glued to this book from the start. Although it was interesting, there were moments where I just wanted to get into the story and knock some sense into America. She's made a lot of wrong choices but still somehow seems like a very relatable character. Overall its a good read...
This book is full of romance, hope, drama and love. The genre is Science- Fiction but I would say its romance, science-fiction, action and inspiration. definitely a must-read for young adult girls
I started reading this book . and i couln'd stop reading them . they're just kinda cute . you shoyuld read them i love the INE whit every part of my heart
