In this book you will find some of the greatest and most useful formulas that the fields of physics, mathematics and economics have brought forth. Each formula is explained gently and in great detail, including a discussion of all the quanitites involved and examples that will make clear how and where to apply it. On top of that, there are plenty of illustrations that support the explanations and make the reading experience even more vivid.
The book covers a wide range of diverse topics: acoustics, explosions, hurricanes, pipe flow, car traffic, gravity, satellites, roller coasters, flight, conservation laws, trigonometry, equations, inflation, loans, and many more. From the author of "Statistical Snacks" and "Business Math Basics - Practical and Simple".
The use of lots of interesting formulas explained. Ever wonder what the relationship between the angle of a sonic boom cone and the velocity of a jet is...it's in here.
Mildly amusing. It takes up a few empirical relations and then works out a few examples which gives a lay reader some sense of a few wow moments. And then you would forget them. A sort of intellectual entertainment for those who like to excercise their grey cells occasionally. There aren't any great formula explained. Read only for very light intellectual entertainment.
(browsed) great though slim physics review at the first-year level by an enthusiastic teacher relying on intuitive methods and real-life examples. much of the content can be found and learned from the internet nowadays though.
With the same structure, author provided readers with highly clarified handful of useful yet very relevant formulas in life. A high school student can be very much aware of these formulas, but only after a few years working, they will forget most of it. So this book is a great refresher for us all.
Not a bad collection of schoolboy formulas. But I would take issue with the formula for queues. Surely if a doctor can deal with 6 patients in an hour and only 5 turn up the average waiting time is certainly not 50inutes. Unless I have misunderstood the question or the doctor is asleep.
This is a book you can take in small bites but contains many interesting concepts and facts. If you want to catch up on some interesting concepts and formulas or review for school this is a convenient source.
Amazing book! Many formulas with explanation of the origin, curiosity and nice examples are given. The English sometimes slips a little bit, but technically it is impeccable. I really enjoyed it; I could read quick chapters (formulas) in just a little time, making it a very dynamic book, where chapters are independent of each other, not being necessary to read all at once.
